A video on the US healthcare trainwreck

I posted this video in CStS' open thread today, but decided to do a stand-alone in order to maybe get more exposure for it

Back in the dark ages when I was in High School, I joined the debate team. The topic for that year was whether or not we should adopt medicare. The need even then was clear, but, "socialized medicine", "commies" and all that. In the fullness of time, it was passed. AS half-century later, in part due to outrageously disproportionate cost increases (relative to the cost of living, wages, etc.) our medical care delivery was still problematic, arguably actually worse.

That spawned the ACA and now the ACA too has been passed. It sees not merely opposition but also misunderstanding on both the pro and anti side. Our medical care delivery is still problematic; in part because sitting between the care providers and the recipients is a huge industry wildly profiteering off of the fact that medical care isn't a luxury good.

Tuesday, at Boing-Boing I found a link to a video by John Green on the subject, "a beginner's guide to America's health care reform woes". In part it deals with why we cannot have an adult discussion of the issues and problems, and in part serves as a general refresher and possible source of new information. I recommend not only watching it, if only as a refresher, but also in order to be able to tout it to friends, family, neighbors, co-workers and, generally, all comers. Here it is:

Love John and Hank Green; hubby watches their videos all the time.

Any Medicare-for-all proposal better include dental, vision and mental health care as well. Plus Medicare still has copays and deductibles.
