Greetings cyber_comrades, I am out of pocket today. I decided to skip The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and meander over to Merlefest.
The music is more rootsy and Americana than New Orleans fare, and I expect a less diverse crowd. Heh, it's still music, in the great outdoors, with a bunch of other music lovers. This will be the first time I see The Mavericks, without Sue.
I miss singing to Sue.
The lineup looks like fun, and the setting is in the hills of NC just east of The Blue Ridge, and is reflected in the music.
I am looking forward to catching Paul Thorn, with The Blind Boys of Alabama.
... and I have been wondering about Jamie Johnson. I suspect he will have a following out in the hills of NC.
Rhianna Giddens is rolling up from The Piedmont.
There will be no shortage of pickers!
Some plugged in, like, NMA, Buddy Miller and Jim Lauderdale!
I'll check in later, so behave yourselves.
Have a great weekend!
The thread is OPEN.

happy festival Tim!
I've only been once to MerleFest. It's a good one. I hope y'all have a ball and hear some great music! Too bad Doc is gone. I'm sure he will be missed.
May be he and Merle are together now still pickin' 'em like this...(3 min)

Bonne matin, Capt. Funk!
You should have bodacious weather for Merlefest. What a setting! Are you like lucky or what? I never cared much for c & w. I do like bluegrass, especially live surrounded by a gigantic cookout w/plenty of cold brew. There are a few old country-blues tunes I like. Anywho, one of your picks reminded me of this version.
Lowell George was a guitar pickin' genius who unfortunately liked his boozin' too much. Another one dead too young.
You behave and stay safe, y'hear?! Definitely looking forward to your account next week. Hubby and I are flying up to visit his family in western TN Wed. for a week. He's also renting a bike in Nashville. I will skip this run. Hopefully, the weather gods will be kind. Rec'd!!

Good morning, Tim ~~~
Have fun at the music-fest! Wish there was something like that going on around here! I'd go - casts and all!
Turns out my foot got broken those three weeks ago and misdiagnosed (the hand was X-rayed and found to be broken but even tho my foot was blue, the fellow was sure it wasn't broken!). So, got X-rays yesterday and it's off to the ortho clinic today for a cast or brace or something to stabilize it. I've been wearing the only pair of shoes that seem to help since then and the pain has been getting worse, so I hope no permanent damage has been caused!
Have a beautiful day and weekend, folks!

Take care
We saw the The Mavericks, last night. First time without Sue. It was not as cathartic as I anticipated.

The US will do everything they can to sabotage this. I guarantee it.

Guerrilla Liberalism won't liberate the US or the world from the iron fist of capital.
That sounds like fun.
One of my favorite ways to see/hear artists is at outdoor festivals. When the weather is right and the atmosphere is good, it can be almost perfect. I'm sure you'll enjoy the music...looks like an awesome lineup.
Eagerly anticipating NMA
Mud and rain Thursday, so mud all weekend. As a festival veteran, and former Boy Scout, I was prepared.
The event is on community college campus. There are a bunch of vendors, and the kids from the food service curriculum run a BBQ. The pulled pig and baked sweet potato were delightful.

BBQ sounds good.

Hola compadres. Beginning to relearn the old daily routine
here. Thanks for the OT, Tim, enjoy, and thanks for the samples/examples.

California Statewide Direct Primary Election June 5, 2018
The USPS delivered my Official Voter Information Guide yesterday, thank you very much. While reading a new word popped in to my vocabulary, I thought I was mashing up a new one but no, it really is already a word:
Okay besides that opening distraction, I was startled to discover Dianne Feinstein's "Official Voter Information" such as:

Comments? Please someone talk me down.
I like Johnny Wattenburg NPP for Governor. His entire statement is "Why not?" and boy he looks toasted in the photo. go johnny
The Peace and Freedom Party candidates (real socialists!) look likeliest for my vote, if I even bother to cast a ballot. Primaries are fun why not, civic enragement for the win. I am open to being convinced by D-Berners but Gayle McLaughlin RU Kidding? Did you see the debate? California’s 2018 Lieutenant Governor Debate
cringe worthy

very entertaining

The whole point of the top 2 primary system. When the hell are we going to be able to get rid of that stupid, duopoly reinforcing system and go to something like ranked choice voting.
Beware the bullshit factories.

That is all. Sounds good.
Reviewing the Lt. Gov debate video once more, Gayle Mc, NPP could actually be perfect. I think sitting in meetings all day with her would be a kind of torture, but maybe that is exactly what is called for. I like her now. Unfortunately, I like the R talker Lydia Ortega most of all, wt holy f? srsly opposite day

Honesty gets my respect, she is the only one in the debate to say "this shit is fucked up" amidst all the rainbows and unicorns.
