Another opportunity to practice the skills you have been acquiring to notice the methods being applied to shape opinions and emotions about an event. Alexei Navalny has died from a blood clot while serving his sentence in a Russian penal colony.

The anti-vaxer site I check occasionally infers the clot was an adverse reaction to the two COVID vaccine he received in Germany. Most of the MSM (main street media) stories lay the blame on Putin. No details, just blame.

Reuters' article, Navalny's death leaves despair and apathy in Moscow, and accompanying photos implying mass mourning in Russia is a piece of propaganda art. The bio of the author shows a depth of experience.

Afghan-like retreat debacle looms in Pacific islands Asia Times Feb 13, 2024

American control of the Central Pacific depends on treaties – known as Compacts of Free Association (COFA) – with three nations: Palau, Federated States of Micronesia and Republic of the Marshall Islands.
...
The COFAs give the United States the legal authority to operate freely and to keep other nations’ militaries out. In other words, military access and control.

As part of the agreements, the three nations receive American financial and other support including their citizens’ right to reside and work in America. And one should never forget that COFA state citizens serve in the US military at higher per-capita rates than residents of almost all US states.

The president of each COFA nation is said to have a blank check from China on the desk. The checks haven’t been cashed – such is their deep attachment to the United States. But their patience is not unlimited,

Rare Human Case of Bubonic Plague in Oregon Confirmed by Authorities
Science Alert Feb 12, 2024

The bubonic plague might sound like an affliction of the past, but the bacterium behind the disease is still out there, causing thousands of human infections worldwide, year after year, although cases in the US are relatively rare.

The state of Oregon just confirmed its first case in eight years, and officials say it probably came from a domestic cat, which also showed symptoms.

US Seeks Funds for New Bioweapons Projects From Clinton, Soros, Rockefeller Foundations: Russian MoD Sputnik International Jan 15, 2024

Russia's Radiological, Chemical and Biological Defense (RCBD) Troops began extensive reporting on Pentagon funding for military-related biological research in Eastern Europe and around the world in early 2022, with much of their findings based on the tens of thousands of documents seized over the course of the special military operation in Ukraine.

The United States government is actively searching for new sources of funding for military biological research from leading American 'philanthropic' institutions, including the Clinton, Soros, Rockefeller and Biden Foundations, RCBD Troops chief Igor Kirillov has announced.

Washington's goals are multifold, Kirillov said, and include the study of the causative agents of "particularly dangerous infections in regions of the world that are strategically important for the United States," and achieving "superiority" in biomanufacturing, including by using biological espionage against potential geopolitical adversaries.

As before, the RCBD Troops chief said, US military-biological research abroad in 2023 was designed to take advantage of gaps in international legislation, allowing scientists to engage in highly risky research abroad which they would be prohibited from doing at home.

Russia and China unite over US bioweapons threat Russia Times Feb 1, 2024

The Russian and Chinese governments have held an inter-agency meeting in Beijing to share their assessments of biological security concerns, and address the threats posed by bioweapons – particularly those allegedly being developed by the US military.

Moscow and Beijing agreed to work together in seeking to strengthen the Biological and Toxic Weapons Convention (BTWC), a treaty signed by 109 nations in 1972 to block the development of these unconventional armaments, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Thursday in a statement.
...
Russia, China, and 14 other nations issued a joint statement in December calling for strengthening the UN’s policing of biological and chemical weapons.

The US and its NATO allies vetoed a UN resolution last year calling for an investigation of Washington’s biolabs in Ukraine. Some “unfinished” bioweapons projects were moved to Africa amid the conflict in Ukraine, the Russian Defense Ministry said in November.

Big Pharma's Tested 'Secret Bioweapon Program to Target Slavic DNA’ in Mariupol – Expert Sputnik International February 13, 2024

Russia’s release of documents exposing major pharmaceutical companies in America and beyond "confirms not only the existence of a secret bioweapon program targeting Slavic-DNA, but explains why the West in general has become so pathologically obsessed with trying to keep Ukraine in the NATO-EU-US orbit of influence," Scott Bennett, a former US Army psychological warfare officer and US state department counterterrorism analyst, told Sputnik.
"The large network of pharmaceutical and medical research and development companies involved show a constellation of connecting points that lead back into the heart of the City of London, the United States, and their secret intelligence proxies, mercenaries, and slaves willing to sell out their own country, Ukraine, for ‘30 pieces of silver,’ with the face of America on the coin," Bennett pointed out.

