Two devastatingly bad events for The Left

I'm not sure which one to lead with, since they are unrelated.
The only thing these two events have in common is the triumph of neoliberalism over people on the Left.

I'll start with Glenn Greenwald.

Today I sent my intention to resign from The Intercept, the news outlet I co-founded in 2013 with Jeremy Scahill and Laura Poitras, as well as from its parent company First Look Media.

The final, precipitating cause is that The Intercept’s editors, in violation of my contractual right of editorial freedom, censored an article I wrote this week, refusing to publish it unless I remove all sections critical of Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, the candidate vehemently supported by all New-York-based Intercept editors involved in this effort at suppression.

The censored article, based on recently revealed emails and witness testimony, raised critical questions about Biden’s conduct. Not content to simply prevent publication of this article at the media outlet I co-founded, these Intercept editors also demanded that I refrain from exercising a separate contractual right to publish this article with any other publication.

This is even worse than when Truthdig was crushed. We are fast running out of independent media outlets on the left.
And then there is today's complete and final capitulation of the U.K. Labour Party to the neoliberal right-wing.

Britain's main opposition Labour party has suspended its former leader Jeremy Corbyn, in a stunning development that followed the release of a damning report by the UK's human rights watchdog.
The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) on Thursday identified "serious failings" with how Labour dealt with anti-Semitism in the party during Corbyn's time as leader.
Corbyn responded to the report by saying that while he condemned anti-Semites, the scale of the problem under his leadership had been "dramatically overstated for political reasons."
Those comments drew a swift and dramatic response from the party. "In light of (Corbyn's) comments made today and his failure to retract them subsequently, the Labour Party has suspended Jeremy Corbyn pending investigation. He has also had the whip removed from the Parliamentary Labour Party," a party spokesperson said.

The decision rocked the British political world: Less than a year ago, at the December 2019 general election, Corbyn was bidding to be Prime Minister.

It's total crap, of course. It's another instance of the wealthy elites using IDPol to silence the Left.
It's also depressing, because like Israel, the Left in the UK has now been wiped out.

It makes me realize that all the horrible tales from history — the horrific things that human savages-wearing-clothes did to each other for unbelievable stupid hallucinatory irrational reasons — those things can happen at anytime and the people around us will blithely permit it. History and time offers no protection.

I don't think, as a species, Homo sapiens is sane.

But here’s Marcy explaining why she went to the FBI during the Mueller investigation.

Lol.

I told him, vaguely, that I knew that entities external to both the DNC and Crowdstrike had evidence confirming the GRU attribution. I had a well-placed source who knew Phil was wrong. He seemed not only sure he could convince me otherwise, but intent on learning what I knew, which I didn’t share.

Umm..guess this is a bunch of hoey because CrowdStrike never saw evidence that Russia hacked the DNC computers. Guess the jokes on her. Too bad I can’t tell her that cuz I called her out on her BS once to many times and she can’t stand being called out on her bullshit.

Good on GG for standing up to censorship.

As if Tucker Carlson needs it (his interview with Bobulinski the other day about his dealings with the Bidens garnered some kind of world record for viewer numbers) maybe Greenwald's appearance on his show will bump his ratings some more.

Mother of God what the hell happened?!

The site changed after Obama became president when he continued the Bush/PNAC wars in Libya, Syria and Yemen and went on to commit 3 brutal coups and most of the members there supported him. Why? Reasons and who the hell knows why people can go from being anti war under one admin to supporting it under a new one. Then any criticism of Obama was labeled racist even when it was valid. And hang on to your hats because they have decided that any criticism of Kamala is both racist and misogynistic. It is gonna be a long 4 years. And don't dare say that Kamala's laugh is like fingernails on a chalkboard. And do not criticize her for dancing..........one's up from the site scold on that.

It'd be great to see who went full support of the same wars Bush did to those who have bought into the Russia Gate saga because they supported Obama no matter what and who saw through it from the git go. Dunno how one does that,, but it does seem that Obama/Hillary supporters bought it while Bernie/3rd party folks saw through it.

Still a place of censorship and back stabbing. But then that fits today's Democratic Party.

