Sometimes Bernie is too damn collegial! SMH

Zephyr Teachout had a oped at The Guardian that I tend to agree with.

A portion of which.

It looks like “Middle Class” Joe has perfected the art of taking big contributions, then representing his corporate donors at the cost of middle- and working-class Americans. Converting campaign contributions into legislative favors and policy positions isn’t being “moderate”. It is the kind of transactional politics Americans have come to loathe.

There are three clear examples.

First, Biden’s support for finance over working-class Americans. His career was bankrolled by the credit card industry. He delivered for it by spearheading a bankruptcy bill that made it harder for Americans to reduce their debts and helped cause the financial crisis. He not only authored and voted for that bill, he split with Barack Obama and led the battle to vote down Democratic amendments.His explanations for carrying water for the credit card industry have changed over time. They have never rung true.

The simplest explanation is the most likely: he did it for his donors. At a fundraiser last year, Biden promised his Wall Street donors that “nothing would fundamentally change” for them if he became president. Now the financial world is raising huge money for his campaign. It clearly thinks he’s going to be its friend if elected. Most Americans, who get ripped off by the financial sector on a daily basis, aren’t looking for a candidate who has made their life harder.

So how does Bernie respond to this?

https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/479084-sanders-apologizes-to-biden...

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) apologized to former Vice President Joe Biden (D) Sunday night after an op-ed by a Sanders campaign surrogate published in The Guardian accused Biden of corruption.

The Vermont senator told CBS News that he regretted the message published by Sanders surrogate Zephyr Teachout, who does not hold an official role with the campaign but has endorsed and introduced the senator at his rallies.

"It is absolutely not my view that Joe is corrupt in any way. And I'm sorry that that op-ed appeared," Sanders told the news channel.

@Wally

Can't they just change people's party registrations and boot them off the voting rolls and shut down voting locations like last time?

The issue is the meaning of "corrupt". Sanders usage is that it means crooked and Teachout's is that it's contrary to the essence of democracy. If Teachout had just deleted that word from her oped there wouldn't have been this sticking on the different meanings. Of course, without the brouhaha the oped would probably have remained unknown.

To get along in the Congress, one can't call the business-as-usual types "corrupt" since there are so many. To do so on the campaign trail would devolve into total war and would likely drive off voters needed for the general. Negative campaigning suppresses the vote as HRC can attest (actually it wasn't her fault, according to an exalted source, herself).

@humphrey Who's being divisive? Who is helping Trump win? Who is aiding and abetting in the destruction of our democracy? Who is a Putin stooge? What's fair in love and war?

Can't imagine that he has many dedicated lower income supporters.I bet this was sent to Biden's big money donors as the campaign is afraid.
