(This should ruffle some DNC feathers): Bernie Sanders Launches Marijuana Petition
This is interesting. Big Pharma’s got to be upset. It was a Dim that handed them a captive clientele during the healthcare coverage hearings. Now the DNC’s sheepdog is calling for legalization of pot.
Bernie Sanders Launches Marijuana Petition
U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) is asking his supporters to pressure Congress to legalize marijuana and end the broader “war on drugs.”
In an email sent to the former (and possibly future) presidential candidate’s campaign e-mail list on Wednesday night, the senator wrote that the federal government’s anti-cannabis approach is “an issue of grave consequence.”
Citing racial disparities in enforcement, Sanders said that “marijuana prohibition is part of a larger failed war on drugs that has led to the great national crisis of mass incarceration.”
He’s asking supporters to sign an online petition calling on federal lawmakers to treat drugs as a health issue instead of a crime and “invest in programs that focus on treatment and prevention.”
*
“Let’s have states decide the issue of marijuana for themselves like they do with alcohol,” he wrote. “More and more states are moving in the direction of decriminalization. Let them make those decisions without federal interference.”

That means that that patent the government obtained on cannabinoids in 2003 would be useless. Personally I believe the entire reason for that patent was to benefit Big Pharma. To give them ownership and control ovet pot by claiming ‘patent rights’’. The problem has been that publicly the feds have claimed there are NO medical/social benefits to be derived from pot. Their patent proves they’ve been lying.
This just cracks me up! Good thing Sanders didn’t pull this while he was ‘campaigning’ for the Dim nomination. Can you picture The Clinton Creature up on the stage telling people that she too supports legalization (rather than reclassifying
it as a Schedule II drug)? Now the next Dim nominee, if it’s someone other than Sanders, will have to deal with the complication of Sanders call for legalization. That should be interesting.

Some of us on here worked this guy's campaign.
He's neither a "sheepdog" nor a "sell out." This latest initiative illustrates that fact. Y'know?
Inner and Outer Space: the Final Frontiers.
in
the spring of 2016 he said if he were a resident of the state he would vote for the initiative that subsequently passed there, legalizing marijuana in California. That initiative was supported by the California Democratic Party.
Cory Booker last year introduced legislation that would legalize marijuana nationwide; this year it was also introduced in the House, by Barbara Lee and Ro Khanna.
Last fall, for the first time, a majority of even Republicans said they supported legalization.
Bernie Has A Few Critics Here
And supporters as well. My biggest complaint is his support for the MIC:

Bernie has ruffled a few feathers for . . . well being a politician and being too accommodating to political pressure from the Hillary/New Dems/Blue Dog wing of the party.
There's a fine line between hard nosed pragmatic retreat and capitulation. We have a lot of disillusioned Berniacs here, but Bernie has certainly initiated a genuinely transformative progressive movement. A big concern a lot of us have is that Bernie's efforts will fall short of reforming the Neoliberal Dem Establishment and result in enabling a continuation of the destructive Third Way Centrism/Republican light policies of the DNC.
On the plus side Bernie is a scrapper and the most popular politician in America. Give em hell Bernie!
"They'll say we're disturbing the peace, but there is no peace. What really bothers them is that we are disturbing the war." Howard Zinn
I worked it
and still consider him a sheepdog and a sellout. There is nothing, I repeat nothing he can say or do to make me consider otherwise. His unwavering support of of her and his blatant russian did it propaganda will not be forgotten. The dims will never change from within.
Regardless of the path in life I chose, I realize it's always forward, never straight.
You call the guy who’s trying to rope
everyone back into supporting the DNC what? Honest?
I am appalled by his TOTAL acceptance of this RUSSIA! lie and the lack of any words regarding the horrific mess we’re in BECAUSE of Clinton and DNC trying to pull off a soft coup. He is supporting their attempt to delegitimize the presidency of the buffoon who fairly WON the election. That is the most shameful and dangerous stunt ever pulled by a politician or political party in this country’s history. And Sanders is a willing participant.

