My son sees so many and rarely do I see pix. He gets to go backside (mixing vernaculars) for AA as an auditor. I think he likes going out in one of the vehicles allowed on tarmacs.

I believe this is a sunrise from the few landmarks I recognize (i.e. the control tower at LAX) & the fact that I`m too familiar with the SoCal sunsets to not know the difference.

Beautiful morning colors & composition.
May I ask where you live, if this was taken from your home?

I am 150 miles inland on a freshwater lake (Cayuga, so a large lake) and am used to gulls, but not at my house-in-the-woods. Have hawks in the woods, and crows, many crows. They will alert to animals below, I have seen foxes due to crow alarms.

You must feel really satisfied to have achieved it. Now all you have to do, is remember it for the next time : ).

And thanks for the explication, as well as the beautifully personal photo. Part of my enjoyment of photography is the opportunity to visit other places.

Maybe last download and re-scan and sign off on my Canadian property. So much loss since then, husband to death was a major hit. I miss the water. Miss never getting a kayak, miss never learning to sail when we got a Laser for our son. Miss the boat roams, requiring nav charts through the Thousand Islands. Miss the waterfowl, miss the snapping turtles digging nest holes in my lawn. Remember learning that waxing moon points face right, waning points left. And a green light with 2 sec flash 2 miles away. My name is not Daisy. I learned more than she did.

I had just got a digital camera and went to Patrick's point in eureka ca and went camping there for 2 weeks. My spot was right by the cliff overlooking that view.
I used to have to take a whole roll of film to get one decent picture. Remember those days?
I went nuts and took over 1,000 pictures.
I have the most incredible pictures from my walk tonight. I walk at the cemetery by my house and just as I got there the moon was coming up over the mountains. Bare trees, tombstones, mountains and the full moon.
But I only had my phone camera and I can't get the pictures off of it.
I'll take my SLR digital tomorrow and hopefully I can reproduce them and post them next week.

As I was loading this picture I couldn't stop thinking of the time Richard Feynman was teaching in Rio de Janeiro. In an optics class he was explaining some details of photons interacting with matter. He noted how the students were very diligent but did not seem to really get the essence of the topic. So, he stopped lecturing and instructed the students to turn around, look out the window, and watch the ocean for a time. Physics is not learned by studying what someone has written in a book. Physics is learned by immersing yourself in the world.

If this had been a clear day, I would have rotated the linear polarizer (that always covers my camera's lens) to suppress light scattered by the clear sky. This would have enhanced contrast making the sky appear dark blue and the greens and tans of Upper Table Rock would have "popped". That would have been awesome, but because of the humidity throughout the volume of air this sort of "trick" could not work.

Science is fun · · · from a certain point of view.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled programing.

and we stopped at a companion's aunt's house for I dunno and then a crab place. I could not eat the crab. The mallets and all... What a loss for me. I have had live lobsters in my fridge and did the dunk (before children) but for some reason, perhaps the mallets or the already 6 hour drive, more to go, it just did not work that bright day. Some time in the 1970's.

most marylanders use a knife rather than the mallet. the mallet can only really be useful on the claws and is not needed at all for getting at any of the best meat.

Mrs. R took this one when we were sailing south from the Marshall Islands to Vanuatu in 2012. Worse passage we've ever had! This was just the beginning of what turned out to be 1000 miles and 10 days of pure, unadulterated hell!

Took a full on knockdown(sails in the water) when we unexpectedly hit with a gust of wind well in excess of 50kt and spent 10 days watching lightning hit the water all around the boat and absolute torrential rains. How we didn't get hit by lightning still amazes us. We still haven't fully recovered from that trip. We still twitch when we see lightning and hear thunder.
