Ratf^#*ed in New York and how we prevailed,

and how household politics reflect national politics:

I registered in NY as an Independent some years ago. I realized thanks to a post in one of LD's BNR's that I needed to be registered as a Dem in order to vote in the Dem primary. For some reason New York felt the need to set the deadline for those switching party in October of 2015.
(For those registering for the first time the deadline is a post marked form by March 25th)
So on September 16th 2015 as I was coming out of Grand Central when I saw a gentleman at a table he had set up registering folks to vote. I sat down and filled out the form with the gentleman making sure that he has confirmed that I had properly filled out the document.

The gentleman seemed very nice and knowledgeable but something about him made me feel uneasy about just leaving my form with him, I think it was the way he reacted when I started running my mouth about Bernie. I'm quite aggressive so I try not to judge peoples reactions to me, and was about to walk away when a the though pop into my head to ask him if I could take a picture of my form and he agreed.

Fast forward to yesterday. Reading about all the deadlines I realized I had never checked to make sure my registration was updated. I called the Board of Elections and they said that they never received the new registration form.

Uhhhhhhgggggggggggggggg! FFS! Son of Beech, sheet!(Stripes reference) is what I'm wanting to yell through the phone , but I refrain as the poor woman on the other line was not to blame. I say my goodbye's and sit stewing.

So I'm fahcocked, I can't vote in the primary. It is my own fault that I didn't check before the end of October 2015 and I'm pissed at myself. I somehow subconsciously knew the guy taking my form was in the bag for Hillary but I just let my busy self walk on with following up.

Now that is the bad news here is where the story gets good- My wife is registered as a Democrat and is planning on voting for Hillary. I explained my situation to my wife and before I got half way through she stopped me "Are you going to ask me to cast MY vote for Bernie?".

Of course that was exactly what I was doing and I owned up to it. She replied "Well I asked you if I could get some outside plants and flowers for the deck to make it look pretty for Easter but you told me I couldn't..........".

You see my wife is a brilliant political tactician, she knows how much I want Bernie to win and she knows that I'm heavily invested emotionally. She knows that if she endorses Bernie regardless of who she more aligns with politically that she loses leverage. Her leverage is my desire for her vote. She planned on withholding that vote until she got quid pro quo, as soon as she saw her opportunity she sold her vote and got what she wanted.

So we all win (except Hillary), my wife gets flowers, Bernie gets my wife's vote and Hillary loses a vote. So my household was going to be a wash but now it will be +1 for Bernie.

In this scenario Hillary lost out but in the national political quid pro quo scenarios it is us the 99ers that always lose.

This is one point that Bernie is pounding Hillary and I want to reinforce it-

The CEO of Goldman Sachs has a fiduciary responsibility to the Board of Directors and the (large)shareholders. If the CEO of GS was paying Hillary 250,000 for an hour long speech and they were not getting something for the company in return then that CEO would be fired.

This is from- Remarks From the 2015 FINRA Annual Conferenceby Richard G. Ketchum CEO FINRA

As many of you are aware, I have spoken out in support of a “best interests of the customer” standard for a number of years. I continue to believe today that, for both investor protection and firm cultural reasons, a best interest standard for broker-dealers—under the securities laws—is the direction we must go. Yet I have to admit that I have been disappointed regarding some of the recent rhetoric about the broker-dealer industry and its regulation that accompanied the Labor proposal. This strident dialogue is a disservice to a wide range of investment firms truly working to serve their clients’ interests. It also ignores the strengths of the present securities regulatory system which has evolved over decades to encourage a culture of compliance, demanding proper management and disclosure of a firm’s conflicts and holding firms and registered persons accountable if they fail to meet those standards.

Richard does not name Hillary however I believe that she was part of the problem he was describing please consider that he made these remarks in May of 2015 the same month Hillary gave her last paid (listening tour) speech.

President Bill Clinton, combined to earn more than $153 million in paid speeches from 2001 until Hillary Clinton launched her presidential campaign last spring, a CNN analysis shows.

In total, the two gave 729 speeches from February 2001 until May 2015, receiving an average payday of $210,795 for each address. The two also reported at least $7.7 million for at least 39 speeches to big banks, including Goldman Sachs and UBS, with Hillary Clinton, the Democratic 2016 front-runner, collecting at least $1.8 million for at least eight speeches to big banks.

I can't get very personal here without dredging up stuff left alone. I was amazed when I read in The Guardian that Joan Baez expected Hillary to be the next Pres and was set to move to Australia if Trump won. Joan Baez! WTF! I am now getting it. My wife is a Ph.D. psychologist and MENSA person, and she supports Hillary. I am smart enough to leave it alone.

Joan endorsed Bernie, by the way.

It wasn't exactly an endorsement of Hillary, but I took it as a general sense of approval. If she's come around to Bernie, that's great.

There is nothing which I dread so much as a division of the republic into two great parties.. This...is to be dreaded as the greatest political evil under our Constitution.--John Adams

Sucks that you can't vote in the primary (I'll be changing my party affiliation immediately afterward to Ind). But of course there's lots you can do: phonebanking, registering voters, canvassing; all of which I'm doing when I can and not exhausted from being a first-time father of a three month old at 51.

Thought some local 99%ers like yourself might be interested in showing up too, to this invitation received via email a couple of weeks ago:
