If you are reading this, no nuke has dropped on us.

Imaginative people should be able to send messages of protests against genocide without directly naming Israel, therefore getting banned from media, fired from jobs, or being arrested. All suggestions are appreciated.

It is raining hard here. My hope is that you all got your fair share and are not jealous.

Our fabulous new Speaker of the House wants to privatize Social Security, cut Medicare and Medicaid. Does this remind anyone of Obama?

I had to have escort from cops yesterday to get out of the courthouse to my office, which I closed early, just to be on the safe side. Shootouts are to be avoided. Not that my opinion is always accepted.

Any travel plans, folks? Funsies, or for shelter?

Some inspirations:

Years ago, the mighty Garth Brooks lost his mind, went off on some tangent music to pay his homage to of all groups, The Beatles. You may have to forgive me for this, but I was given that weirdo CD, and actually loved this one song. Feel free to skip it after 15 seconds, ok? Go on to the bathroom, eliminate, return.

The sane Garth Brooks:

To my government:

And you? What are you saying, doing, not saying or doing? Is life going for you as well as can be under the circumstances? I HOPE SO!

My belief is:

Because at the end of the day, my feelings toward all who read is love.

Now, open thread is an idea free for all.

Go for it!

"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." ---- William Casey, CIA Director, 1981

Yesterday, saw one of your fellow lawyers. The man was super nice. He's what a rich person calls an ambulance chaser, and a poor person calls a godsend. A couple of years ago, some 16-year-old kid who just got his license slammed into me and took off. Luckily, it wasn't in my neighborhood. Where it happened, the cops were actually on the ball and found him. I had a good description of the car and part of the license plate.

The cops where I live would still be looking for him. If you read the local sheriff's page, you would think this area was a utopia. He's got so many people bamboozled that most of the replies on his page are "thank you for keeping us safe." Couldn't find the meth lab next door to me no matter how many times I called. Luckily that situation resolved itself. He got arrested in the adjacent county, spent a year in jail, and his wife finally had enough and threw him out.

Another reason why I'm thinking of leaving the great state of Florida. Thanks for letting me rant.

@Enchantress so do not consider East Texas to re-locate if cop proficiency is your main issue.
What I have known about personally and professionally is that a few cops will turn a blind eye to meth labs as long as they are getting their slice of the profit pie.
Glad you had a good lawyer meet up. Hope he can get you some money from the goof ball's insurance company.
I read something very odd today in Texas news. Seems the top troopers with Tx. Dept. of Public Safety had found that the infamous subdivision near Houston, Colony Ridge, is not a hot spot of cartel. That is so insane, it must be intentional.
Have a great day, and an enchanted evening, enchantress.

@humphrey knows the hospital was a military headquarters, why were they so intent on blaming Hamas for the damage?
I think the State Department or Presidential spokesperson, which ever the bastard is, should be permanently choked up and unable to speak. I prefer his sniffling to his words.

Kirby is keeping with America’s two faced policy. It just depends on whether the country being warred upon is friend or foe.

Obama once said with a straight face that no country should accept another country bombing them.

IMG_6270.jpeg

Uresella once said that cutting off gas and electricity were war crimes. She has no problem with Israel doing it to Gaza.

Biden doubts how many Palestinians have died, but accepts that Russia is committing genocide in Ukraine while overlooking the 8 years of Ukraine committing it in the Donbas.

I just hope that our karmic retribution doesn’t come while I’m still alive, but each day that passes makes me believe that the odds aren’t in my favor. It might come sooner than we expect because our defense industry isn’t up to the task of making the weapons we need to keep us safe. Russia and China do not have that problem. They both have hypersonic weapons which we do not. Even Iran might have them. Why don’t we? Factories have been closed, our education system is not teaching kids what they need to know and defense companies have put lots of their money into buying back their stocks instead of building up their companies. But now Biden is trying to open up a 3 point war. SMDH.

So jib saram just arrived safely at Inchon. Her best friend was there to meet her. She's at the air bnb where she got some credit for the cancellation last year due to our flood emergency. I spoke to her friends on Kakao talk a few weeks ago when she couldn't answer the phone. They were surprised I could understand them because we never met before, although I do know all my wife's family members. Why don't you come they asked? 글쎄요 Too difficult to explain. Need to mind our personal affairs while she's gone during hurricane season, can't stand flying, the administrative crap, etc. My dog has ptsd from the storm, if we both leave him... She will meet her uncle there, too, who is traveling from the DC area. Sam chon is a couple of years older than I, seems to have much more vitality. I don't think he's even retired yet. Incredibly dynamic person, like So jib saram.

Yesterday, when I read Scott's account of his father in law's experience in Georgia, it reminded me of chang mo nim's (mother in law) experience fleeing Seoul during the Korean war carrying her son along who was a young child then. She and brother in law fled across the countryside ahead of the communist army aiming to drive out the US and Syngman Rhee. Frankly, they're lucky they survived.

I always wanted to get the details of this personal story from Chang mo nim but my Korean wasn't good enough for a historical dialogue with her. She spoke Japanese (she was educated during the colonial period) and knew Korean of course, but her English wasn't that good. My conversations with her, such as they were, were limited to household affairs. I only wish I had gotten the story of her experiences as a young person in Korea first under Japanese rule, then the Korean war. It was a great experience to know her. She passed away quite a few years ago. Believe it or not I often think fondly of her often although traditionally the relationship with the mother in law is thought to be problematic and not close.

Just finished watching this Kdrama, If You Wish Upon Me, which is about a hospice, where volunteers try to grant last wishes to the patients there. It's on viki.com, it's bittersweet, a real tear jerker. There are a couple of scenes of unacceptable violence, as gang culture is one of sub threads. The plot also had one too many unlikely coincidences but somehow I got hooked on it. I must have missed the episode with the giraffe.

