Saturday Open Thread 10/10/26: Odds and Ends

Good morning, friends! Hope all is well with y'all!
I am writing this pre-concert while I have time.
I probably will not be able to respond to comments until late afternoon.
I was bragging about the safety and cleanliness of this cheap motel, but that was before we discovered the faucet is broken in the shower. I am pissed. However, I recall the mantra my globe hopping travel pal said: "With travel, it's always something!
Ok,the manager showed up and jerked on the faucet and unstuck it. JtC was afraid he would have jerked it out of the wall.
Ok. I can brag about the cheap motel. No homeless folks around, no drugs being dealt, no prostitutes plying their trade, and a shower that works. More money to spend at the gift shop.
I haven't skimmed news of any sites, so I ask that you all drop in anything you deem fit to share with your friends here.
Let 'er rip!

Hope it is fun. Isais seems to be headed toward Lookout.
Hope he is safe back at home by now.
One interesting headline is Putin is playing the donnie out
on a line about releasing diesel for export. The only problem
is if that oil does get out (if Ukraine doesn't blow it up), it will
take several weeks before arriving stateside. That means the
price of diesel will remain sky high past the 'midterms'. Seems
trumpet and Rubio are betting the farm on the "after the midterms'
gamut to try and mitigate the damage in the polls during the lead up.
Too little, too late IMO.
Thanks for posting the O&E.

Good morning, Cap'n!
Darrell Scott. He dazzled the crowd with his musicianship. Electric, acoustic guitars, and piano. Nice guy, friendly, and maybe we can post the picture taken with him this evening.
We will be on the road for 5 hours, so see ya then.
I hope we hear good news from Lookout!

Yes, we made it home...
...on Thursday, and it was a wild trip. Bumper to bumper traffic on the interstate often at 35 MPH. We got off the intestate above Montgomery, and cruised home on the back roads. Rained all night last night, about 2" in the gauge. Sporadic rains today with bouts of wind gust. However, our power is still stable.
The day before we left, the kitchen sink drain started leaking. We have a double sink so I cut off that side till we left. So yesterday was taken up getting that repaired. After almost 40 years it was difficult getting the old pieces out and the new pieces in, but success at last. Why is it things seem to go wrong just before a trip?
At least we're getting a much needed rain. Hope y'all are doing well and having a good weekend! Thanks for the OT!

Great news, Lo!
I have lived through 4 hurricanes that went right through Houston to me, 45 miles north.
Boarded up windows, extra food, ready to jump into the most interior bathtub with a mattress over me.
Have driven in designated escape routes, know what you went through getting back home.
Iirc, you needed the rain, just not the wind gusts. Congrats on your power staying on.
Finding replacement parts for your sink repair was likely "interesting".
Well, I know you are glad to be home, as we are here!
Take care, friend!

Hola, amiga!
JtC posted that you 2 would be hearing good live tunes this weekend. However, not bluegrass which I love. I'm going to the flicks to see a Queen live performance, today. It was shot in Budapest. I'm assuming @Lookout lives in AL. We dodged a major bullet with Isaias. Pensacola area got some minor damage and power outage. Nothing major, whew! We Floridians take these storms seriously, and yes, we get them in October. And now, with both the EPA and FEMA decimated.... Citizen outrage got the NHC and NOAA somewhat restored. Well, that's the latest storm report. You 2 try not to get in too much trouble (heh-heh).
Stay safe! Rec'd!!
Inner and Outer Space: the Final Frontiers.
Ola. chica!
Peope around here were encouraged to get FEMA to help with that last big flood that screwed up homes all over the area. Maybe a year ago?
The first concert was Dallas Moore. If he sang a George Jones song, his voice intonation changed. He sort of changed his voice and guitar twang with every cover he did. I requested he sing a Neil Young tune, and he did, and he sounded a lot like Young. So, he is country when the crowd requests it.
As for Darrel Scott, his playing drifted around country, to Outlaw country, to gospel, to...rock!
The hurricane resulted in 4 deaths, according to this afternoon Google News headlines. Not too many, but 4 tragedies for 4 families is 4 too many.
We lucked out here, probably didn't even get rain.
Well, here we are, so that's great!

Good morning otc. Hope you have a great time. The
Aussies say they won't buy Russkie diesle, regardless of Trumps actions. Too bad for them, I suspect, but whatever.
The Brits just bagged two Latvians inside the perimeter of a different RAF base used by the US, RAF Molesworth, but doesn't think they are related to the suspected plannewd terrorist attack that never happened at RAF Fairford, The article doesn't shed any light onwhat, exactly, a mole is worth.
that's all I got so far, but have only checked the SCMP.
be well and have a goodf one
That, in its essence, is fascism--ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or by any other controlling private power. -- Franklin D. Roosevelt --
Good evening, el!
I traveled to Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland. Anti-Russian, but one country out of the 4 was finally figuring out that USSR is not capitalist Russia, and was softening its' rhetoric. It may have been Latvia.
Anyway, the RAF base is a target for hysterical rumors, not some terrorist act. I hope we move on from it soon.
The traffic flowed much better coming home than going to The Hill Country. It is always fascinating to go from Piney Woods to Oaks to Mesquite in 5 hours' drive. Logging, hay fields, Tesla plant, to cattle ranches.
As for Aussies, if a stupid mistake can be made easily, they lead the pack.
I haven't kept up with the news in 3 days. I am guessing there are no improvements to any dire situations anywhere in the world. I hope I am wrong.
Take care, friend!

IDEA: The US takes delivery of a huge amount of its
oil imports via a hub offshore Pascagoula. The Rus should load up about 4 tankers worth, assemble a small flotilla of surface warships to protect them from European pirates and head off toward Pascagoula. At the appropriate time they should divert to Cuba.

That's a great idea!
Dog knows they need it at this point. A slap in the face of US
tariffs and blockades is just what the doctor ordered. And what
could the US do about it? Nada. Too busy waging war elsewhere.

Hey, humphrey!
I would like to lock Trump in a room with a desk, chair, piece of paper, and a pen. Then, tell him he is free when he writes down his definition of "peace". Free, to walk among us, or free to walk into prison.
