Tag, You're It: Learning How To Use Tags Effectively
Good morning my dear friends. There's an awesome, ahem, feistiness here this morning, very cool. Being from the 70s, the only tag I know of is the childhood game. I'm trying to learn how to use them better. For a number of reasons that might help our own article-writing skills and also help site effectiveness in terms of search, cross-linking, finding community and so forth. More below. Also, Allan Sherman. Just saying.
Speaking of favourite childhood memories.
What are the topics - in tags - that you are most interested in here on c99?
Here's my list, just at random, but sorta semi-classified:
activism, resilience, sustainability, self-sufficiency, skills-building, local, renewable, climate,
consciousness, spirituality, art, beauty, music, art, humor,
Canada, politics,
veterans, mental health,
Personal effectiveness:
I've gone over my articles and tried to improve their tags with the list above. My hope is that I would gain some consistency in tagging my articles, so that readers could see more clearly the article themes (in case I bollocksed up my case, eh :=)
JtC, could we have a spot on our personal info page for the tags we focus on most? Anywhere, like use one of the existing boxes like Interests (I put my favourite tags there). Then new folks could see what interests others the most. More personal connectivity and small community building, eh.
Tags would help with search and cross-linking, I think, but I'm clueless how. You folks know better.
I look forward to hearing what you think.
Peace be with us, if we use tags to find community and relevant information (usual disclaimer: if I knew how, I wouldn't write about it :=)

Is "curmudgeon" a good tag?
Curmudgeon is a fine, fine tag :=) I could "No Filter" for me!

I was going to use...
"misanthrope" but it wouldn't be a hot link so nobody could click on it.

Thanks Gerrit
This was the motivation I needed to go back and clean up my tags to be something useful, rather than just checking a box.

Hi Gerrit...
I may be able to implement something similar to what your requesting. I'll look into it, but I have to tell you I'm very busy right now and may not get to it for a while.
WHAT?
I've been sitting at this table for 3 BLOODY HOURS, and you haven't even given me a MENU! Service in this place is to BLOODY LOUSY, that I am going to leave a really REALLY lousy review on Yelp. I bet the burgers don't even taste good here.
Bah.
No worries, JtC: placing tags in the Interest box works. Good
luck - I can imagine, you'd be swamped. This joint is jumping. Best wishes,