I never gave Kos a dime all those years when I was active on the site. However, I just gave Glenn Greenwald $50 for a 1 year subscription. I had hated that guy for a long time after his nonsense war with Sam Harris. Over the years since then, however, I found myself drawn to and very impressed with his reporting on quite a few topics. So now I have subscribed to David Sirota and Glenn Greenwald. Anywhere I can go to get good factual reporting has become incredibly important. The whole Biden censorship thing is one of the scariest events to come down the pike in a long time. And I don't think we are done with it. Any way we can support any reporting that is factual and verifiable is important.

I never thought I'd see the day when democrats were in favor of censorship, but starting with when Jones was banned from social media they were all for it. And boy did Kamala get lots of kudos for calling for Twitter to keep Trump off it. Censure your enemies instead of debating them with facts is in vogue.

Remember how pissed people were after the dems laid the ACA because they wanted single payer that Obama ran on? Well when Bernie was running on many of the same things O did suddenly they were to much of an ask that this country could join the sane world and have single payer health care. "I love my private health care" was an echo there for awhile. I don't get that.

I don't personally know a single person who actually likes Joe Biden or wants him, specifically, to be president. They don't care who the Dem candidate is, it just doesn't matter, Trump has to be voted out. If the other option on the ballot were literally "Anyone not trump, to be decided by a random national lottery" they would vote for that without hesitation. That the election is even marginally close is a testament to how many people really do not like Joe Biden.

I’ll try to find the article if they wrote one. Maybe someone has already posted it, but then maybe not?

GLENN GREENWALD’S DECISION to resign from The Intercept stems from a fundamental disagreement over the role of editors in the production of journalism and the nature of censorship. Glenn demands the absolute right to determine what he will publish. He believes that anyone who disagrees with him is corrupt, and anyone who presumes to edit his words is a censor. Thus, the preposterous charge that The Intercept’s editors and reporters, with the lone, noble exception of Glenn Greenwald, have betrayed our mission to engage in fearless investigative journalism because we have been seduced by the lure of a Joe Biden presidency. A brief glance at the stories The Intercept has published on Biden will suffice to refute those claims.

The narrative Glenn presents about his departure is teeming with distortions and inaccuracies — all of them designed to make him appear as a victim, rather than a grown person throwing a tantrum. It would take too long to point them all out here, but we intend to correct the record in time. For now, it is important to make clear that our goal in editing his work was to ensure that it would be accurate and fair. While he accuses us of political bias, it was he who was attempting to recycle the dubious claims of a political campaign — the Trump campaign — and launder them as journalism

ETA this last part:

We have no doubt that Glenn will go on to launch a new media venture where he will face no collaboration with editors — such is the era of Substack and Patreon. In that context, it makes good business sense for Glenn to position himself as the last true guardian of investigative journalism and to smear his longtime colleagues and friends as partisan hacks. We get it. But facts are facts, and The Intercept’s record of fearless, rigorous, independent journalism speaks for itself.

Lmao...Jim Risen has been a propagandist on their site since he started there. He went full boar Russia Gate on his readers and that is not fearless, rigorous, independent journalism . It’s propaganda. Period. And I have never seen Risen offer any mea culpers for gaslighting them.

question everything

anti-simitic charges against Corbyn and ousting him from the party is the more serious development. OTOH, perhaps Corbyn and other real Labourites will form a viable Labour party and leave the malefactors to make their deals with the useless Lib-Dems and the evil Tories.

On Greenwald, I do recall and read him when he first popped up as a political blogger. He's good on some things and not so good on others. That Libertarian-Republican bent of his still leaks through. Also, he's not a journalist and therefore, has never had to work and compromise with editors. Some of whom are good and make the work of a journalist better and some of whom are gatekeepers for TPTB. TDS is likely deep with The Intercept editors. OTOH, Greenwald know that the Hunter, etc. stuff is ordinary corruption endemic in most countries. Those that don't already know how horrid Biden is aren't going to suddenly wake up because of a Greenwald article. So, perhaps this wasn't the best hill for Greenwald to choose to die on.

if you’re fighting censorship. He explains why he did it here

https://greenwald.substack.com/p/my-resignation-from-the-intercept

and he links to his article on the censorship inside. The way the media is covering for Biden is a huge story because they aren’t being honest about why they are.