Thanks for your music selections OTC really enjoying them.

@soryang could have told you the details of her life story and her great escape.
Out of curiosity, I checked out some flight patterns from Miami to Seoul. Not as long as I had imagined. Still, plane rides are never pleasant anymore.
I am glad your wife is getting to visit her family. Wonderful for her.
You remind me of the darn things we do for our dogs!
And spouses!
Enjoy some music, watch some tear jerkers, and have a great day, Soryang.

@on the cusp Atlanta. This time Detroit. The great circle flight was 15 hours. I followed on flightaware in between falling asleep.

Ms. So calls Smokey my "sticks like gum." Gom tak ji. I think literally it means "gummy bear."

Everyone thinks their dog is cute. Children often approach me and say, "hey mister I like your dog." Sometimes, "Mister Can I have your dog?"

Thanks for the OT OntheCusp.

@soryang sometimes a dog owner does, indeed, have a cute dog. Like you, So.
I like the airport in Atlanta, but it doesn't like me. Every time I try to board, I get yanked out of the line and patted down. My carry on gets opened and inspected. I have Global Entry and TSA Trusted Traveler membership, but that doesn't impress the TSA at that airport. Strange.
I haven't flown since Dec. 2019. I hear it is worse than ever.

@on the cusp was over 20 years ago. I remember specifically because was just about 4 months before 911. There were two guys sitting behind me. They got off in Dallas to my great relief. One looked like Khaiid Sheik Mohammed. The other a bodyguard. They both had a military look. I honestly thought there was a good chance of a hijacking. When they got off, I thought I will never fly again, even if required for work. I had flown in the law firms crappy little private plane shortly before that and it scared the crap out of me, when the pilot hit some kind of downdraft, and the plane dropped like a 500 feet in a couple of seconds. I wasn't strapped down, so it was zero G for a split second as I came off the seat, and my head hit the cabin ceiling, hard.

I worked in an aviation environment for five years when I was young, and encountered several aviation accidents in one way or another, without being onboard the aircraft myself. A few were fatal. I knew the pilots, a couple were friends. People always said to me, "oh that's military aviation." Another person told me, "oh military aircraft are much safer now," which I think is bs.

When my father came to visit here one time not too long after 911, he was 73 years old, the TSA treated him like he was a criminal, because he had a bandage/cast thing on his foot for a minor surgery he had had recently. He was obviously infirm and not well. It was most humiliating. I started going off on them, and my stepmother told me to leave. I had the same crap done to me at the courthouse, because someone was pissed at me for quitting.

I just won't subject myself to that kind of thing anymore.

My daughter told me, Ms. So could have simplified her check in, if she had that that trusted traveler security check or whatever. Based on what you just told me, I will tell her not to bother.

I've told these stories before, bear with me.

@soryang who died that hard way. I have been on only 1 scary flight from AZ to Houston, where turbulence was so bad, we all thought we would die, including the airline hostesses.
I will say the GOES (which is getting a new name) system is great for coming home and going through custom in only a few minutes, and the TSA Trusted Traveler gets you through checking into the terminal without undressing (I kid), at any time, anybody can expect a random search. Every airport has a different number of passengers to let pass through before they grab someone at random to pat down. I have been that random person at least 3 times at that airport, can't remember it happening anywhere else in the world, or in the US.
I will never board a plane that doesn't have a co-pilot. Just recently at an airport in Houston, a pilot on his way in went into a sudden coma, and it just so happened a passenger had a commercial pilot's license, so he landed the plane safely. That's way to damn scary for me.
I am not eager to fly. I am not scared to fly. I might one day if the travel bug bites me again.
Always tell your stories.

A great composite of music to cover the myriad memes suggested.
Glad to hear you have some (much needed) rain.

We are out of town this weekend visiting the in-laws. Argh.
Long Island roads are way too busy. But the ferry ride across
the sound was very nice yesterday, followed by a scrumptious
dish of shrimp and grits on the south fork on a sunny water
view deck.

Thanks for the OT!

@QMS A weekend with good in-laws, yes! The shitty ones, absolutely no way!
Glad you had a ferry ride and good grits. Yeah, man!
We have no particular plans to go run and play this weekend. I have leave of courts to be out on vacation from Nov. 15 thru Nov. 24th. Concerts, caverns, hiking up Enchanted Rock, and whatever else we can find in the Texas Hill Country.
Have fun this weekend, friend!

Glad you got away from work safely and get to have some time off to boot. Glad to hear that you're getting some rain too.

Dunno 'bout any "cartels" near Houston, depending upon how you define "cartels". I do know there are unsavory "persons" aplenty there; ExxonMobil, Phillips 66, ConocoPhillips, Occidental Petroleum, a piece of Enbridge, a piece of Freeport-McMoran, Marathon Oil, and on, and on, and on.

No nuke has dropped on us either. Got some garlic and shallots planted yesterday, now to sit and pray for rain.

be well and have a good one

That, in its essence, is fascism--ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or by any other controlling private power. -- Franklin D. Roosevelt --

@enhydra lutris @enhydra lutris Well, I agree certain oil companies are a teeny, tiny bit crooked, merely associating with the cartels of central America, who help them clear out villages a couple of hours before said village is blown to bits. Then, let the drilling begin!
Now, the cartels local cops deal with just aren't the ones those big time troopers never see. They haven't heard that high schools in the area provide free Narcan to their students since Colony Ridge came to be.
Nothing to see here. Just move along.
Good luck with the herbs, and hope you get rain.
Have a great weekend, friend!
