Is (s)he an "Injustice Collector" ?

This Essay I am copying verbatim from an anonymous Comment found on Lisa E. Scott's website here. I am doing this because the original posting, which is from 2009, is becoming harder and harder to find via search engines; so I hope that doing this will refresh the search engines' memory and keep this document handy, as it needs to be. What the alt-right mis-labels "SJWs" or "Social Justice Warriors" are really Injustice Collectors, as there is definitely such a thing as an honest Social Justice Warrior out there, But Injustice Collectors definitely aren't it!

Although the Commenter credits http://www.psychologytoday.com, I've failed to find this list there, either.

The original title was "Are They an 'Injustice Collector' ?". As I can't stand singular/plural pronoun disagreements, the title I'm using here on c99p is gramatically correct but otherwise the same title.

Here follows the original text.

Are They an 'Injustice Collector?'

Those of us who have grown up with an injustice collecting parent as well as those who are currently in a relationship with a person who's got a "bad" list that's endless, immediately recognize the Injustice Collector. Children who grow up with a parent that collects resentments have to resort to people pleasing to survive. Somehow people pleasers and injustice collectors are often attracted to one another.

These are among the most challenging scenarios to work with in therapy. If you're wondering if you or your partner or your child or parent are injustice collectors, read the characteristics of people like this. If this person is in your life, you'll readily find them identified in the list below. (just a few traits are needed)

Characteristics of Injustice Collectors

1. Injustice collectors are never wrong. How is it possible that they are never wrong? It's simple: They are always right.

2. Injustice collectors never apologize. Ever. For anything.

3. Injustice collectors truly believe they are morally and ethically superior to others and that others seem incapable of holding themselves to the same high standards as the injustice collector does.

4. Injustice collectors make the rules, break the rules and enforce the rules of the family. They are a combination of legislator, police, judge and jury to those they consider their subjects. They forever banish from their kingdom any subject they deem disloyal, and only grant clemency if there is sufficient (in their eyes) contrition.

5. Injustice collectors never worry about what is wrong with them as their "bad" list grows. Their focus is always on the failings of others.

6. Injustice collectors are never troubled by the disparity between their rules for others and their own expectations of themselves. Injustice collectors rationalize their own behavior with great ease and comfort.

7. Injustice collectors have an external orientation; the problem always exists in the world, outside of themselves, and in their view, the world would be an acceptable place if their rules and standards were followed at all times.

8. Injustice collectors do not have a capacity for remorse, empathy or guilt.

9. Injustice collectors scoff at the idea of therapy, therapists, self-help books, and other tools used by people who struggle to live with them.

10. The phrase "walking on eggshells" describes life with an injustice collector.

11. The IC (injustice Collector) will prey upon your weaknesses to frame all issues in their terms.

12. IC's will always cry foul when you are 'mean' to them and accuse you of being nasty when you are confronting them with their negative behavior.

13. They are titanically insecure and cannot trust anyone. All relationships they have, even with their own parents and children and trustless and must be reinforced by subordination over and over.

14. They can only strengthen relationships through imprisoning their mates and banning behaviors and other relationships. Friends and family are a huge threat to the IC.

15. They must repetitively revisit situations where you service them, give in to them and agree with them. They will over time shrink your world to a small plot of empty activities that only they like. They are terrified of travel, meeting new people, understanding new concepts and paroling you from any punishment they have previously 'convicted' you of.

16. They do not care about you at all, they care about aggrandizing themselves with you as an assistant producer.

17. They will occasionally do something for you, but if you are not completely brainwashed, it will be a negative experience for you in the end. Example is throwing you a birthday party. I guarantee you will not have fun at your own party.

18. They will force you to choose between them and other things you like or love. The more you choose them, the more they will make you choose them over and over. They do not understand the concept of loyalty at all.

19. Hypocrisy is their modus operandi for debating and arguing with you. Everything they say about you is true about them. (aka Projection) It makes it so you try to 'win' fights by getting them to agree with you, which they never can because their whole position is false.

20. Your life will disappear into their lives. Your hopes and dreams will fade, even in your own mind. You will eat what they want, you will watch what they want on TV, you will vacation where they want, or not at all.

There is no justice. There can be no peace.

Any Adult Child Of Alcoholics finds it all *very* familiar which suggests that Injustice Collection is a kind of addiction (and/or that many/most alcoholics are also Injustice Collectors).

