Good evening, C99ers. Hope all is going well for you wherever you are on this beautiful cosmic rock.

Appreciating and Supporting Caucus99percent

We came here following joe shikspak and JtC from the Evening Blues. We were slower than others to come over to C99 from DK but now that we are here, we appreciate the place more and more every day.

We are old peacenik enviros and we especially appreciate what we read on the Evening Blues and in gjohnsit's diaries . All in one place, here. We are on email lists for quite a number of peace and environmental orgs, like them all on FB and get a good news buzz there as a consequence but C99 is where we go first for news these days.

and I both have had a 'life subscription' to TOP for quite some time. Maybe you do, too? Can't get that deal here at C99 so have been giving a little here and there as the mood strikes. Or when DallasDoc or someone else puts out a challenge.

Tonight we decided to go big and do a monthly subscription. Got to thinking, why not give at least as much we give to our favorite activist organization WildEarth Guardians and to (sigh) frigging Hulu. Heh.

Maybe do our part to help JtC plan and have some sense that this thing is going to keep on going.

Recurring Donation

How did this come about?

We were enjoying a big glass of box wine over jakkalbessie's fine homemade pizza this evening while we were each on our laptops reading gjohnsit's latest latest essays at C99 over dinner.

We talked it over how much the Evening Blues contributes toward our being informed and how comments by other C99ers / other essays here often lead us to find out things that we really are interested in.

You probably have your fav essayists as well, or other reasons for coming here and for wanting to see this road go on forever and the party never end ?

We decided to go for it tonight and I swear I just clicked the Donate Button and it gave me chance to make recurring payment.

But after deciding to write this I went back just now and tried to recreate that
Went to the Donate Info page and could not find how to do a recurring monthly. (Note to self. Donations are best considered without wine. )

So I went back and clicked the Donate button and ended up donating another one time $10 lol.

Ahem.

So then I went to the Donation Info hotlink AGAIN and belatedly noticed the form with the amounts one can choose for a recurring payment was quite a below the text . (I must have my page expanded for easier reading because I missed it when I checked when I went back before writing this and got all wtf.)

Turns out that we had chosen an amount in the form on the Donation Info page and then went PayPal to pay.

The Donation Info link has info on all the payment options, ie Recurring Payments, US Mail, Etc.

So anyway, maybe someone else would like to make a recurring payment, give JtC a vote of confidence for doing such an awesome bloody job ????? Hope so.

I don't know how you got the subscription link to display, I tried it but don't see it.

I am going to set up a separate subscription link tomorrow though. There will be two buttons, the "Donation" button that we have now for one-time donations, and a "Subscription" button for monthly recurring contributions.

I never seem to be able to do a monthly, so

I add it up and do a one time donation. I also donate some time to spreading the word about c99. I do appreciate all the time and effort JtC and Joe put into making us comfortable so it is always nice to give in some way; write an essay or a comment and remember to click to say thank you.

Very Old School.
I do not subscribe to any newspapers. I no longer pay for cable news.
I spend some of that money on this site instead, and encourage everyone to give whatever they can spare, whenever they can spare it.

@on the cusp I've also dumped every news subscription except the Bangor Daily News, which I just love and I've never even lived in Maine! Probably because there are so many articles about small farmers, small entrepreneurs, conservationists, people connected with the land and their community. And I love their coverage of Maine's bat shit crazy governor which is so, hum looking for the word, not restrained, more coldly factual and therefore utterly damning. I highly recommend the BDN for times when current events Washington style are utterly depressing.
In that regard, the Evening Blues have had me laughing and singing along on the most dismal days. Love caucus 99% and all the family of contributors. Which is why I contribute monthly, but would welcome a subscription option since I get busy!

I make contributions to numerous charities. Whales, puppies, Native Americans, the Oceans, the Forests, etc...
I could go on.
They send me swag. Cards. Like, BEAUTIFUL cards. Puppies/kittens/colts...
I go through them monthly, pick out something I think will make JtC go, "aw", and send my check in that card.
It is a thing. Lab puppies that will one day lead the blind, as an example.
I can't think of another person I would rather see smile than JtC.

I'm still doing regular mail as I won't do Paypal.
I also encourage people to write essays. They don't have to be indepth essays, they can just be a short bit about a news item or issue to start a conversation.
Very few places we can go where it's all member content of this type. I don't know any other place in fact. Some have been pointed out to me, like JPR, but they don't seem as open, formats not as good. It's pretty wide open here which speaks to the type of people and to JtR, joe and the moderators.
I greatly appreciate a place we can "let it all hang out" when I write and comment.

Don't forget you can use POP Money, which is often a free

service offered by your bank. It allows you to set up recurring withdrawals and deposit directly to JtC with his permissions set up when you send him an email requesting it.

I get a little notice each month saying he's getting my deposit to his bank, and the withdrawal from mine. As far as I know, it's working quite well.

If all of us give a little each month, it will mean a lot to keeping JtC's family afloat and the machinery of this site going well.

Monthly for me.

I had a credit card issue and thought it had stopped but the bank did manage to move it over to the new card number. They don't do much right but that worked out well for me!
