Schumer: $1.2 Billion in Trump Budget Must Go to NYC Housing

Excuse me, but this takes nerve. These people were willing to throw billions to Jeff Bezos but they can’t afford to fix up NYC housing. Why? No one gave a rat’s ass before this. New York has been run by Dims for decades. They weren’t all that upset before now. Oh wait...that’s right. Right now it’s fashionable to play like they give a damn about the plebs right now. And they’ve allowed slumlords like the the Trumps or Kushners operate at the expense of the poor for decades.

Schumer: $1.2 Billion in Trump Budget Must Go to NYC Housing

Sen. Chuck Schumer on Sunday demanded that the Trump administration earmark at least $1.2 billion in the federal budget for New York City's blighted public housing — the nation's largest.

The New York Democrat spoke at the Alfred E. Smith Houses on Manhattan's Lower East Side. Tenants say conditions in the city's more than 300 public housing complexes where 400,000 New Yorkers live are a health hazard - from mold and lead to holes in walls, rodents and lack of heat.
The senator said it's impossible to improve conditions without new federal funds.

The push for more money for New York comes on the heels of last month's agreement between the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the City of New York and the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA), giving the federal government the authority to oversee desperately needed improvements at NYCHA properties.

It’s not that I begrudge better housing for the poor. I grew up in the projects myself. But NYC could fine the slumlords they allow to screw the people stuck in these horrific housing conditions:

Let’s look at NYC slums...

City Will Pay $2 Billion To NYCHA After Probe Finds Officials Deceived Tenants And Regulators

The city has admitted to engaging in widespread neglect and systemic misconduct in managing the New York City Housing Authority, harming residents—including an untold number of children—in the process, while knowingly deceiving both tenants and outside inspectors about the extent of the danger.

On Monday, federal prosecutors filed an 80-page civil complaint accusing NYCHA's management of causing and exacerbating the suffering of "lead-poisoned children; elderly residents without heat in winter; asthma sufferers whose condition is worsened by moldy and pest-infested apartments; and disabled residents without functioning elevators." Their findings are the result of a wide-ranging investigation launched by former U.S. attorney Preet Bharara two years ago.

As a result of that investigation, the city has entered into a contract with the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York, in which the city agreed to provide an additional $1 billion in capital funds to NYCHA over the next four years. Once that amount has been paid out, the city will pay another $200 million annually for at least five years until a judge rules that the problems have been fixed. A court appointed federal monitor will oversee the ongoing work.

And the people de Bladio and Cuomo have allowed to collect rental fees for these slums:

Tina Turner said it oh so well...

The politicians have forgotten this place
Except for a flying visit in a black Mercedes
No election time
They cross the line
And everybody runs to watch the pantomime
If they could see what's going on around here
So many people hanging onto the edge
Crying out for revolution
Retribution
The odds turn out even
When you give up believing in the...

There is no reason why cities can't fine slumlords except some of them are banks that bought foreclosed homes and are now renting them out. Who's going to tell Jaimie Dimon that he has to follow the rules? lol!

The houses I looked at when I got a housing voucher were unfit to live in and yet they were available for people. The picture you used isn't even close to some of the houses I looked at.

The military housing is just as bad and they have to deal with black mold, rats and other conditions that make their homes unlivable. Trump is taking money from the repairs for his wall, but this didn't just happen on his watch.

The message echoes from Gaza back to the US. “Starving people is fine.”

If we weren't spending millions to incarcerate migrants, we'd be dumping them into situations like this. We treat our poor citizens like animals, and the dems act like pet hoarders who can't take care of the ones they have, but can't stop taking in more. They say "human rights abuses" and really mean...what? That they're being exploited in their home country, much better to exploit them here? The democrats believe that the government they've neglected is some how up to the task of fulfilling their lofty slogans.