Narcissism, of which Injustice Collecting is symptomatic, can be as addictive as cocaine or heroin. And I'm an Adult Child of Alcoholics myself, so that might explain why I snagged onto this document so hard!

Thanks for keeping this in the public eye. So important to understand the motives behind changing the dialogue to suit the controllers. It's the same with dysfunctional relationships across the spectrum: media, politicians, law enforcement, military, money changers ad infinitum. The family of man.

So many of the characteristics are what have made my life with him so very difficult. He still brings up shit I did as a child.

The phrase "walking on eggshells" describes life with an injustice collector.

The no empathy is dead on. My mom died two years ago and there is no room for my sorrow. It's only his pain that matters. He is the only one who is alone and suffering with her absence even though I lost my brother who was my best friend and my older brother who lost his son. I can not ever bring up my brother's name because SD hated him something fierce. Plus he was a so jealous of his and mom's relationship. He is sooo very lonely because he is the only one who lost mom. Not once has he asked me how I was doing with her being gone.

He constantly brings up things that I did as a child and his list is endless with everything that "I've screwed up" since then. If I asked for help it came with a very high price for years. Last year his birthday was on Father's Day and I forgot. I've heard about that 4 times since then.

I think there's some borderline personality disorder going on here on top of being an IC.

Thanks so much for posting this. It gives a lot of insight into how he sees the world. Negativity has to be part of the diagnosis because he bitches about every one. But behind their backs because he is a coward. Unless his personality splits which it has done a few times. All bets are off when that happens. I just shut up during those phases because he is also violent man. Fun times ...

Which AIPAC/MIC/pharma/bank bought politician are you going to vote for? Don’t be surprised when nothing changes.

I'm so sorry, snoop!

Goat, it seems I've struck some sore places here! For that, I apologize. But it's healing for
all of us to know we're not alone in this.

You have my love and support in all of this, snoopydawg.

Psychopathy is not a political position, whether labeled 'conservatism', 'centrism' or 'left'.

A tin labeled 'coffee' may be a can of worms or pathology identified by a lack of empathy/willingness to harm others to achieve personal desires.

i see a lot of this In modern republicans too

Now here's an irony indeed, as my usual use of this text is to argue against behaviors on that site supposedly dedicated to electing "more and better Democrats".....

Item 10, " The phrase "walking on eggshells" describes life with an injustice collector.", especiially applies to post-Ides Of March Decree Daily Kos......

But, since American conservatism boils down to "the politics of mean", this should come as no surprise.

@thanatokephaloides This some eye opening stuff. The amazing part of it is that as screwed up as it is, it works.

I have been wracking my brain as to how TOP could continue to operate during it's purge. From what I see there is detente between a number of single interest groups, fearful of losing their rightful place in any discussion. The rules of communication seem to go, depending upon the degree of alliance, " you have no right to discuss any subject that concerns me, I am the only expert of this group, you can only support me. I don't want to hear about you, I've heard enough of you and know everything about you that I want to know. Your needs do not concern me."

And this is the basis of the new democratic party.

The Pig Democrats claim to be against injustice yet stand idly by or worse, even support them when their side of the capitalist cabal is doing it. They were all lining up to fawn over Obama even when he was expanding the disastrous policies that have killed millions and displaced millions more while whining about (perceived) injustices here.

Modern education is little more than toeing the line for the capitalist pigs.

Guerrilla Liberalism won't liberate the US or the world from the iron fist of capital.

The same list is attributable to what is recently being diagnosed in some circles as "malignant narcissism" and/or "malignant egophrenia". Several different Native American tribes associate the same symptoms with the legendary "Wetiko" or "Wendigo". These legends became prevalent immediately following the appearance of the white man.

Wendigo also strongly resemble what Tibetans (Bön and Buddhist alike) know as "hungry ghosts". No matter how much they have or consume, they always need more. Being reborn as one is considered a punishment worse than being consigned to the Hell of the Christians. But even here, the Compassionate One, Avalokitesvara (blessed be (S)He), can hear and rescue the truly repentant.

Always has to put himself at the center of attention. Today's gong show: trade war with China. Only China punches back. So much for our "stable genius."

As for those of us whom the right wings calls SJW's, we consist of people who object to the racism, sexism, and homophobia from Trump supporters. Call me a Social Justice Warrior and I will say "thank you." Injustice collectors sound like those who crusade against imaginary enemies such as gluten, or cell towers, or Alex Jones' "Deep State." More of a nuisance than anything else.