Lmao

How a fake persona laid the groundwork for a Hunter Biden conspiracy deluge

A 64-page document that was later disseminated by close associates of President Donald Trump appears to be the work of a fake "intelligence firm."

Despite the document's questionable authorship and anonymous sourcing, its claims that Hunter Biden has a problematic connection to the Communist Party of China have been used by people who oppose the Chinese government, as well as by far-right influencers, to baselessly accuse candidate Joe Biden of being beholden to the Chinese government.

....

I had really not wanted to do this but roughly 2 months ago I was handed a report about Biden activities in China the press has simply refused to cover. I want to strongly emphasize I did not write the report but I know who did," Balding said in an email.

Balding later claimed to NBC News that he wrote some of the document.

"I authored small parts of the report and was involved in report preparation and review. As a researcher, and due to the understandable worry about foreign disinformation, it was paramount that the report document activity from acknowledged and public sources," Balding said. "Great care was taken to document, cite, and retain information so that acknowledged facts could be placed in the public domain."

Okay I guess. Seems to me that this article is talking about something totally different from the Biden laptop, but I didn’t read it closely. Lots of time went into writing this just to make sure nothing gets attached to Joe Biden. Is this a game changer for me? Nope. I really don’t care much about the topic except that it shows how rampant corruption is in government. Other than that, big whoops. Not sure if this is true, but someone tweeted that Pelosi’s husband got fed funding for some property and after doing what he did he sold the property to Feinstein’s husband who got fed funding to buy it.

But Pelosi’s husband did get money from the CARES flush fund for the rich.

@snoopydawg that Glenn posted about the emails, and I ran across this nugget,

First, the claim that the material is of suspect authenticity or cannot be verified -- the excuse used on behalf of Biden by Leslie Stahl and Christiane Amanpour, among others

Well, one can not verify the claims if one doesn't actually check to verify the claims. Right? Kind of like Trump trying to keep case counts low by keeping those Cruise liners off shore, so the case counts don't add o the number of US cases.

It's 2016 all over again. I mean, everyone knew about Hunter Biden being on the board of a Ukrainian Energy Company, when Obama help overthrow Ukraine and allowed NAZI shock troops to do it. But I digress.

Them = it doesn't exist if we don't look for it
Us = why don't you look for it
Them = it doesn't exist, it's a Russian disinformation campaign
Us = how do you know its a Russian disinformation campaign
Them = because unnamed intelligence sources told us
Us = Did they provide any evidence
Them = it doesn't exist if we don't look for it

Rinse and repeat, right? I mean, the steps or iteration variables maybe slightly adjusted, but it's the same damn "algorithm" no?

I'm like, if one's vote for president, hangs on Hunter Biden emails, God help us...we're doomed!

I think I'm in mourning for the Republic.

Many newspapers wrote about the conflict of interest with Hunter being in that position whilst his dad is overseeing things. Glenn quotes few sources in his article and I’ve read quite a few more. If Biden loses I think someone is going to look back and think that this story should have been handled differently. Instead of the media giving Biden cover of it, the Biden campaign could have said that they were going to look into it and then not say anything until after the election. This censorship is just keeping it in the public’s eye longer and more people interested in it. Dumb move in my opinion.

Aaron nails it too.

@snoopydawg @snoopydawg as censorship. Facebook/Twitter aren't news producers, and those who rely on them for their news are lazy and not too bright. (btw - I appreciate many tweets but also recognize that content can be manipulated and distorted.) The Intercept claims to be, but it's mostly a rehash of what others report and opinions. (btw -- Omidyar isn't in anything for the public good.)

The Burisma matter has long been covered. People have to draw their own conclusions because no smoking gun has emerged and I don't expect any will. Shokin wasn't the first Prosecutor General under Poroshenko, and it was before Shokin that the Burisma millions frozen in the UK were released. Nobody seems to know how and why that happened. There were so many in DC with fingers in Ukraine directing stuff that untangling all the actors and why remains hidden -- or is it suppressed or censored?

I'm reminded of a couple of prior pre-election stories. In 1972, after the first week, there was little reporting on the Watergate break-in except for the developments carried by WaPo. The public didn't much care and reporters and editors didn't follow up. Publishers did want Nixon reelected and McGovern soundly defeated. So, suppressing that story was in their interest.

In 2016, Glen Simpson and Chris Steele were very frustrated that they couldn't get major media to cover the Steele Dossier. It didn't appear anywhere. Was that censorship or responsible journalism to pass on an unsubstantiated story? When (whst's his name?) when ahead with it, it barely made a ripple. A month later Corn didn't fare much better. It wasn't until after the election and team Clinton began blaring the matter that it gained any traction. Too bad they didn't continue to pass on it, but when major political leaders and political parties make much of anything, it's always news.

Alternatively, without major media being enthralled with the 2016 Trump campaign -- giving him gobs of free air-time -- he probably wouldn't have won the nomination. People (voters) didn't care that he was a sleazy, crooked businessman and therefore, that was given scant media attention. They also soft peddled the Clintons sleaze. If they told the truth, the full truth, and nothing but the truth, none of these characters (Clinton, Trump, Biden, etc.) would be anywhere near the WH. But I'd say the same about Nixon, Ford, Reagan, and the Bushes. It sucks but it's business as usual, and every last one of them got a free ride at some point in their political careers.

But I haven't gone back to look for it. I think VIPS did the forensics that revealed it.

Barr and Mueller and many of those lawyers go way back. They were all known for the same thing, clean up/cover up, slow-it-down, push it down the memory hole.

Haspel [CIA] and Wray [FBI] have stonewalled the investigation and Trump wants to fire them and Esper, too, secretary of defense. Barr and Durham were likely faking it and running out the clock. There was a lot to cover up.

Trump had a knack of appointing the Neocon scum of the earth to surround himself. So, his misfortunes are all self-inflicted. So dumb. But now these Deep State psychopaths are the darlings of the Democrats, plus that fucked-up crew from the Ukraine impeachment sting. Nice how the ruling class finessed the Pnackers to become the new idols of the Democratic Party.

If Joe does win, I hope he gets the House and Senate. Remember when Obama came in with a supercharged Congress and he used it to get us single payer health care? Neither do I. He scored stimulus for the Ruling Class bankers, instead. Trump came in and gave the Ruling Class those major tax cuts, which blew the deficits out. Joe will come it, look at the deficits, and he'll raise their taxes? He's spent his entire career helping the Uber-capitalists prey on the lower classes. He'll be told what to do. Trump won't lift a finger for the people who voted him out. The US will be a pandemic wasteland by the time Biden is inaugurated.

@Pluto's Republic

. I posted this comment 18 months ago about how Comey, Mueller, Rosenstein, Barr and others have been cleaning up after the Clinton crime family for ages. It is mind blowing:

Bob my man, why in the world do we want Mueller gone. Now that it’s been a year and a half with nothing to show for it?? We love to see him dangling like this.

Maybe a little background for ya Bob, mmmk?

From 2001 to 2005 there was an ongoing investigation into the Clinton Foundation.

A Grand Jury had been empaneled.

Governments from around the world had donated to the “Charity”.

Yet, from 2001 to 2003 none of those “Donations” to the Clinton Foundation were declared.

Hmmm, now you would think that an honest investigator would be able to figure this out.

Guess who took over this investigation in 2002?

Bet you can’t guess.

Comey

None other than James “Wassup Homey” Comey.

Now, that’s interesting, isn’t it?

Guess who was transferred in to the Internal Revenue Service to run the Tax Exemption Branch of the IRS?

Your friend and mine, our favorite person in the whole world if you are a Tea Party Member, Pro-Life or a True the Vote supporter……. ding, ding, ding, ding Lois “Be on The Look Out” (BOLO) Lerner.

Now, that’s interesting, isn’t it?

It gets better, well not really, but I am sure this is all just a series of strange coincidences, right?

Guess who ran the Tax Division inside the Department of Injustice from 2001 to 2005?

Old Rod Rosenstein

No other than the Assistant Attorney General of the United States, Rod Rosenstein.

Now, that’s interesting, isn’t it?

Guess who was the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation during this timeframe???

I know, it’s a miracle, just a coincidence, just an anomaly in statistics and chances, Robert Mueller.

What do all four casting characters have in common?

They all were briefed and/or were front line investigators into the Clinton Foundation Investigation.

Now that’s just a coincidence, right?

Ok, lets chalk the last one up to mere chance.

Let’s fast forward to 2009, shall we?

James “Wassup Homey” Comey leaves the Justice Department to go and cash-in at Lockheed Martin.

Hillary Clinton is running the State Department, on her own personal email server by the way.

The Uranium One “issue” comes to the attention of the Hildabeast.

Hildabeast and Homey

Like all good public servants do, you know looking out for America’s best interest, she decides to support the decision and approve the sale of 20% of US Uranium to no other than, the Russians.

Now you would think that this is a fairly straight up deal, except it wasn’t, the People got absolutely nothing out of it.

However, prior to the sales approval, no other than Arkansas Bill goes to Moscow, gets paid 500K for a one hour speech then meets with Vladimir Putin at his home for a few hours.

Ok, no big deal right?

Well, not so fast, the FBI had a mole inside the money laundering and bribery scheme.

Guess who was the FBI Director during this time frame?

Yep, Robert Mueller.

He even delivered a Uranium Sample to Moscow in 2009.

Guess who was handling that case within the Justice Department out of the US Attorney’s Office in Maryland.

No other than, Rod Rosenstein.

Guess what happened to the informant?

The Department of Justice placed a GAG order on him and threatened to lock him up if he spoke out about it.

Interesting, huh?

How does 20% of the most strategic asset of the United States of America end up in Russian hands when the FBI has an informant, a mole providing inside information to the FBI on the criminal enterprise?

Guess what happened soon after the sale was approved?

$145 million dollars in “donations” made their way into the Clinton Foundation from entities directly connected to the Uranium One deal.

BOLO Lerner

Guess who was still at the Internal Revenue Service working the Charitable Division?

None other than, Lois “BOLO” Lerner.

Interesting, huh?

Ok, that’s all just another series of coincidences, nothing to see here, right?

Let’s fast forward to 2015.

Due to a series of tragic events in Benghazi and after the 9 “investigations” the House, Senate and at State Department, Trey Gowdy who was running the 10th investigation as Chairman of the Select Committee on Benghazi discovers that the Hildabeast ran the State Department on a unclassified, unauthorized, outlaw personal email server.

He also discovered that none of those emails had been turned over when she departed her “Public Service” as Secretary of State which was required by law.

He also discovered that there was Top Secret information contained within her personally archived email.

I will spare you the State Departments cover up, the nostrums they floated, the delay tactics that were employed and the outright lies that were spewed forth from the necks of the Kerry State Department, we shall leave it with this…… they did everything humanly possible to cover for the Hildabeast.

Now this is amazing, guess who became FBI Director in 2013?

Guess who secured 17 no-bid contracts for his employer with the State Department and was rewarded with a six million dollar thank you present when he departed his employer.

No other than James “Wassup Homey” Comey.

Amazing how all those no-bids just went right through at State, huh?

Now he is the FBI Director in charge of the “Clinton Email Investigation” after of course his FBI Investigates the Lois Lerner “Matter” at the Internal Revenue Service and exonerates her.

Nope couldn’t find any crimes there.

Can you guess what happened next?

In April 2016, James “Wassup Homey” Comey drafts an exoneration letter of Hillary Rodham Clinton, meanwhile the DOJ is handing out immunity deals like candy.

They didn’t even convene a Grand Jury.

Like a lightning bolt of statistical impossibility, like a miracle from God himself, like the true “Gangsta” Homey is, James steps out into the cameras of an awaiting press conference on July the 8th of 2016, and exonerates the Hildabeast from any wrongdoing.

Can you see the pattern?

Rosenstein, Comey and Mueller

I could go on, Rosenstein (Larry) becomes Asst. Attorney General, Comey (Curly) gets fired based upon a letter by Rosenstein, Comey leaks government information to the press, Mueller (Moe) is assigned to the Russian Investigation sham by Rosenstein to provide cover for decades of malfeasance within the FBI and DOJ and the story continues.

