Open Thread - Friday, October 12, 2018 - Hops Funk Edition
I've never, ever tasted beer.
- Mike Huckabee -
The net net of the Supreme Court process is denigration of beer? Funk them!
What the funk? Humanity's existence could depend on beer.
I met the love of my life in a college bar. She was a lady and I always treated her with respect. I sure do miss her. She had an affinity for Milk Stout. During the neuromuscular degeneration of ALS, the afflicted lose the ability to swallow months, or even years, before succumbing to the disease. During the time Sue had diminished swallowing capacity, I would wheel her to the brew pub, put a bib on her and feed her a Milk Stout, through a pipette, 5 ml at a time.
Mother's Day, Thing2 and I took Sue out for a Milk Stout. We sat her on the stool between us and ordered three beers. Sue was the bestest beer drinking buddy.
I do not have the beer sociopath gene. There must be a gene, otherwise it's a funkin' excuse, a sign of weakness, and worse.
It's Friday!
Have a great weekend!

Good morning, Tim ~~~
I HAVE tasted beer and I love beer - I'm my husband's drinking buddy, too, heh. I'm just a light-weight,
We're going into winter this weekend. A hurricane off the pacific is bringing a big change to our weather. Rain, possibly snow on Sunday. Highs in the high 30's on Monday. Is the climate changing or something?
Looking forward to baseball and the weekend. Go Dodgers! Go Sox!
Have a beautiful day and weekend, folks!

Good morning, Tim. I was, for a long time, quite a lover of
beer, admittedly mostly stout and ale and still favor Negra Modelo in certain situations and other beers with pizza, though I've evolved into a wino.
Huckabee isn't into denigration per se, he's merely an ultra puritan proudly exulting over his rejection of all pleasures of the flesh. We've had these dimwits for ages, they go hand in hand with the belief that there is some better alternate place hereafter which, not being of this world, requires rejection of the things of this world in favor of that. This is known as betting on the come and is a big time fail.
What we've also had for ages, probably for longer than we've had gods, is booze. Science keeps finding evidence that our most distant ancestors indulged in fermented beverages and even intentionally manufactured same. The dates at which we indulged keep getting pushed back further and further. We probably, all the same, discovered fire first, but booze certainly came before the wheel.

Locale could influence your wine predilection. I have not had much wine, since Sue's death. We would often share a bottle over dinner. Food another pleasure of the flesh, funkin' Huckabee. I do not drink much beer, but I prefer a dark beer and usually will order a stout, if available. Here in Brevard, we have three local breweries plus Oscar Blues, the Brevard location being their first brewery outside Colorado. At Oscar Blues, I usually get Old Chubb, their Scotch ale. At Brevard Brewery, I order their dark, Munich Dunkel. My favorite is the Plotthoud Stout at one of our local breweries, Peaks and Creeks.

As am I. All puritans live to some extent in fantasyland, and
it is simply a question of how much self-deception they indulge in to go along with their holier than thou rhetoric.

Good morning Tim and all
Beautiful cool morning here. Warming this afternoon so should be a good day to drink a cool one. Have not brewed any beer in years, but used to enjoy being hoppy and malted. Also used to make wine, but that's been long ago too. I have distilled over wine to brandy a time or two as well. Perhaps I'll get back to that again...kinda fun to let nature work for you. Used to use the line - I'm going to grow gourds and make home brew...cause you'll kill a gourd working it (they're shallow rooted and don't like to be weeded/hoed) and the home brew works itself.
Well here's hoping all your roads lead downhill and you can turn up your beer with ease.
FL musician singing weedhead - he played a piece at the FL folk fest at our camp last year about making home brew in prison which I couldn't find - sorry, but here's a good substitute.

How was it?
A truth of the nuclear age/climate change: we can no longer have endless war and survive on this planet. Oh sh*t.
