Ukraine Update...

Since I left off the news in today's weekly watch I wanted to at least throw together a quick look at the proxy war between NATOstan and Russia. I hope you will add news sources you find reliable in the comments below as we all grapple with the end of empire.

If you want to see this war from the ground Patrick Lancaster has been doing excellent work.
First Look Look with First Western Journalist In Russia & DPR Controlled Azovstal Territory Mariupol (Special Report)

After many months of intense fighting in Mariupol fighting has come to almost a standstill as of the newest ceasefire declared yesterday. 05/06/22. A month ago we should you how there was intense street battles across the city but day by day as DPR and Russian forces have taken control of more and more parts of the city the fighting has winded down to just a very small pocket of the city with only some Ukraine forces being in part of the Azovstal plant underground with many civilians. Yesterday I spent the day on the Azovstal territory a only heard one explosion. At least 12 civilians were released by the Azov. In this report I show you part of the territory of the Azovstol and talked to the Russian and DPR soldiers who are fighting for the Azovstal.
There are talks among the locals that the Russian and DPR forces are planning a May 9th Victory day celebration in Mariupol. Kids play freely in the streets in most of the city. Weeks ago Russia declared victory in Mariupol. The city is being cleaned and already some areas starting to be rebuilt. Life is coming back to Mariupol. It seems it is just a matter of time before the Azovtstal plant and Mariupol no longer has any Ukrainian troops in it so there is no question that the major fighting is over. Now it is time for our team to move forward to some of the other breaking news areas in Donbass and beyond

The Mystery of the General
General Trevor Cadieu, a former top Canadian Army officer, has been in the Ukraine since April. There are rumours he was captured while trying to escape Azovstal. So far, there is no official confirmation from any source that he has been really captured. It’s odd that he would be in Azovstal anyway, if he’s so important. In any case, his backstory is interesting.

US Downplays Russia's Slow and "Uneven" Progress in Ukraine

I often find breakthrough news insightful as well.

As the United States escalates the war in Ukraine by sending another $33 billion, the possibility of nuclear war is coming into focus. Brian and Greg Mello discuss how the U.S. policy of waging proxy war on Russia via Ukraine raises the threat of a direct confrontation between the two nuclear-armed powers. What is the United States’ strategy in this nuclear game of chicken and what are the dangers of nuclear war?

Sometimes I find India's WION reliable like most of this clip. They tend to be anti-China so you have to keep that in mind.

The Ukraine-Russia war is being called a frozen conflict. For major arms manufacturers - it has opened a new line of revenue. Who is benefiting from the war in Ukraine? Palki Sharma tells you how the military-industrial complex is winning.

Scott Horton's podcast is often good.

Scott interviews Retired Colonel Douglas Macgregor about the war in Ukraine. Scott recently interviewed William Arkin who believes the Russians are actually losing this war. Macgregor has a very different take, and Scott gives him the opportunity to address Arkin’s argument. Macgregor shares his view of how the war has unfolded so far and how he expects it to evolve. He believes the Russians will pivot and attempt to occupy Eastern and Southern Ukraine. He thinks a battle for Odessa is looming and that the Russians will succeed in this endeavor. Scott then asks about reports about the Biden Administration’s new overt intentions to fund another color revolution in Belarus. Macgregor gives his take on how it may happen and then predicts that the Kremlin will respond with similar attempts in Latin America. Lastly, Scott and Macgregor talk about some of the institutional barriers facing those who want to change the foreign policy status quo in Washington.

U.S. Pushes Fake Stories To Goad Russia Into Escalation

The geniuses (not) at the National Security Council want to goad Russia into direct attacks on U.S. forces or interests. That would give the U.S. an excuse to further escalate the war in Ukraine into an open confrontation. It would also diverts the attention away from domestic problems. To achieve this the NSC has pushed a number of stories to the media which claim that alleged Ukrainian successes are based on U.S. intelligence.

They often have a Ukraine open thread.

