Love the Carters singing that one ,but that is sure a good version.

lost youth, a bit more uptempo, however, and not sure if the lyrics wee all the same. I was off searching for a West Virginia bookend when my wifi got as feeble as Biden will be 3 years from now, Ha, finally --

@enhydra lutris
Well, you know how embellishing old trad folk music is. If you listen past the intro in that cut I posted, the tempo is close to the original, but I do confess to liking the tempo a little faster in that song as well.
I was looking for the John Hartford/Pat Burton/Benny Martin version of East Virginia Blues/Greenback Dollars from the Slumberin' on the Cumberland album but couldn't find it. It is a bit more uptempo and one of my favorite cuts of that old tunage.

they should've with the line-up they had, I never could really figure out why.
All those Butterfields are just one LP - a long time favorite, but I couldn't find a straight up album that played straight through on you tube. So all you have to do is find it online and listen while working or relaxing or hwenever you've got 90 minutes that you needn't be fully focused on.
be well and have a good one.
butterfields!
but i'll add (also east meets west) one of my faves. the LBJ intro knocks my socks off....

in which this music would resonate, since I spent my youth listening to that genre with no choice. Forced upon me, I tell ya! I rebelled! Went rock to opera on their asses! Showed them!
But I have this guy friend that can suggest I have a beer, then sweet talk me into moods, acceptance, etc..., so I intend to discuss this, share, get back with you.
Now, el, if he doesn't like this genre, there is little hope! If he does, I expect magic.
Hope you are well, and that sheltering in hasn't made you as weird as it has me!

but which Genre? The first is east coast jazz versus west coast jazz, very different in isolation at the time of the recording, and Butterfield is just straight up blues except the title cut which is a fusion type thing.

Here's East Coast Jazz, ala Monk, note all the dissonance and timing skips:
West coast, smooth or cool jazz, was just that, think Brubeck or Miles Davis' complete birth of the cool, Mulligan played with both, here's a sample

#3.1 I couldn't make that genre distinction!