________

Biological Warfare in Action by Larry Romanoff
Chapter 9 – Italy’s Olive Trees

On February 27, 2015, the London Telegraph ran an article by Nick Squires [1] detailing the danger to olive trees in Italy and potentially all of Europe, caused by a deadly bacterium brought to Italy from the US, and that was destroying centuries-old olive trees. He wrote that the disease was first detected in Italy in the fall of 2013 and had already affected almost a quarter of a million hectares of olive groves. Many trees that were hundreds of years old, and some 1,000 years old, would all have to be cut down to prevent further contamination. The cause appears to be a bacterium named Xylella fastidiosa, which attacks olive and citrus trees, and some grape vines, causing them to become desiccated and preventing the formation of fruit.

The BBC covered the story with comments that this disease could cost billions; [2] Bloomberg advised travelers to “see Italy’s olive trees while you can”; [3] and Scientific American is asking if Italy’s olive trees really need to be burned to the ground. [4]
...
So why would ‘scientists’ import a pathogen from the US that apparently (and suddenly) is found attacking Italian trees, and why are Italian authorities refusing to do a genetic comparison of the Italian variety with the American one? And why are Italian authorities apparently determined to destroy millions of Italian olive trees without even performing such a basic investigation? Given the lack of evidence of the real cause of this agricultural disease and the proven existence of what Colorni called “effective alternative policies”, the government’s claims and actions appear both bizarre and suspicious. You cannot deny this is beginning to stink, because the facts as presented simply do not correlate and therefore much of the official story cannot possibly be true.

The Italian police appear to agree, and have apparently begun aggressively confiscating files and computer hard drives from the national Ministry of Agriculture and various other so-called ‘institutions’ involved in this fiasco, and regional authorities have placed a freeze on the cutting down of trees while their investigation continues. Oddly, bizarrely, and quite suspiciously, the Italian National Minister of Agriculture, the man who appears desperate to cut down all of Italy’s olive trees, has vowed to file court appeals against these delays.

Axis of Resistance: from Donbass to Gaza The Cradle Feb 16, 2024

Just as the rich black soil of Novorossiya is where the “rules-based international order” came to die; the Gaza Strip in West Asia – an ancestral land, Palestine – may ultimately be the site where Zionism will perish. Both the rules-based order and Zionism, after all, are essential constructs of the western unipolar world and key to advancing its global economic and military interests.

Today’s incandescent geopolitical fault lines are already configured: the collective west versus Islam, the collective west versus Russia, and soon a substantial part of the west, even reluctantly, versus China.

Yet a serious counterpunch is at play.

Thank you for todays series of articles. Am left with (yet another) impression of
the deviousness of so called leaders in the west..

- illegal bio weapons programs funded by DOD off-shored
- another economic battle against German automakers
- unipolar hegemony attempts at destroying multilateralism
- domestic law fare being used to control elections
- the depth of propaganda being used to manipulate society
- and 2 proxy wars funded by the Pentagon / congress killing many

This is not a pretty picture. Reflects poorly on the US. Makes me want
to duck my head into hopeful fiction.

A very chilly trade day this AM, but we're headed to the 70's later this week.

I've enjoyed your stint putting together the Sat. OT. Many thanks! You will be missed.

Hope all is well around the homestead. We've been enjoying the winter with its open forests and clear views. We cleaned an old logging trace this week that gives us another nice walk.

Take care, and thanks again!

Hello, everyone! This is a kind of show biz expression in South Korea. I think of it fondly, as the introduction by the MC of the oldies show Gayo Mudae, (popular song stage) on one of the Korean broadcasting stations. Sometime in the early nineties, we hooked up a satellite tv connection in the hope of watching South Korean programming. It was frustrating for me, the dialogue was too fast for me to understand, but I tried to read the song lyrics during the performances.