I also appreciate Caitlin's work https://caitlinjohnstone.com/
Ukraine Alone Makes Biden The Worst US President In A Long Time

It’s just a simple fact that the Biden administration is actually hindering diplomatic efforts to negotiate an end to this war, and that it has refused to provide Ukraine with any kind of diplomatic negotiating power regarding the possible rollback of sanctions and other US measures to help secure peace. Washington’s top diplomats have consistently been conspicuously absent from any kind of dialogue with their counterparts in Moscow.

Statements from the administration in fact indicate that they expect this war to drag on for a long time, making it abundantly clear that a swift end to minimize the death and destruction is not just uninteresting but undesirable for the US empire. Ukrainian media report that UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson told Zelensky on behalf of NATO powers that “even if Ukraine is ready to sign some agreements on guarantees with Putin, they are not.”

So using sources like these my take is Russia is slowly destroying the Ukrainian army. Europe is committing economic suicide, and the US is doing everything to prolong the war. The irony is all the US escalation is impacting US citizens worse than the Russians. As expected we in the US aren't handling the end of US empire well. There literally is no telling how this all plays out, but if we avoid nuclear annihilation, the US will be a more degraded nation. Get your garden growing or establish some connections with your local producers. I'll close with a warning from Chris...
Will You Starve to Death This Year?

The economy does not produce energy. It uses energy. It depends on energy. No energy = no economy. It’s a very simple equation really, and one that is easily intuited. But somehow, we have unserious people making unserious decisions that will have entirely serious consequences and I’d like you to avoid them as much as possible.

Currently, diesel prices in the U.S. and Europe are signaling that serious shortages are now upon the western world. What does this mean? Well, it simply means that less diesel will be used than before. High prices and actual shortages tend to have that effect. Which products or services will be diminished as a result? That I cannot say. Nobody can because our economy is actually a complex system which means it is inherently unpredictable.

Millions of independent decisions made by producers, consumer and transportation companies will combine into some sort of new behaviors. All we can do is know they are coming and watch them as they emerge.

For example, who could have predicted the sequence of events that caused natural gas to skyrocket in price leading key fertilizer companies all over the world to limit their production, if not shut it down entirely? How was it possible that various governments merely shrugged at this outcome and let it happen without using some of their free-spending habits to shore up this critical, vital component of farm productivity?

It would all be comically bad theater if it weren’t so deadly serious.

This fertilizer shortage – again, expressed as skyrocketing prices because supply, demand and price all balance out – has now translated into critical spring farming applications not being carried out, which in turn will result in massive food shortages and starvation later this year.

How bad will it be? We don’t know yet, but the early estimates place the yield declines at anywhere from 10% (for rice) to as much as 40% for Peru’s output. To put this in context, note that each year supply and demand are very tightly balanced, and usually match each other with only a very low single-digit percentage variance. A 10% decline in yields would be devastating. A 40% decline would be apocalyptic. Anything in between and you can pick your own adjective.

Just as bad, and another piece of the puzzle few consider, is that while the weight of the harvest may only be down 10%, the decline in food quality may be as troublesome. Failing to fertilize spring wheat will result in a decline in its protein content leading to a much poorer food stuff.

Add it all up and what do we have? You need to plant a garden. Please. I’ve been saying this for a couple of years now, and I think the fact that global publications are all now mentioning food shortages should be sufficiently motivating to all. Please. Plant a garden. Even a few planter boxes on a balcony. You can "go in" with someone nearby or join a local Community-Supported Agriculture (CSA) group or strike a deal with a local farmer. You won’t regret it.

It’s quite urgent that you do one or several of these things as soon as you can.

These are interesting times and staying informed in these days of censorship and cancel culture make it even more difficult. That is one of the good things about the C99 community... staying informed and sharing resources. I hope you will add sources you find reliable in the comments below!

A great read by Jorge Vilches at the Saker https://thesaker.is/europes-mad-ban-on-russian-oil/

Cognitive scientists would concur in that the current performance of European leadership could be diagnosed as either myopic ignorance or — most probably — full intellectual blindness. In the case of so far happy-go-lucky Ursula von der Leyen there is no doubt it´d be the latter… but only if we first dismiss her warm on-the-record support for Bundeswehr colonial policies and military involvement… plus her praise of Third Reich famous general Field Marshall Erwin Rommel, Commander of the Führer Headquarters. But leaving that possible Nazi whiff aside, full ´intellectual blockage´ is the only kind way to dare explain a most strategic project as foolish and doomed to fail as banning Russian oil sales worldwide. Why so you may ask ?

Biden’s the worst president evah

We know that it would have been easy for Biden to stop Russia from going into Ukraine because Russia told him what he could do, but instead Biden ignored them. Of course this didn’t just start with Biden. Clinton should also be held accountable for this since he was the one who started NATO marching towards Russia’s borders after the USSR collapsed. We could have had the peace dividend, but no. America had to march on to American hegemony.

Of course Obama is also responsible for the current event after he brutally overthrew Ukraine’s president and continued working with the Ukraine Nazis. The only thing he refused to do was to send lethal weapons, but Trump finally did.

Anywho here we are with the world just a hairs breath away from full out nuclear war and the end of the world as we know it. Biden has been saying that he would not send troops into Ukraine, but the media mouthpieces for the chicken hawks are pushing for him to do just that. Plus more congress critters are also saying that yes indeed we should send our cannon fodder into Ukraine because they think that we have the baddest military in history. Never mind that they haven’t won a war in centuries or that the defense companies are making shoddy equipment because they put profits above quality. The pentagon has been watching how well the equipment being sent is working and they are going to dump the javelins because they are not up to snuff against Russian equipment.

Russia keeps building weapons that we can’t defend against and just built a submarine that is light years ahead of ours. We keep saying that if Putin gets backed into a corner he will use nukes. I think it’s the other way around. We will use them 1st because Russia is in the stronger position.

As for why Germany and the EU are committing domestic suicide I have no idea. Surely they have to know that they will lose lots of innocent lives because people won’t be able to afford to live or if pushed to their brink they will rise up against their government. It just doesn’t make sense.

Meanwhile have you heard about all the food processing plants that have been on fire lately? Seems like there is one more each day that is burning. The globalists are making war against humanity by pushing up prices on just about everything. They seem to think that if nuclear war or an economic breakdown happens all they need to do is go into their bunkers until the worst is over.

Here’s an old article on that by Eric Zeuss. It’s worth glancing at and there are lots of links to the bunkers that have been built and are ready for occupancy.

Here’s one with lots of pictures.

Good luck to the rich parasites getting to them when the crap hits the fan because unless there is room for the people who are guarding them they might be in for a nasty surprise.

created to promote the globalist oligarchy's hegemony. It has already failed and TPTB don't even realize the empire is burning. Where's the fiddler?

Thanks for the links. I thought Caity's piece was good too.

Chris had a piece a couple of weeks ago about the meat processing plants. Chris discusses the recent run of food plant explosions as well as the continued othering in society.

I don't know enough bout to hypothesize on that, but I do know we need more local processors. If you're sending animals to a abattoir you've got to have an appointment set up months, even a year ahead. Came across the bearded butchers who provide good instruction on butchering a variety of animals (including deer) if anyone has an interest. Hope it doesn't come to the need ,but preparation is not a bad idea.

Well have a good day, and thanks for the visit.

Reuters censors testimony by Mariupol witness - Russia’s deputy ambassador to UN

Reuters distorted testimonies by a woman evacuated from Mariupol in order to adjust her words to its own claims about the city’s shellings by the Russian army, Dmitry Polyansky said UNITED NATIONS, May 7. /TASS/.

Reuters has heavily censored and distorted testimonies by a woman evacuated from Mariupol in order to adjust her words to its own claims about the city’s shellings by the Russian army, Dmitry Polyansky said at an informal Arria Formula meeting of the UN Security Council, devoted to crimes by the Ukrainian military.

