Every morning across the world people light the morning fire. I do, and I've been doing so most mornings of my adult life. Wood stoves are a very efficient way to burn wood if you have a house. I say "if" because a lot of people who start morning fires either don't live in houses or the houses are built only to give protection from wildlife, people, and rain. Those folks build campfire type fires. In cold climates like New Hampshire or Vermont a wood stove kind of burns along all day, one tosses in a chunk of wood now and again if the house starts getting a little cold and often in the morning one needs to start a new fire.

Yes there is soot, and gosh knows what gasses, but if you burn wood that is likely enough to simply rot on the forest floor, or often as I do diverted from the land fill, the carbon outlook is pretty good. The CO2 given up is given up anyway. You aren't adding CO2 to the atmosphere that has been locked up in rock, oil, or deep underground in gas.

What brought on this kind of long winded intro is this video that surfaced recently about poor Bernie Sanders coaxing a stove to life while someone took a video of him.[video:https://youtu.be/c64s9iQlHSA] I say poor as it looks like less than ideal conditions Senator Sanders is dealing with. Probably a stove in the mother in law cellar apartment someone lent his campaign for him to stay in. The wood situation doesn't look great either, no kindling, just some square dimensional lumber that's easy enough if you have some kindling to start it with, which I don't see, or an axe or hatchet or some doggone thing to split some off with.

It looks like from the vid that Bernie managed to get a piece lit nonetheless and is using the draft from the door to blow on it and to spread the flame. Even the double doors of the funky wood stove though great for leaving open and watching the fire kind of suck for getting a fire going.

I'd be willing to bet Bernie has lit a wood stove thousands of times.

Ideally someone would have gone there an hour before and lit the fire warming the place up, or at least deal with the fire while Sanders kicks back. Probably no one else knows how to light a wood stove. Kind of like the primary, only one real lefty willing and knows how to light a fire under the voting public.