The phrase has a ring to it, like, gentleman, start your engines! The USAF performance team has been flying around for the last three days. They've got bad weather this weekend. I went to internet to confirm the 500 race time, and got an article saying no one would daunted by the bad weather, even it there were delays. I couldn't even see the jets as they passed by, the ceiling is low and it had already started raining. They are noisy as hell. I oughta know.

Well, SOE, looks like your potluck today is a great one, that I didn't expect today. A pleasant surprise, guess I didn't follow the discussion closely enough earlier.

I amazed at how much dystopian news there is everyday. So I'll make my limited contribution. Brian has posted a brilliant (I think) discussion on a recently released government report DOD's National Defense Industrial Strategy (NDIS)-

Fatal Flaws Undermine America’s Defense Industrial Base

In fact, the majority of the problems identified by the report involved private industry and its unwillingness to meet national security requirements because they were not profitable.

For example, the report attempts to explain why many companies across the US DIB lack advanced manufacturing capabilities, claiming:

Many elements of the traditional DIB have yet to adopt advanced manufacturing technologies, as they struggle to develop business cases for needed capital investment.

In other words, while adopting advanced manufacturing technologies would fulfill the purpose of the US Department of Defense, it is not profitable for private industry to do so.

Despite virtually all the problems the report identifies stemming from private industry’s disproportionate influence over the US DIB, the report never identifies private industry itself as a problem.

Surprised the google coughed up his link to the above. I'm no management expert, but somehow just in time and "surge" don't go together.

I'll come back later. Night Flower just came up on viki.com. Need to lighten up for an hour with a diversion.

@snoopydawg The saddest part is that FISA warrents are a joke and a fraud in the first place. They don't need to meet the specificity standards of regular warrants as to stating what they're gonna look for and where, nor do they meet anything vaguely resembling probable cause standards. Some feeb simply has to allege that he thinks that the requested warrant somehow relates to an in-process investigation.

Plus it’s long been known that the 5 eyes countries spy on Americans and gives the information to our intelligence agencies.

Plus it’s not a bad thing to lie to the court to get permission to spy on the opposition party like Clinesmith did and after being found guilty of it he just got probation.

The information that Taibbi is writing about has been known for years, but they are exposing more of Obama’s role in trying to overthrow Trump. Republicans have had this information too, but they aren’t too concerned about exposing it. Kinda like the bogus Benghazi hearings.

So somebody alleges that a component of an automobile was made by "slave labor" and we get to impound the auto. Indefinitely, I assume, because I'm not sure how somebody could ever prove that a specific part in a specific car wasn't made by "slave labor", nice scam. Years ago there was a dust-up at the WTO over "slave labor" and at that time, the WTO position was that it wasn't on them to do anything about such allegations, but some arm of the UN, in which case, the mfrs. will have a case against the US in the WTO unless things have changed.

Recommend this NK News podcast:

Has Kim Jong Un really made a strategic decision to go to war? – Ep. 327

This week, Carlin and Hecker join the NK News podcast to explain exactly why they see Pyongyang’s recent war rhetoric as more than just empty bluster. They discuss why the DPRK has shifted away from seeking to normalize ties with the U.S., their views on what exactly Kim Jong Un is planning and how they’ve handled the overwhelming response to their article.

These are the top two American NK analysts. What Dr. Hecker is saying is that the US humiliated Kim at Hanoi, after about 30 years of on and off nuclear/ normalization negotiations; that the US turned away from a great opportunity, and now NK has determined, that the US is not serious about negotiations, can't hold to an agreement, and therefore, NK is no longer interested in a negotiation track with the US.

I think Hecker is more interested in some kind of diplomatic overture, rather than the dangerous miscalculation and neglect demonstrated in this area and the US/South Korean reliance solely on "deterrence." At a minimum, the parties need to refrain from provocations. I'd skip Chad who does the followup after Carlin and Hecker are done.

The three day war has turned into a years long meat grinder. Of course all life has intrinsic value, Russian as well as Ukrainian. So far it seems the government of Russia is ready to sacrifice a huge number of soldiers, for what I don't know.

