SNAP-TO DRESSER
I suppose most people know that Hillary wore the same outfit to the (first?) Democratic debate that she wore when meeting the Goldman-Sachs CEO in 2014 – a golden yellow, high-collar, somewhat Oriental thing that I call her Early Chinga Dynasty outfit. That's Chinga as in “Chinga a sus madres”.
Well, she wore it again for her Cameo appearance as De Blasio's “homegirl!” at the NY political writer's Inner Circle Show. The vid of the full Shamilton skit she was in is long, but I wish everyone that voted for her in the southern States had to watch it. An offensive parody of a come-to-life, concrete black hitching-post boy goes inside the mansion and tries to explain the songs the field-Negroes are singing, out dere on de plantation, to De Blasio. Worse than listening to a frightened Yankee down South, miss-using “Ya'll” and cracking jokes about watermelon and grits. And the worst is yet to come. Worth watching:

Hillary's performance aside, what haunts me is, “Why that particular dress again?” All of us have outfits, or just particular shirts or skirts or plaid shorts, that we hesitate to wear somewhere, because people will be there who were at the Zero-defects Meeting or the Superbowl party, etc? The idea that the most focus-group controlled, dog-whistle conscious, wardrobe-available politician in the world would not know that people will recognize that outfit is inconceivable.
Who does not remember Bill wearing Monica's tie for a televised Rose Garden speech the day she testified before Starr's “investigation”?
Who is Hillary signaling to, somewhere in the ozone between Wall Street and China? Is that really a Geisha Girl costume, signaling “I belong to you. Every wish is my command”

Saw this theory on the Kossacks for Sanders subReddit
It's entirely possible that Hillary deliberately wears clothes that are unflattering and attention getting, so the conversation is redirected to what she's wearing (and the inevitable "SEXIST!!!!!" blowback) instead of the horrific policies she's championing.
It's a big club...and you ain't in it!
interesting theory.
whatever the motivation, she certainly proves the old adage about money not buying good taste
It is not like we don't know ALL THESE FOLKS (save one)
employ at least one stylist, one make-up, one hairdresser at all times. Who would ever recommend mustard yellow as a flattering color for anyone?
Being coached by BdB for comedic pause is also special.

Hillary's best color is red
She was wearing a red outfit a couple of months ago when she won one of the primaries, and that outfit was flattering on her. It sets off her hair, and the contrast is good.
Yellow blends in with her hair, so there's not enough contrast, and it all blends in to make her look like a blob of mustard.

I, for one, like that outfit
I'd like to see her go more Mod but at least this isn't as boring as the blue pants suit.
i'm pretty sure she has one just like it in red.
that particular shade of yellow isn't flattering to blondes--but maybe that's what shill was going for(?)--who knows. the clintons are weird.
I don't want to start a big academic throwdown, but I
believe that style of textile is in fact from the Middle Cha-ching Dynasty.

Racist snark
Tell ya the truth, I find the association of some vaguely Asian style clothes and a supposed Asian female submissive stereotype to be offensive. Like if it has something Asian about it, she must be flaunting some Geisha ethic whateverthefuck that is, and I look more like a Geisha in my cowpunk outfit than she does in the gold jacket. Knock it off!
I don't really like to judge people's outfits
in general - but I will say I actually like her in that outfit - as much as its possible for me to like her in anything.
I think the yellow-ness of it makes her skin look more rosy, and maybe that's the whole point of why it gets recycled.
I love yellow, but I can't wear it, its makes me look weird - but in those pics, it is good for her complexion.
i disagreed with your analysis upthread :)
like they say...that's what makes the world go 'round.
I don't care what she wears.
Really! It still gets me that men's appearance is rarely commented on, etc., so although I don't want to vote for her, I defend her right to wear Romulan clothing if she so chooses.
I think she likes
the gold, it matches her golden handcuffs. I agree with the above comments however about this being a distraction and sexist. I don't give a damn what she wears as long as it's not a crown. Beat's the ugly pants suits which seem to say I may be a woman but I wear the pants in this family cause I'm a bad ass. She has creepy ideas about what being a feminist means and the pants suits remind me that her definition of women's issues are all about power and success and breaking corporate glass ceilings for power and profit.
disclaimer:
No, no, sensitive and politically correct comrades. I was not being snarky about her outfit in any way. What I am musing about is why she wears the same outfit on these "behind closed doors" occasions. Wondering if she wore it when she gave those G-S speeches....
BTW - the Asian influence was meant to be associated with possible Chinese Trade Deal elites and the Geisha reference was to reflect her bond with (or to) Special Interest donors. Jest tryin' to have me some fun. My sister's a Nun! Give me a break. Check your shoulders for chips.....

Yeah,..I got a chip on my shoulder...
Don't say PC. It's a defense Donald Trump uses when he's caught with his pants down.
you do realize that "politically correct" was a phrase
coined by the left as gentle self-mockery, right?

Yeah
You mean sorta like the n-word? Don't mock yourself or me for our beliefs.
I wasn't being sensitive
in my remark above, lol. I was making a snarky dig at her style, maybe it was too subtle? A Star Trek fan knows that Romulans wear stiff, aggressive clothing made from upholstery fabric. Almost every time I see her I think of Romulans, not just the yellow outfit (which I sort of like).
I have been out of the loop for a while but maybe that's what dress-for-success women are wearing these days? My younger sister (in her 50's) has an outfit made from fabric exactly like a couch I had in 1976, yes, it is that bad, and it does make her look like a Romulan commander.
No chips on shoulders here, just extra padding. Please don't hesitate to be humorous or snarky in the future, we need that here and we certainly don't want to suppress people's expression.
Its ok
to have fun too!
seriously?
we're talking about clothes?
Seriously? Clothes?
This is beneath us.

Not clothes per se
One more thought on this. OK, two more thoughts.
We all know that nothing the Clintons do is not calculated in some way. I am not satisfied, completely, by the theory that the outfit in question is chosen to solicit misogynistic remarks, which women will defend, obfuscating the real issues in an estrogen-fueled cloud of “poor Hillary!”. That said, one could cite this post as an example of just that.
Wearing the same, unmistakable outfit, or even a tie, is something we all think about before we go into a situation attended by people who will no doubt recognize it. In our culture, this is much worse for women than men – but men feel the social pressure too. The reason we hesitate to wear that same plaid jacket to The Smith's party is because it sez: “Aha! He has exhausted his 'dress-up' wardrobe! He has shot-off his full magazine!”
Please excuse masculine imagery....
So, the only thing I can come up with is: Hillary's outfit was chosen because people in the sub-100 grand a year bracket know what it's like to have nothing to wear to the meeting or party but that same old gold thing. It says “I'm not really that rich. I'm one of you.” Connotations of Middle-class struggle to get ahead? (insert sound of crickets)
Enough of this. Back to the ol' Intro to Social Psychology book......

What she wears and when she wears it is part of the message she
sends. Colors have emotional connections. Red = Passionate, Aggressive, Important. Orange = Playful, Energetic. Yellow = Happy, Friendly. Green = Natural, Prosperous. Blue = Serene, Trustworthy. Purple = Luxurious, Mysterious, Romantic.
Stylists know this and she has at least one, who advises her and shops for her as well. My first thought when I saw the skit with my suck-up mayor was that she needs to burn that damn Goldman-Sacks Jacket. It like she keeps shoving them in our faces. Second thought: Her stylist must be feelin' the Bern.