The guy that hasn’t said ONE WORD about the cheating, lying, and name calling by the Clinton Creature and the DNC. Not in regard to himself OR the people who gave him their hard earned and oft-times much needed money because we trusted him. Not a word about how we got locked out of the election. That is another thing that has gone completely unacknowledged (i WAS one of them as well so you aren’t the only person here who supported the guy). You would think he’d be pissed because TCC bought the DNC in 2015 and he and WE never had a chance of winning. But it’s apparent that he’s fine with it.
He had his shot. He told everyone there was a better way and he was going “all the way to Philly” and then folded like a cheap suit when taken to task by Barack Obama and Harry Reid way before the nominations convention. All the way to Philly? What a farce. There’s an old phrase I first heard as a kid and it describes Sanders perfectly. He’s ‘all show and no go’. I don’t believe much of anything he says. I’m just amused by this latest stunt of his and the position he’s put the Party of Clinton in. He makes great speeches and that pretty much it. If he truly were a man who believed what he said, we wouldn’t be listening to him pander for the corporate controlled Turd Way neo-liberal DNC.

Well said, Amanda
You summed up my thoughts exactly. The Russian stuff was the last straw.
Scientists are concerned that conspiracy theories may die out if they keep coming true at the current alarming rate.
Bernie Sanders
Some here will classify him as a "sheepdog" or a "sell out" so long as he has anything to do with the Democratic Party or supports the existence of the US Military at all.
The State of which he is Senator, Vermont, is heavily dependent on military spending. And the Duopoly is still quite securely in place.
One man can only fight so many battles at one time; else he loses the whole war.

Sorry, but for me
And as Amanda pointed out, not one complaint from him on just how his own supporters were blatantly screwed over. He took our dollars and said not one word when those were simply ripped off from us.

Patent
The patent you mention -US6630507- does not cover all cannabinoids. It is directed only to cannabinoids which do not bind to the NMDA receptor and which are non-psychoactive. It provides NO ownership and control over pot. Additionally, it expires in a year.
In any event, it is a clear admission of the potential medical benefits of cannabinoids.
my latest suggestion for a conspiracy theory
Pot is "legalized before the patent wears off, then the patent is renewed, and all the "beneficial" uses fpr pot are now privatized. Then the states are free to ban non medical use.

Actually, 'the government' owns nothing; it's all public property which they are obligated to administer/maintain in the public interest. And TPTB're hoping that nobody points this out because they seem to have convinced so many that anyone (transiently) attaining a (perpetual) public office intended to serve the (perpetual) public interest somehow is granted ownership of what they're supposed to administrate and effectively over the people that they're supposed to administrate this for. A neat perceptual trick that enables the bandits to make out like robber barons.
Psychopathy is not a political position, whether labeled 'conservatism', 'centrism' or 'left'.
A tin labeled 'coffee' may be a can of worms or pathology identified by a lack of empathy/willingness to harm others to achieve personal desires.
“...it is a clear admission of the potential...”
That is allI i intended it to show.

I don't think big pharma cared much for Bernie before this.
He wants to take away their golden, blood spewing fountain of wealth.
Beware the bullshit factories.
Just think what they could make if they
had total control over cannabinoids. Big Pharma could do a Monsanto on anyone who was caught growing ‘their’ pot.

I think that legalizing it would be the right thing to do
There are still people in prison for a drug that is being legalized state by state, but don't just stop there. Legalize all drugs like Amsterdam has and watch drug use and crime go down. This isn't a war that can be won anyway, it's just another way for the Man to keep us down.
Scientists are concerned that conspiracy theories may die out if they keep coming true at the current alarming rate.
Depends who *they* are
That's just it... Are you so certain they really want crime and drug use go down?
There are a whole lot of folks getting quite wealthy due to the drug war. Stopping it isn't in the interest of their bottom line. Remember, these are capitalists we're talking about. Profits are at the head of the line. In many cases, there's nothing else.
Yep, The War on Drugs is second biggest reason
for the huge number of prisoners in this country:
