Last night I had the opportunity to see first hand once again, how evil the system is.

My significant other got a call that her friend was sitting in a parking lot sobbing. Apparently, she and her husband had been pulled over, and her husband who was traveling with her had failed to properly complete a piece of paperwork. I will not go into what that piece of paperwork was, or who had jurisdiction over that paperwork, at least not yet. All I know is that a friend is hurting because of paperwork. Sobbing, crying and shaking. No idea what was going on. Horrified to find that her support system, her husband, was taken from her, and she was left with nothing more than a pig's business card.

I had already had an extremely long and emotionally trying day, including a lovely public flashback, but all of that vanished as I immediately snapped into crisis mode. I was faced with two people who had no idea what to do, because the system had removed all certainty, and all lifelines on a Saturday night, when everybody was busy. My traumatized friend could barely speak. All she could do was blame herself for getting pulled over.

I say this because this is how the system kills. It isolates, then confuses, and ultimately demands ultimate submission. I was there when the ransom demand from the pigs came in. They demanded 250 bucks, or they wouldn't let him go. Since nobody directly involved was in a condition to think rationally, I had to make the calls and talk to pigs. I kept my cool, despite the urge to punch every fucking pig in the face. I pulled out every bit of military discipline, walking this sobbing woman into the Police department, getting all of the information I could.

That's when I learned that we'd been lied to. First they demanded the money. Then after a little prodding it was revealed that we might not have to pay if he passed a recognizance. Of course, that would take a few hours, which we could bypass if we just paid. Of course, the bail hearing won't be till Monday, even if he passes the recognizance interview. (Which of course he didn't because the paperwork was for the court, and the burden of proof that the proper paperwork was filed is on the victim of the pig's kidnapping.) This was the point I had to be an asshole to my friend.

She's flat broke. All she wanted was her husband. I had to explain to her quietly, and calmly, that she could not pay the ransom. Even if she paid it, her husband would still have to be on court on Monday, and paying would do nothing to end the problem. Today we'll be paperwork hunting to prove that it was an error.

I took my SO's friend home, got her situated on my couch, and went to bed around 2 Am this morning. I woke up, made game plans for how we're going to fight the pigs, made breakfast and kept focused. I'm angry. I will continue to be angry. This is the system that voting will NOT change.

I will not let my friend face the inverted pyramid alone. No matter what else, you must remember that this was done because of PAPERWORK. Are your papers in order?