FISA Abuse, political espionage…… pick a crime, any crime, chances are…… this group and a few others did it.

All the same players.

All compromised and conflicted.

All working fervently to NOT go to jail themselves.

All connected in one way or another to the Clinton’s.

They are like battery acid, they corrode and corrupt everything they touch.

How many lives have these two destroyed?

It cannot be numbered.

Incest, it’s Incestuous!

As of this writing, the Clinton Foundation, in its 20+ years of operation of being the largest International Charity Fraud in the history of mankind, has never been audited by the Internal Revenue Service.

Who was the Clinton's largest super donor in 2016?

Ukraine, of course. They meddled in the election, not Russia. With the help of the US Embassy in Kiev. Later, that same embassy crew would plan the Impeachment sting from Kiev, and all of them would show up in DC to testify against Trump.

The Third Rail Greenwald stepped on wasn't the Biden money laundering gang.

Haven’t a few people involved in this told others that yes indeed they interfered on Hillary’s part to make sure she won? Who was it that set up Manafort by dropping his little black book? As to the corruption in Ukraine the democrats had their hands in most parts of it. Schiff and Pelosi (?) had their fingers in arms dealings and some other things. A few republicans did too. This is the swamp.

...this story off its web site. It was written even before Trump was inaugurated — if you're really interested in the back story. The writers didn't quite understand what they were writing about. They are just parroting the CIA/State Department narrative, but the more they write, the more they realize that the propaganda doesn't fit the events they are uncovering. I don't think the dirty dossier fakery was out there yet.

I’ve read a few articles on Ukraine’s involvement , but not them admitting it like that. This writer is funny. A little truth to a little propaganda.

True and false

The Ukrainian efforts had an impact in the race, helping to force Manafort’s resignation and advancing the narrative that Trump’s campaign was deeply connected to Ukraine’s foe to the east, Russia. But they were far less concerted or centrally directed than Russia’s alleged hacking and dissemination of Democratic emails.

Propaganda

Russia’s effort was personally directed by Russian President Vladimir Putin, involved the country’s military and foreign intelligence services, according to U.S. intelligence officials. They reportedly briefed Trump last week on the possibility that Russian operatives might have compromising information on the president-elect. And at a Senate hearing last week on the hacking, Director of National Intelligence James Clapper said “I don't think we've ever encountered a more aggressive or direct campaign to interfere in our election process than we've seen in this case.”

Funny what passes for evidence these days.

I wish more people would see what the media is doing. I get that people want Trump out, but if they have to resort to censorship what’s left of a free democracy if that is the right phrasing? Biden should have handled this differently because it’s not a game changer for most folks.

If Bernie had quit to join a "Fusion" ticket as Biden's VP, that would have made political sense. To just walk away and endorse the man who had only received 2% of the votes without ANY visible tot for tat is Chicago Politics.

Do you think most of them believe him because they have bought into the fake news story or do they look at their areas and see that it’s bullshit? I’m really curious about how they think. If possible.

I’m usually done with the news by 7, but way behind tonight.

The last honest journalists.

They still believe in telling the whole truth as it is, while everyone around them are more interested in spreading propaganda in defense of the political party they represent.

It's too bad there aren't any honest journalists over on FoxNews or NewsMax or DrudgeReport or wherever the right-wingers get their news (Qanon, god forbid). They're all too busy spreading conspiracy theories and lies.

The Drudge Report is a news aggregator. They produce no news content of their own. All they do is link to artciels and editorials on other websites. Aggregators are in a unique position in that they can slant the news through inclusion and omission and through wording of the headlines that link to other site's articles. Drudge currently appears to lean somewhere between Dem-right and Rep-left, and the site's tilt for the last 4 years has been strongly TDS.

I find him basically above board on most of his writings, but he does write a few things that bleed into the Russian disinformation. I have no articles to point to, but going from my impression of him. But in this environment and with people like Rachel Maddow pushing it 110% I will read Ryan's work over listening to her any day.
