a supposed Dem president would accept many of these "nominees" for his cabinet? Was a gun put to his head? His family threatened? Short of that, how does a Dem president think these "players" are going to help bring Hope and Change, move his agenda forward? Or, did his campaign rhetoric even matter?
Eight years tossed down the crapper which put us in the hole we're in. Thanks, Obama.

Even The New York Times dipped its dainty toe into the waters at one point - not that they found the temperature to their liking to actually dive in. I'm sure that financial pressures were applied to ensure that the story didn't grow legs, so the NYT dropped it. No other major media source would pick it up after that.

But that doesn't mean the story was ignored. A quick search revealed the following articles. I include dates to show that this coverage was going on all through Obama's administration.

Policies that are extraordinarily favorable to the financial elite that were put in place over the past month by the Obama administration have fed a surge in share values on Wall Street. These include the scheme to use hundreds of billions of dollars in public funds to pay hedge funds to buy up the banks’ toxic assets at inflated prices, the Auto Task Force’s rejection of the recovery plans of Chrysler and General Motors and its demand for even more brutal layoffs, wage cuts and attacks on workers’ health benefits and pensions, and the decision by the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) to weaken “mark-to-market” accounting rules and permit banks to inflate the value of their toxic assets.

At the same time, Obama has campaigned against restrictions on bonuses paid to executives at insurance giant American International Group (AIG) and other bailed-out firms, and repeatedly assured Wall Street that he will slash social spending, including Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security.

The new financial disclosures reveal that top Obama advisors directly involved in setting these policies have received millions from Wall Street firms, including those that have received huge taxpayer bailouts.

If one tallies up the members of President Obama’s cabinet who played a role in crashing a bank before coming to help him govern the country or worked for a major law firm serving Wall Street before being hand-picked by the President to head up the bodies charged with investigating Wall Street, the Executive Branch begins to feel a lot like Wall Street West. The cabinet list [email from from Citibank's Froman to Podesta] ended up being almost entirely on the money. It correctly identified Eric Holder for the Justice Department, Janet Napolitano for Homeland Security, Robert Gates for Defense, Rahm Emanuel for chief of staff, Peter Orszag for the Office of Management and Budget, Arne Duncan for Education, Eric Shinseki for Veterans Affairs, Kathleen Sebelius for Health and Human Services, Melody Barnes for the Domestic Policy Council, and more. For the Treasury, three possibilities were on the list: Robert Rubin, Larry Summers, and Timothy Geithner.

This was October 6. The election was November 4. And yet Froman, an executive at Citigroup, which would ultimately become the recipient of the largest bailout from the federal government during the financial crisis, had mapped out virtually the entire Obama cabinet, a month before votes were counted. And according to the Froman/Podesta emails, lists were floating around even before that.

Many already suspected that Froman, a longtime Obama consigliere, did the key economic policy hiring while part of the transition team. We didn’t know he had so much influence that he could lock in key staff that early, without fanfare, while everyone was busy trying to get Obama elected. The WikiLeaks emails show even earlier planning; by September the transition was getting pre-clearance to assist nominees with financial disclosure forms.

Then-presidential candidate Obama played a critical political role in shepherding the massively unpopular bank bailout through Congress. [The presidency was thus his reward for services rendered - neoconned] The September financial crash convinced decisive sections of the US corporate-financial elite that the Democratic candidate of “hope” and “change” would be better positioned to contain popular opposition to the bailout than his Republican rival, Senator John McCain of Arizona.

As president, Obama not only funneled trillions of dollars to the banks, he saw to it that not a single leading Wall Street executive faced prosecution for the orgy of speculation and swindling that led to the financial collapse and Great Recession, and he personally intervened to block legislation capping executive pay at bailed-out firms.

Former Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. chairwoman Sheila Bair said this about the influence large banks have over lawmakers:

“The capture, a lot of people say, is bipartisan. And when I say capture, I’m talking about cognitive capture. It’s not so much about corruption. It’s just listening too much to large financial institutions and the people who represent them and not enough to the people out on Main Street who want this fixed.”

Corporatism has conquered the United States of America. It is only going to get worse since one-half of the corporatist party controlled by the energy sector is collapsing under the candidacy of Donald Trump and won't be expected to successfully counter the major Clinton putsch for Wall St to lock in their dominance over energy. THIS is what this year's election and candidate choices was really about.

There will be no better time to get third parties off the sidelines and into the main event, for we all know that otherwise Hillary will stack the deck for the next election so that she isn't defeated for re-election. And if she were to succeed, what little voice we have will be silenced.

I appreciate good snark directed at my sacred cows - it's a sign of maturity. But this was just artless rage.

It reminds me of the caucuses - Hellery's suppporters were easy to spot by their drab plumage. The Berners were all in a wide range of tribal regalia, often homemade.

We must be getting under their skin.