"The Reuters story creates an impression that the woman, Natalya Usmanova, is scared by Russian strikes and apparently hates Russia for what it has done to Ukraine," Polyansky said. He stressed that at the same time Reuters preferred to keep quiet about what the woman said loudly and clearly on Russian television.

Polyansky showed this video of Usmanova saying something Reuters did not dare quote in its story. The woman evacuee literally said:

"I do not wish to return to Ukraine. Honestly. My family’s vote was unanimous. Even if we ever decide to return, we will return only to Mariupol, to the Donetsk People’s Republic. And not to Ukraine," Usmanova said.

Yet, a Reuters spokesperson said the news organization stood by its reporting: "We are still seeking to verify key aspects of Natalia Usmanova's account. We are committed to reporting on the conflict on Ukraine in an impartial and independent way."

"It is deplorable that Western journalists in most cases participate in censorship and conceal undesirable information from their readerships and audiences," Polyansky concluded.

‘My War’. Part One. The Diary of Volunteer Evdokiya Sheremeteva.

We are publishing pieces of a heart-rending and sometimes unbearably honest book. A diary by journalist and volunteer Evdokiya Sheremeteva, who throughout the eight years of the war brought humanitarian aid to Donbass, rescued the sick and wounded, and collected ruthless evidence of the truth.

From the foreword of the book "There Are People Here: A Diary" by Evdokiya Sheremeteva.

“I wrote the book in the winter of 2015-2016. It is difficult to define the genre of this book. On the one hand, all the events are real. So are the characters. On the other hand, this is my reality. My war. My Donbass. And it is difficult to talk impartially here.

Zhenya, my friend with whom I have been travelling in Donbass (Zhenya from Moscow), commented on the book like this: ‘it exposed the flesh’. Yes, exactly like that. I have ripped off my skin and thrown myself at your feet. And I am scared.

In Mass Graves As Kiev Doesn't Want The Bodies (18+)
https://www.bitchute.com/video/zAHfO79fpPCE/

Simplicius76

The explanation is simple:
1. Ukraine doesn't want the bodies because it will be forced to count them and admit to the horrific losses of 40-50k dead they're experiencing. By leaving the bodies in the field they can count them as missing in action and doesn't have to officially list them as KIA2. they don't have to pay any death insurance and KIA compensation to the families of the soldier because the soldier will forever be considered "missing in action" and not officially 'dead'.
So it's a order from the nazi regime of Zelensky to let the dogs eat these carcasses because it's much better for Kiev that way. [show less]

Lots of American companies like Ford, IBM and rich people like Bush Sr. etc supported Hitler after the 1st Great War up to and including during the 2nd war and maybe if they hadn’t done that Hitler's history would be much different. That we are doing it again and so boldly should have Americans in the streets if they weren’t so damn brainwashed.

Ritter has a good piece on RT on his time living in Germany and how people reacted when they showed the holocaust series there because they hadn’t been taught that history either. What he doesn’t mention is our supporting Hitler at all, but then most people here don’t know that either. Americans have no idea how it was Russia that ended Hitler's reign of terror and that we were just the mop up team. But then Americans still believe that the cowboys were the good guys. We’re so fcking brainwashed and our leaders like us to be.

Outstanding essay, LO - thank you.

Someone may have posted this before, but it's worth a look for those who haven't seen it - MoA fact checks the Russian FM Lavrov's remarks about Jewish anti-semites (directed toward those claiming the Ukraine government can't be nazi influenced because Zelensky is Jewish) and the rabid and predictable Israeli response.

Lavrov's two points were that Hitler had Jewish ancestry (as did a number of officers in Germany's military) and that there is significant history of Jewish collaboration with nazis/fascists often to the detriment of other Jews.

