Reality exists in the human mind, and nowhere else. Not in the individual mind, which can make mistakes, and in any case soon perishes: only in the mind of the Party, which is collective and immortal.
― George Orwell, 1984

What a funked up mess!

People all around are struggling to cope, Mass and social media bombardment coupled with the reality project has left people stressed and confused.

I spent ten days with my sister, her husband, her three kids (1M,2F), one of his kids (M) and my two things (1F,1M). The drama, bickering and general malaise was emblematic of the direction reality is being pulled.

The stress and confusion were particularly evident among the gaggle of twenty somethings. At various times sexuality, consumption of alcohol/cannabis, Christianity, class, political affiliation, sibling rivalry, social ordering, step child weirdness, ... all were in play. I had to resort to some of my old project management tricks to keep everything chill.

I wonder when society, as a whole, reaches a breaking point? Things are already really funked up! Just look at how people treat one another.

Things seem to be funkin' unraveling.

Have a great funkin' weekend!

The thread is OPEN. Stay funkin' warm!

from where I am here in Germany, aside from the second and the last one. That's how funking messy these tubes have become.

I have been unraveling since I am back in Germany. And I feel the collapse. So, no more funking news from my side of the ocean.

Sorry you had to whip out the ol' project-management stick. But isn't "sexuality, consumption of alcohol/cannabis, Christianity, class, political affiliation, sibling rivalry, social ordering, step child weirdness," kinda the norm, among American twentysomethings? Seem to recall some of that, back when I was twentying. ; /

@hecate Long time no see, greetings. Yes, it is the norm. The kids young adults are venturing out of their tribes and trying to establish identities. Layer on a funkin' mean world and they are anxious.

So when kids graduate from college (or worse don't finish their degree) they owe more than a mortgage with no physical asset...and can't declare bankruptcy? I think I would be a little testy too. I managed to make it through college with less than $1000 in debt (working and paying my own way)...and got a job upon graduation. These youngsters are facing much greater challenges than we dreamed. So we need to cut them some slack may be?

Hope you are all warm and snug in your homes in the cold weather. About 8 degrees here this AM. However, we are turning the corner tomorrow with warmer weather on the way. Take care everybody!

@Lookout My life goal was to get my kids through college, without debt. They both got used cars and help with college. I can't imagine working for $35k/yr, or less, having no working capital and 10's of $thousands of debt. Layer on living in a new place, left your social group, no significant other, societal malaise, ... is enough to cause a funk.

@hecate We were in an Air BNB, somebody else's place. It snowed a few inches, and I had done the walks. The place had hardwood floors. After a day, there were water marks, salt stains and general abuse. I was up early, ran the sweeper while everyone else was still thinking about getting up, and mopped the floors. When everybody was up and nearby, I announced, "The next person I catch wearing shoes in the house gets their ass kicked!". Problem solved. Funkin' eh.

Carrots for for long term, sticks for immediate results, funk yeah!

One of the lawyers would rent every year for the holidays a house out at the beach. One year he was too weary to go, and left the children in charge. There were fires, pregnancies, coke-stains on the carpet, plumbing explosions, cars on the lawn, naked footraces in the street. Police came.

A beautiful sunrise is happening while I sit on the sofa suffering with a cold. Went yo work yesterday only to leave early and stay home today. The crud is going around and I got picked as a recipient.

The twenty-somethings are our future. Are they talking revolution yet? My grandkids are struggling to live. My grandson just started a construction job in CA because NM has nothing to offer. I hope he stays there. My granddaughter will finish her associates degree in business next December - completed without debt. I hope she gets out of this hell hole, too. It will be a decade before any governor reverses our austerity course.

Way to take charge of the situation. We project managers know when to step in and take charge of an unruly situation. You get the prize this go 'round!

Have a beautiful day and weekend, folks! Pleasantry

@Raggedy Ann Right now, it's 39 here in east central FL. I had on my heavy jacket, hood up, and hands gloved when we walked the wonder Dobe earlier today. I actually like cold weather. What I don't like is dangerous frigid cold and ice. Sad I feel deeply for the young people. The crapo fascists(both domestic and foreign)have done their usual bang-up job of destroying everything they touch...if they can't steal it first. How disgustingly predictable! I've opposed them, and their suckered religious idiot solders my whole political life. Don't know any other way. Hope everyone is staying warm and safe. Rec'd!!

@orlbucfan ... disenfranchised youth, I empathize with their plight. The choices made, during those times, have decades long effects. Had I not met Sue, @21, I know I would have had a much more stressful life. Largely, self induced.

all need periodic reminders of the facts that:
There is a class war going on, and tptb have experience, power and no scruples
This has been going on forever, and knowing history, true history, is your friend
We are not, mutually, enemies; we are collectively the victims and need to work together
We must not oppress or suppress each other but find our shared needs and goals
We need to undermine the system in small ways, incessantly, and mutual help is one way
When all else fails, there is always silent contemplation or drums

Life is too important to be taken seriously

Your Orwell quote struck a note with me.
It was in the last line. "the Party which is collective and immortal".
Collective, is this not the essence of socialism? Is ALEC and even the U.S. Chamber of Commerce a collective?
Is the uber wealthy and corporate oligarchy's complete control of the money supply, wages, production, the military, and the State in fact Socialism?
Is it possible we are living in a Socialist State but have no part of it?
We already know corporations, aside from being people too, are immortal.
And with the intense interbreeding of the 1%, the same families will rule in a perpetual Aristocracy.
Be careful Tim, when throwing out Orwell quotes. It can inspire dangerous ideas and thinking.
Just some food for thought to keep you warm
Thanks for the OT.

I think you are right.
To those who control (own) the State, we are but farm animals. Milked, shorn, culled to improve the herd, and sometimes sent to be butchered in pursuit of world domination.
We actually live in a Socialist Society. But not as members, but as feedstock.
