“What we now want is closer contact and better understanding between individuals and communities all over the earth, and the elimination of egoism and pride which is always prone to plunge the world into primeval barbarism and strife… Peace can only come as a natural consequence of universal enlightenment…”
The scientists of today think deeply instead of clearly. One must be sane to think clearly, but one can think deeply and be quite insane.
Nikola Tesla is known as an inventor. He understood the language of electrons long before silicone valley was conceived. Many followed in the wake of his genius, but few seem to give credit to the information highways he paved. Had we developed his energy transfer plans, we would not be tied to the grid in the same way. The capitalists figured a money making alternative. Here we are. Some of the genius of our race are better able to explain. Leading minds toward more awareness. Another voice, speaking of things in a different way. Adds contrast. A back-lit alternative to the current narrative.
Let the future tell the truth, and evaluate each one according to his work and accomplishments. The present is theirs; the future, for which I have really worked, is mine.
Our virtues and our failings are inseparable, like force and matter. When they separate, man is no more.

My brain is only a receiver, in the Universe there is a core from which we obtain knowledge, strength and inspiration.
But instinct is something which transcends knowledge. We have, undoubtedly, certain finer fibers that enable us to perceive truths when logical deduction, or any other willful effort of the brain, is futile.
Most persons are so absorbed in the contemplation of the outside world that they are wholly oblivious to what is passing on within themselves.
Every living being is an engine geared to the wheelwork of the universe. Though seemingly affected only by its immediate surrounding, the sphere of external influence extends to infinite distance.
Quotes are all Nikola Tesla, way ahead of his time.

Zuckerberg wants to create a new global online crypto currency
I scanned two German newspaper articles about a global currency that Zuckerberg will 'manage' and offer. We would supposedly be paying just with a swipe of an icon on our mobile phones, or may be not, I don't understand what I am reading. The thingie will be like an online worldwide 'Zentralbank' and create a whole new financial system. Banks might be destroyed (runs on the banks to withdraw their savings from them?) and what have you. Was too lazy to translate the articles.
No nerves to understand the whole shebang, other than that Mr. Zuckerberg's empire has to go and to be controlled and regulated, which apparently people don't know how to do.
I hate this sugarboy with a passion and obviously that's not good.
If any of you can cover the whole issue of what Zuckerberg is up to with his new online crypto-currency, I would gratefully appreciate it. Somehow Zuckerbergs purchases and plans have been a long time in the making, but in secrecy. Lately he has supposedly reveiled his plans in 53 seconds with one sentence somewhere...
And now I wonder what Nicola Tesla would have said about Zuckerberg. Sigh. My savings are in my sugar bowl hidden on the top of my wooden curtain rod cover. Looks like it is safe there, what do you think? My mom had the idea to hide her saving there. It worked. She saved and transferred her savings to us via inheritance. Grandmas are the best thing in the world. Right? My son is still thinking about my assessments of grandmas to be true or not. And I am wondering what takes him so long to doubt my assessment.
Should I be happy to be a dummy?

So true n/t
A short while ago there was a minor news break concerning
the fact that relatively few Chinese have bank accounts, and relatively vast numbers of them instead use an app developed/run/managed by Ali Baba. The discussion centered around the fact that, like bitcoin, it freed one from the tyranny of banks, and, in the Ali Baba variation looked to have the power to muscle in and reduce the ability of banks to manipulate currencies, currency markets, equity and bond markets, etc., etc. The flip side of that is that now Ali Baba has you by the throat in the same manner that the banks otherwise would, you are under their control and power.
So, sugarcliff wants to get into that racket, no doubt to supplant and eventually replace Ali Baba, all the banks, bitcoin and everything else. A sociopath such as he with that amount of power and control over everyone would waste no time in becoming arbiter and emperor of all, a terrifying prospect. Most thinking people seem to be aware of that, but not all necessarily see that Ali Baba is setting itself up to have that same power.
Strangely, similar capabilities are in the hands of most of us, but we don't see the full picture. I can buy stuff with a phone app and or pay-pal and or Google's pay-pal like function. Those payments can be linked directly to my bank, or to a credit card. But, you used to be able to carry a positive balance in both your google and pay-pal accounts and maybe still can. There is seemingly no reason you couldn't have direct deposit of payroll or pension into those alternative accounts and dispense with banks entirely. The only question is who is the replacement, sugarcliff, pay-pal, google, ali baba or somebody else.

Since you asked Mimi ;)
Absolutely Mimi. There is a reason for the saying "ignorance is bliss". It does have its place.
It does not preclude enlightenment. I embrace both.

I trust paypal less than most banks. I need to learn about it. My blissful ignorance is getting on my nerves.
Thanks for your answer. I am sure this will come up again.

