RoseAnn DeMorro to Dems: "This is my unification speech: IT'S A WARNING"

Finally, a major union leader and political activist, RoseAnn DeMorro, head of National Nurses United and a former Bernie supporter, lets Democrats know that the days of assuming activists will just fall in line behind whatever corrupt corporate Dem is on the Ticket are over. See her tweet with embedded video below:

I hope you can hear the video embedded in her tweet, but if not, she says outright to the Democratic Party that they should not assume that if the Dems just work to maintain the status quo and abandon progressive values that activists will back party candidates in the future. Earlier she she also specifically told Democrats to get on board with single payer health care or else.

I am grateful to her for that. Enough with the "fake unity crapola" we are being spoon fed by the Dem Establishment while they smear progressives and former Sanders' supporters for actually caring about doing right by the American people instead of just cashing their big money checks from lobbyists and wealthy donors. We don't need that kind of Democratic party, but it needs us, and if Democrats can't or won't support the policies and legislative proposals we demand and the majority of our fellow Americans support, then anyone who cares about those values and issues who previously supported the Dems should abandon them. Why stay in an abusive relationship with people who don't give a damn about ordinary people any longer?

Indeed, nowhere in my reading of the Constitution or the law does it say that the Democratic Party must survive or remain viable, or that we owe them our votes or our loayalty. If they want to continue being the Republican Lite party, let them try to win chasing after Republican voters. Good luck with that, Corporate Dems. We all saw the curtain pulled away last year because of Sanders' campaign against Hillary. All the corruption, all the big money donors getting whatever the hell they wanted, all the pissing on their supporters, we saw that. Change or die, Dems, change or die.

took the Democratic Party so far to the right and they became the new Republicans. The Republicans response was to go so far to their own right that they went insane.

RoseAnn DeMoro is 100% correct. The Dems need to get back to where they once belonged. Nevertheless, I'm completely convinced that Trump's incompetence/insanity/fraudulence will not be seen as a chance (or even a call) to move the party back to the party of FDR. Sadly, the Dems will see the anti-Trump wave as a fund-raising opportunity and nothing more.

I am sick of unions, PPH, and all the rest of them pandering, sucking up, and toeing the Democratic Party line no matter how badly their constituents get screwed. When I get pleas from PPH, I turn my back on them just like I finally turned my back on the lesser of evil vote. I'm done. Even inaction is action. Everyone makes their own bed, and now they can all lay in it as far as I'm concerned. I risked me and mine to vote for Jill Stein and will take my lumps with Trump. It is their turn.

@dkmich

Pardon me, but what is PPH? When I tried to look it up, I got:

PPH may refer to

Patent Prosecution Highway, a set of cooperation agreements between some patent offices
Permanent Private Hall, a type of educational institution affiliated to the University of Oxford
Postpartum hemorrhage
Pound per hour (symbol pph), mass flow unit (used in aviation to measure fuel flow, for instance)
Primary pulmonary hypertension, see Pulmonary hypertension
Procedure for prolapse and hemorrhoids, see Stapled hemorrhoidectomy
Palomar Pomerado Health, a public health district in San Diego County, California
Part per hundred (percentage)
People per hour, a measure of the rate of flow of people moving past a fixed point or through a system. (e.g. 237 people per hour went through the security checkpoint.)
PeoplePerHour, the business founded by Xenios Thrasyvoulou (CEO) and Simos Kitiris (CTO), its website (peopleperhour.com), or its applications.
Propylphenidate, a analogue of methylphenidate

Thank You, dkmich!

@Alligator Ed

Enough of the acronyms already. If they aren't in common knowledge, which this isn't, please have the courtesy to explain them.

Standard journalistic style throughout the English-speaking world is to spell out whatever-it-is once, followed immediately by the acronym in parentheses, with the acronym being acceptable for the rest of the document only. That way, a reader can look it up without having to go back and ask about it, while the writer gets to use the acronym as often as she wants after the first mention.

That is the sensible way to handle that problem.

The situation in discussions about such things as Scientology is a little different. There, the violation of the common-sense rule by the original authorities is so flagrant that whole glossaries have been published just to cover the acronyms alone.

Hey! my dear friends or soon-to-be's, JtC could use the donations to keep this site functioning for those of us who can still see the life preserver or flotsam in the water.

What is more than a bit disconcerting about some unions is that they supported Clinton during the primaries against Bernie. As was noted by some pundits, when endorsements were left to the base of unions, the base supported Bernie. Where unions gave their support to Hillary it was with input only from upper union management. One of the most bizarre and truly corrupt endorsements was by the SEIU for Hillary over Bernie. I saw an interview with the head of the SEIU after the election on Democracy Now and she was totally unrepentant over supporting Hillary in the primaries. A candidate who did not even come close to supporting $15/hr min. wage, nor from Wikileaks, gave a fucking shit about low wage workers except as a point of political posturing.

Just recently the democratic mayor of Baltimore vetoed a city council law to mandate a $15/hr min. wage whose implementation was spread over a 5 year period. The head of the local SEIU union was interviewed and his negative reaction. It seemed to me that his loyalties were to a person and the democratic party, and not to his union. The same is true for people like Cecile Richards of Planned Parenthood which gave an unprecedented endorsement during primaries in the name of Planned Parenthood during primaries to Clinton.

(Just a note, three union leaders which backstabbed Bernie and their union bases during the primaries, were featured speakers at the Womens March in DC.)

@MrWebster

From the UE Union Political Action website, an important excerpt:

Does UE's Approach Differ From That of Other Unions?

Yes. Because UE emphasizes rank-and-file involvement and grass-roots-style activism to a much greater extent than many other unions. UE, for example, doesn't have a national PAC (Political Action Committee) to contribute money to candidates, an approach that for many unions has become a substitute for mobilizing the membership. We organize people - not their wallets!

“There is a difference between political action and playing politics. When we fought the politicians and we won what legislation we did, UE didn't play politics; we engaged in political action. We didn't rub bellies with the politicians. There was plenty of air between us. You could see light. Today, try to find some air and light between the bellies of labor leaders and the bellies of politicians. No go. you won't find it. They are playing politics.”

— UE Leader James Matles at the 1975 UE National Convention.

emphases in original

1: It does appear that at least some of America's unions are "getting the message"; and

2: The more I learn about UE, the more I like them!!

..... the way it's acting today, the rank-and-file workers will abandon them.

Unions are supposed to stick up for their membership. Not for Wall Street and the fucking derivatives markets. And union rank-and-filers know that, even if the union bosses don't.

Especially since there are unions out there now like UE (United Electrical, Radio & Machine Workers of America) and the IWW who will do what they are supposed to do!

Its important to have a very large hiring pool (such as Chicago or NYC) from which to choose enthusiastic, smart and low paid permanent employees.

This is the attitude of the “innovation class” whose wealthiest members the Democrats rely on as donors nowadays, instead of ordinary working men and women and their unions.

The Dem hacks like to say about the left and nominally Dem workers: where are they going to go? The answer to that is nowhere near the polls; in a district by district basis (or electoral college region) is really deadly. Starting (?) with ex-president Clinton and other Dem politicians it became enough to win at all costs and not caring by now much nor how they're going to govern if elected. This has been going on for a long while and we haven't had a real Dem president nor Congress in decades.
