Open Thread WE 6 SEP 23 ~ Funding

~
What makes a smallish website work?
~

If you care about not having to deal with pop-ups and advertisements for enlarged prostrate
cures, it comes down to listener supported and community funded sites like this.

~

I thank my lucky stars we have this place to share, sort-out, commiserate and learn from
each other on a wide variety of burning issues. I would hope you also cherish this fleeting
opportunity to support the cause of expression here.

~

I am by no means wealthy, except for the bonds developed over the years in communication
with those of you, both past and present, that have stimulated thoughtful dialogue. A
grounded source of awareness that is becoming more fleeting as the years roll by.

~

Therefore, I ask for you to dig into your reserves a bit to support this site. It is money well
invested IMO. I know there are few of us dedicated enough to attend on a regular basis,
and probably you are already supporting in whatever means available.

~

The administrators here do not have deep pockets, so we should share the load as much
as we can. Let's try to keep it alive by donating some moola to the kitty.

~

Respectfully yours,
Q

A special thanks to JtC for hosting and maintaining the site, and a special thanks to all of you for making this such a thoughtful and resourceful community!

@Lookout

Thank you for that. The Evening Blues is a major cornerstone by joe shickspack.
The variety of remotely hosted daily Open Threads - something always different
and engaging. Plus all of the reality checks on global and domestic issues to
counter establishment propaganda is valuable in singular essays. Admission is
cheap but maintenance is not free.

cheers!

Perhaps I would be remiss to not also acknowledge the peeps that choose not to
comment, but do give us a glance. I have no idea how many eyeballs roll across
these pages, but interest is a form of support as well.

Thanks!

On this date:

3114 BC Date Maya/Mesoamerican Long Count Calendar starts dating from (as corresponds to the Julian Calendar). That is by someones reckoning. I get this:

12.19.19.17.19 3 Kawak 7 Kumku August 10, 3114 BC

and just for more confusion ..

Today's Maya Date: 13 . 0 . 10 . 15 . 11
2 Chuen 19 Mol

plus the Aztec calendar .. much younger

Aztec vs Maya Calendar – Similarities and Differences

The Aztec and Maya civilizations of ancient Mesoamerica were both incredibly accomplished in their astronomical knowledge and their development of calendars. While they are often lumped together, there are significant differences in the two calendars and their use.

for fund-raising on behalf of the site. It is sort of like the price we pay for our sanity meds.

Big day here today. Gonna be hopping and runninng all about. Temps here 59 to 78, partly cloudy, whatever. May or may not actually dine out, which may or may not be a good thing. Wink

No longer contribute to Andrei Vitchek since he passed.
And since the Saker closed down I no longer contribute there.
I stopped sending money to PBS years ago when they turned to the dark side.
I guess I can bump up my monthly token to make up for it.
Consider it done.
Thanks to JtC and Joe and all here who participate and those who just lurk for a great place to go for the pulse of the common folk.

I had this space for company while we wandered the wilds of France for a year while our toxic homestead maybe (?) mellowed out. Can't be more glad that this community is here.

Thank you all C99!

A society grows great when old men plant trees in whose shade they know they shall never sit. Allegedly Greek, but more possibly fairly modern quote.

Consider helping by donating using the button in the upper left hand corner. Thank you.

I have left in my German bank (ie Euros). It is a nightmare to do. Never, ever live on two continents, I say.

I guess the easiest would be to put you in my will. But darn it, as i learned from my sister, to die is such a long, long process that one wished one would die, but 'fuck the whole thing', if the up on high thinks he doesn't want you die, you simply don't die.Sometimes I think the up on high is a pretty cruel bastard, what do you think, is that a fair judgement?

Well, at least here on C99p, nobody is a cruel bastard.

I talk nonsense now, and therefore shut up. You all survive a little bit longer, you good people.

Good Night.