Another perception,
so true.
At least one episode of Big Bang Theory was about Tesla and
Edison. Of course, Edison invented many things. Some of those things, Edison invented after someone else had invented them, but Edison got the US patent for them anyway. Kind of like Disney and Mickey Mouse and Rowling and a young boy witch and copyright.
Anyway, Edison's summer cottage, near that of Henry Ford, is in Fort Myers, Florida, spring training home of the Red Sox. Fort Myers, Florida is adjacent to Fort Myers Beach, Florida. I guess the people who named the two "cities" were not very creative?
The nickname of Fort Myers is the City of Palms, but palm trees were not indigenous to Fort Myers. Rather they were planted by somebody because somebody rich wanted them there. I've forgotten whom, but Luther Burbank did do some work in Fort Myers, maybe at the behest Edison. Teddy Roosevelt, a wealthy man himself, used to pal around in Fort Myers sometimes with Ford and Edison. IIRC, Luther Burbank was an influence on Teddy Roosevelt's naturalism. But don't take that one to the bank.
I don't know why minutia like this sticks in my brain, while important things race out of it. If there is no possible way to monetize a certain kind of info, I probably know it.
Back to Tesla(ish): I don't know where Tesla summered. But, electricity or not, please learn not to hate. Hate only keeps you tied in a self-destructive way to the person or thing you hate. Trite, but true. Just move on and enjoy life as much as you possibly can: Despite all its faults, it's a remarkable experience.
Have a day that is much more fun than this post, everyone.
PT Barnum had a place down there.
His idea of a circus may have influenced future generations of pols?
Anyway, the energy behind hate (misplaced love) was his point, I think.
Enjoy your day!

Thanks, although I
I cannot help but wonder why you assumed that I had missed the point of Tesla's sentence.

LOL go on...

Happy Tuesday
thanks for pointing out that rift in the song. I knew it from somewhere, and the Brubeck number was it! Ah, Acapulco Gold. Now it makes sense. In an acid kinda way.
Cheers!

Tesla, the ramble and peace
Thanks QMS for the open thread. Have always found Tesla to be an interesting person. Never had read these quotes and found them spot on.
The ramble made a lot of sense as well. Always found listening to birds very peaceful.
Have been going to botanical gardens while visiting sister in Michigan and were very soothing. Yesterday walked in the botanical garden in Austin with sister in law. There is an oriental garden within that D.O and I spent hours in and allowed some peaceful memories to wash over me. Word for today is peace and don't let hate even enter my mind as I go about my day. Everyone have a good one!
Life is what you make it, so make it something worthwhile.
This ain't no dress rehearsal!
Thanks JB
In retrospect, probably should not have lead with the hate quote ( i liked the picture ). My interpretation was his calculating the intolerance abounding during his time. Tesla's thoughts had a deep component. Here is an intro to his coil...

Zionism is a social disease
Hola QMS, et. al. Mild weather day here today. Lots of the
usual to do or not as the case may be, the hardest task, as so often, is deciding which to start with and which few to declare to be today's task list. Thanks for the tune, a great one, from a great album by a great band. I recall seeing them live at roughly the same time as that album came out, I think I can still hear "Pride of Man" from that concert ringing around in my head if I listen close.
Have a great one.

Raining like clouds are crying here
but calm, no wind. Between fronts. Got the sails up on one of my boats. A good thing. Between storms. Good luck with your projects. It's fun to cross off a particularly challenging one.

great stuff QMS
Great QMS QMS. I loved 'em then, and love 'em now. Tesla was a smart one. Wonder what Dave Brubeck thought when he heard it? Bet he loved it.
thanks!

Much appreciation for your feedback dystopian..
You are good about expressing appreciation for the wordsmiths on this project.
beginning to think posting here is a waste of precious mind energy and time.
I agree'd to host an open thread, not much builds.
It's good to know at least someone finds something good in what is presented.
Eyo, EL, and an occasional third party (HAW) feels the worth of responding some times.
Can probably put less effort into it. One way street.
Just run the banner.
I understand JtC's expectation of having an open thread, for those (like aspie and mimi) that feel more comfortable to post in an open format.
Actually needs no content, on my end. Since you all have higher projections of intelligence and worthy subjects. Can't climb that mountain. Entertainment means nothing here. So-- just OT.
Just a place holder is what you will have. Until someone wants to tag team with pinch hitter Anja.
Herding cats.
Again, thanks for getting my back.

Your contribution is deeply appreciated.
When certain responsibilities become un-satisfying to you, it makes sense to put your commitments in order.
A wise person I know said, ‘Listen to your higher mind’.
Thank you QMS for your presence when possible.
Where I post a comment is more a matter of
not knowing where to post it.
My inner biological clock shuts down my capabilities of thinking straight late in the evening and in the morning it takes a lot of time waking up.
So there is this damn thing of the earth turning around its axis and producing those time zones and jet lags of my body to catch up with either Joe's EB comments and essay excerpt or with the daily Open Threads. No matter when I want to say something, the open threads are either not yet posted and for the EBs I come too late. It frustrates me, either my comments are too off topic or they are too early or too late.
QMS, all I can say, is that your comments or work on the Open Thread HAVE helped me a lot.
Even if I can not say that on time, due to my stubborn inner clock. No time zone differences are worse for me to deal with than the one betwetten Germany and Hawaii. 12 hours. 6 hours between Germany and the East Coast are manageable, 9 hours between the West Coast and Germany, oh well, how often do I think out of which region a comment was posted. And I get still confused with New Zealand. And janis b is always so comforting with her words.
So, don't despair. You are read and it's helping a lot. Even if nobody comments.
PS, and you are right, Open Threads need to be there, but it is not necessary for them to have real content. It's a place where one can make a comment that one wants to make immediately just to let people know what has occupied your mind at the moment. So, for me it is a good place and whatever I might post there, can be off topic, too early for most or too late for many.

Have another hit!
Fresh Air.
It cannot be measured how much I love that song. And this lyrical masterpiece:
A lot of folks are probably working during the weekdays... so hard to get by a lot of times. I just can't commit to being here to host threads really, or I would offer.

Not so much on the bass side, more like woodwinds.

late good evening
Just back from a Bernie meeting. They have decided that Global Heating is the number one issue. Yay. I am torn. I think it will be a miracle if he gets the nomination. I have not faith in the system. Time is short regardless. I also think he is the best chance we have with the caveat that I have little faith in the so called government. I refuse to give money to the cause and have little time. The day has flown. Thanks for the OT and all you do and your good energy q. Appreciate it. Peace.

Tesla
Although I am deaf now, I wasn't always. I could hear in the '80s; I was a teenager then.
The very first concert I went to was Tesla. I can still remember them dragging a toilet on stage which the lead singer sat on while he sang their ballad, "Love Song". I can't remember a lot of their songs, there are 3 that I can still hear in my head - Signs, Love Song, and this one...
[video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZvFj-KPik0g]
Listen to it for me, especially the slide guitar. I would so love to hear it again.
I loved that band so much that I wanted to learn about the man that they got their name from. I am glad I did. He was an awesome man.
Thanks all for the encouragement folks
Keeping it open for now, perhaps develop another approach. More suited to encouraging an open dialog?
Will endeavor to bring in a blender next time
Zionism is a social disease
Enjoyed your ramble, QMS.
And would like to add my appreciation for your hosting open threads.
In daily open theads, conversations take flight some days and on others hosts sit idly by like waiting for a desired date to call, comments to come; very unpredictable and disheartening at times.
As you write, a few regulars help keep daily conversations from being a bust; but we've lost at least a handful of those folks built up over time and newcomers to the site don't seem to participate very much; maybe they're not aware OT's exist, although the column view of comments should prompt a curious person to open a thread. I dunno.
From the get-go, imo, OT's have served in building a sense of community; but, perhaps i'm wrong about that and the majority of members just prefer a platform to express their opinions and not be bothered by common social interests.
Thank you for being here.
Late to the Party, but, I 'thank you,' too, QMS--
and, hope that once we get retirement plans ironed out, I'll have more time to participate in the OTs. (One drawback for me, is that by time I normally get to log in--mid- to late-afternoon--most folks have left for the day.)
Of course, I'm sorta a one-trick pony when it comes to issues. So, try not to go overboard, and spoil all the OTs with 'news' about the various Medicare 'reform' proposals. Instead, save that dreary news for good ol' Joe--just kidding, Joe!
I may want to 'borrow' one of the quotes you posted, if you've no objection. As you may have noticed, I like to include a few in my sig line.
Here's a link to an uplifting story, especially, for animal/bird lovers,
I am particularly grateful to these Open Threads, since Dems are leading the charge to shut down (or censor to the point, that it's useless) social media.
I was going to adopt one of my Twitter Accounts to advocate for 'amending' Traditional Medicare--IOW, using it to expand medical coverage to everyone, but, with the current Facebook, Twitter and Google crackdowns, I figure it would do no good. It's been shocking to me, to see that they relish shutting down opposing voices. It's downright scary.
Anyhoo, I'm looking for another social media platform. I hope, and expect, more to develop soon, in order to get around this trend. Of all things, Dem Senator Mark Warner, who made a fortune from Nextel (I think)--a communications company--is leading this effort.
Hey, have a good one!