Suffice it to say that MoA finds Lavrov to be correct on both counts.

excerpted bit:

The Foreign Ministry ... points to Israeli government sources which documented a big increase of antisemitism in Ukraine since the 2014 Maidan coup:

Since the coup in 2014, antisemitism has flourished in Ukraine. The report of the Minister for Relations with the Diaspora of Israel, @naftalibennett (PM now), indicates that in 2017 the number of antisemitic incidents including dozens of acts of vandalism in museums, synagogues and memorials, increased manifold in Ukraine.
Ukraine has become the leader among all the countries of the former USSR in terms of the number of antisemitic incidents, and some publications indicate that Ukraine generally surpasses all the countries of the former USSR combined in their number. One of the prominent representatives of the Jewish movement in Ukraine, Eduard Dolinsky, recently feared the termination of the activities of his organization (“Ukrainian Jewish Committee”).

There is a certain tradition of collaboration between Zionists and antisemitic people. Event the founder of the Zionist movement to establish a 'Jewish state', Theodor Herzl, was guilty of it:

[A]s the Austro-Hungarian writer Theodor Herzl was about to publish his manifesto The Jewish State in February 1896, he faced intense pressure from Vienna’s Jewish community to halt publication. Herzl rejected the pleas, published the book, and launched a movement that ultimately led to the establishment of modern Israel. Around the same time, the residents of Vienna elected an anti-Semitic mayor. To the relief of Vienna’s Jews, the emperor refused to approve Karl Lueger, but Herzl lobbied the prime minister to accept the people’s choice, arguing that boycotting the populist leader would only increase hatred of Jews.
Herzl had hoped that the installment of an anti-semitic mayor would push more Jews in Vienna towards supporting his idea of a 'Jewish state'.

Israel's arming of fascist militia in Ukraine may well have a similar motive:

Israel is keen on bringing in Ukrainian Jewish refugees for the purpose of maintaining Jewish demographic “supremacy” over the Palestinian population, academics and analysts say.

Since the outbreak of the war with Russia on February 24, the Israeli government has called on Ukrainian Jewish refugees to immigrate to Israel and removed bureaucratic hurdles to secure their arrival as quickly as possible.

@Blue Republic

I’d love for someone to look at this and give an opinion on it.

The Jewish Declaration of War on Nazi Germany: The Economic Boycott of 1933

Long before the Hitler government began restricting the rights of the German Jews, the leaders of the worldwide Jewish community formally declared war on the "New Germany" at a time when the U.S. government and even the Jewish leaders in Germany were urging caution in dealing with the new Hitler regime.

The war by the international Jewish leadership on Germany not only sparked definite reprisals by the German government but also set the stage for a little-known economic and political alliance between the Hitler government and the leaders of the Zionist movement who hoped that the tension between the Germans and the Jews would lead to massive emigration to Palestine. In short, the result was a tactical alliance between the Nazis and the founders of the modern-day state of Israel - a fact that many today would prefer be forgotten.

Unfortunately there are no links to the articles he’s talking about. If I have time I’ll look for some and see what I find.

From the comments on this saker essay on rebranding Nazis in Ukraine.

Rebranding Nazism

As a teacher of history, the topic of Nazi Germany is always one which generates numerous questions from students. How were the Nazis able to convince the public to vote for them? How did they convince the people to go along with their fascist agenda and barbaric policies? How was the Holocaust allowed to take place?

Despite discussing the role of propaganda and censorship, as well as the fear of opposing the Nazi regime, one still finds students often somewhat bemused. Moreover, many invariably argue that nowadays, due to social media, the Internet, and other methods of communication, the evils of Nazism could never succeed in flourishing again.

However, that is about to change. One only has to look at the manner in which the Azov Battalion, a fully-fledged Ukrainian Nazi militia, with significant influence, has been whitewashed in the space of ten weeks. Whereas prior to February 24th 2022, they were recognised as a neo-Nazi battalion, these fascists are now being portrayed as valiant defenders of an oppressed people, fighting bravely against insurmountable odds.

Just a few short years ago congress forbade supporting the Nazis in Ukraine because gosh that’s a very dumb thing to do after what happened last time we did. One of America’s best kept secrets was how much support Hitler got before and during WW2. Maybe if that hadn’t happened there would have been no war.