Often they attack with no artillery, no air, no mortars, no drones, nothing. Some are equipped with bolt action Mosin Nagants.

For the widows and orphans, nothing. Terrible.

Russia attacked one of the poorest countries in the world and how many years has it been? They just spent thousands of men to take a city that is rubble.

Casualties are estimated to be 300,000 of which maybe 20% are KIA. Russian casualties.

Ukraine’s new army chief signals new momentum, but huge problems stand in the way

Kyiv officials are “rethinking” their war strategy “with a new emphasis on improved technology and updated command and control,” said James Nixey, an analyst at London’s Chatham House think tank.

One sign of that may be the claimed recent sinking of a Russian warship in the Black Sea by a new generation of Ukrainian naval drones.

“It’s not going to be easy” for Syrskyi, said Marina Miron, a researcher at the War Studies Department of King’s College London. “There are a lot of problems” for Ukraine at the moment.

She cited a lack of ammunition, uncertainty about new weapons from Ukraine’s Western allies, a manpower shortage, people’s reluctance to be drafted, the tiredness of troops getting no respite from the front lines, and the question of how Zaluzhnyi’s departure might affect morale.

@ban nock

Often they attack with no artillery, no air, no mortars, no drones, nothing. Some are equipped with bolt action Mosin Nagants.

Didn’t you hear? Russians are attacking Ukrainians with shovels. And stealing washing machines to get chips from them to make weapons because Russia is such a backward country.

Good grief if you believe the crap you spew I suggest that your sources are lying to you. BTW which country has to get a ride to the space station because they no longer make ships that don’t blow up. Yep that taxi service is Russia.

Ukraine just exited a major city that had the most defenses with their tails between their legs and left their wounded behind.

Death of Aleksei Navalny: the Brits did it! Gilbert Doctorow Feb 16, 2024

In short, what happened in the West this afternoon was a new campaign to vilify Vladimir Putin on the world stage based on a death which was, if I may quote former British PM Theresa May, ‘highly likely’ to have been perpetrated by British Intelligence for this very purpose.
...
A fair number of the poisonings and other assorted deaths of people who could be said were ‘inconvenient’ to the Kremlin happened in the U.K., after all. That is where Boris Berezovsky, the exiled oligarch who opposed Putin tooth and nail, was ‘suicided’ and it occurred in 2013 at his London estate when it was widely rumored he was looking for forgiveness for his treachery and was preparing to return to Mother Russia with a trove of documents. Earlier still, the U.K. is where the Berezovsky employee Alexander Litvinenko met his death in 2006 from polonium poisoning in a very British cuppa tea.

I lost his homepage and have had trouble finding it again.

Just the fact that every news site in the world was repeating the same talking points should have given even the most brainwashed people a clue that this was just one more psyops run on we the people, but alas I’m thinking their minds are too far gone for the truth to sink in. I wish I could figure out why shitlibs are so invested in Nalvany and are crying over his death, but alas again….They are blaming republicans for his death for not sending more weapons to Ukraine. Try to figure out the link between the 2 even after they have approved other billion dollar packages. Nalvany was in prison then so why don’t they count?

Israel’s war on Gaza live: US vows to veto new UNSC truce resolution.

The United States is pledging to veto a new UN Security Council resolution put forth by Algeria that demands an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu calls Hamas’s demands for a ceasefire and prisoner release “delusional” after the group blamed Israel for a lack of progress in achieving a ceasefire deal.
In Gaza, at least 10 Palestinians were killed overnight after Israeli forces launched attacks on Deir el-Balah and farmland on the edges of Rafah, according to the Wafa news agency.

The Health Ministry in Gaza also says Israeli forces have arrested a “large number” of workers at the Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis.
Israel’s attacks on Gaza have killed at least 28,858 Palestinians and wounded 68,667 since October 7. The death toll in Israel from the October 7 Hamas-led attacks stands at 1,139.

soe, for all the Saturday OT's. Much appreciated the variety of topics you posted from health care to cooking and a lot of news from Asia that I would not have otherwise sought out. You figuratively helped to open more doors and windows to let the light shine in. Always a good thing to my mind.
