W00t! Gerrit's back. How the hell are we?
I hope you're all well and flourishing. It's Labour Day Weekend. My summer was busy and yours? I've been gardening in the friggin' heat of climate change. The plants have gone magoo: they love tropical Ontario. I have a salad forest, several beds of vegie jungle, runaway sunflowers, and oh the tomatoes. Be happy for me: Ive got ten new rosa rugosa plants - from seed. More hello below.
I see you good folks have kept up the fine traditions of yore: first post I read was Johnny threatening to shut the whole thing down for the weekend if some unnamed individuals didn't behave :=) My alibi is watertight: I just got here again...
You poor American dears are still having your never-ending elections. Canada's politics this summer has been filled with endless photos of our shirtless PM. Next he'll be on Magic Mike :=) Our general feeling is, long as he wears a shirt inside parliament, it's all good. Oh yes, and we voted to make the Loon our national bird. And we changed a sexist line in our national anthem: no more "in all thy sons command." Now the true patriot love is "in all of us command." Sensible change, eh? (It was a parting gift from MP Mauril Bélanger, just before his untimely death.)
I hope to write some Resilience posts again. See if the regulars wanna talk personal and local resilience again :=) I think I'll add some stuff on postmodern spirituality to the nuts and bolts stuff. And more on protest music. BTW, I learned a lot about eavestroughs this summer. (Apparently, they're not called "gutters" in Canada. Those only run underneath streets here.
Peace be with us (so that Johnny would keep the site up :=),

Hello and welcome back from your break
We are ready for the end of the world and need some survival skills. Hope you enjoyed.

Our entire problem is that we don't have a candidate as pretty
As your PM. If we did, we'd see a whole lot more solidarity. Sigh.
Welcome back and love the pics!!

LOL! Hi EC, I trust you're doing well :=)

Yes, doing well. Oh say, I should point you to my sale, since
you haven't been here. In case anyone's interested, today is the last day before prices increase! http://caucus99percent.com/content/pre-labor-day-sale-one-kind-cartoons

Hey Gerrit...
great to have you back, man, I was just thinking of you.
Looking forward to some new Resilience material, that is some of the best stuff c99p has to offer.
Peace...
Hi JtC, I hope you had a good summer, mate. Have the chickens
been restless the whole summer or just recently? Don't answer that :=)
Yes, the need for resilience has only increased, no surprise there. Folks in La learned the hard way that climate change is real and it will bombify your summer monsoon rains all to hell from here on out. (But what's the bet they'll all just rebuild in situ?)
The NYT just learned about it herself. They're running a coastal flooding article to welcome Post-TS Hermine: http://www.nytimes.com/2016/09/04/science/flooding-of-coast-caused-by-gl...
All politics will soon really be local.
Cheers,

Totally agree!
I think if we here at C99 want to change the world at our own levels, what we learn from Resilience is invaluable!
Welcome back Gerrit!

Hi DKM :=) Love that avatar. Summer was (is) great; just too
hot. Speaking of the end of the world, Simon Pegg's 2013 movie of the same name came on Netflix this summer and I nearly died laughing :=)
I hope you've had a good summer yourself!

Greetings and welcome back, Gerrit! Look forward to
you picking up where you left off on your excellent series. And, the timing is perfect, with the race finally coming close to an end.
(I'm probably the least well-informed member on 'things environmental,' but, I very much enjoyed learning from you.)
Also, I've wondered how your lovely pup is doing.
See ya!

Hello Mollie! It's real good to see you're still helping with
animal rescue. Thanks for asking after Lady the Wonder Dog. She's 3 years and flourishing.
I hope you're keeping well and the summer was good to you. We'll talk!

Thanks for pic, Gerrit--she's even prettier than I recalled! NT

On the shirtless PM Trudeau
I don't care what he wears or doesn't wear. He is so much following the footsteps of Obama. Likeable and attractive, full of promises that he will not keep. Lovely family too, like Obama. But check out his appointments. For our number one issue and therefore ministry. The ministry of Environment and Climate Change he appointed a friend trained in "human rights and social justice." She failed her first test at a press conference in Paris. It was embarrassing. She also spent $6,600 for photographs at the Paris summit. She is very good looking but this is our tax money.
As it is Canada's not ready to sign a Paris agreement yet. Instead, this fall, Trudeau is looking at carbon pricing which means carbon tax or cap n trade. Cap 'n' Trade is a boondoggle, it means industry will pay to pollute by buying offsets in undeveloped countries wether those countries really want that or not.
To thine own self be true.
Yes, but at least you can enjoy your distractions
All we get are "But Hillary gave speeches about women and children" distractions.
And Lord knows, no one wants to see Trump with his shirt off!!!!!!!!!

Welcome back Gerrit!
Underground eavestroughs? Buried at the ends?
Are you under construction with kids' house(s)?
Hey! my dear friends or soon-to-be's, JtC could use the donations to keep this site functioning for those of us who can still see the life preserver or flotsam in the water.
Hi riverlover! It's real good to see you again. I do hope that
the summer was good to you and that all is well with you and yours.
Hah-hah, sorry, didn't mean to be confusing. The spring I was all about getting big ole water totes for rain barrels. As I looked at the gutters - sorry, eavestroughs :=), I realized it all had to be replaced before I get to rain barrels. Now we have bigger eavestroughs (with perforated covers) working at better angles to help with the bigger rains we get these days. More to follow at Resilience soon :=)
Sadly, the girls split up and my daughter's earthship plans got a bit delayed. Life, eh? We'll get there.

Hi Gerrit
This summer it was hot in the deep south, and we're dry again. Tree leaves are drooping. The summer garden is about done, but lettuce, onions, greens are going in for fall. Still have to dig sweet taters, but we'll give 'em another couple of weeks or so.
All the best...

Nice to see you, looks like I need a lot of resilience,
so now I have a "go-to" guy for that.
I have really missed you . .
Today I finished starting about 150 seeds for fall/greenhouse/winter gardens. Climate change was a happy thing for some gardeners in Texas this year. The key is you have to plant way early and cover for frost several times.
