Open Thread - 07-08-22 - Under the Weather

Good morning folks. I've been under the weather the last couple of days so I've got nothing today.

Sorry about that. Please talk among yourselves and make this a true open thread.

Thanks and have a good one.

I recommend two aspirin and two clean sheets, and as much sleep as you can manage. Be sure to stay hydrated as well.

Wishing you rapid healing!

This is an interesting chart posted by Ian Welch, I'm curious what others think about it. The title makes it self-explanatory.

In this discussion on Tom Luongo's 'Guns Gold and Goats Podcast', the topics of open vs closed systems of human organization are contrasted and the figure of the British Empire's leading misanthropic priest of death Thomas Malthus is debunked from a variety of angles. A major part of this discussion vectors around cultural warfare, cinema, poetry, music and art which have the effect of either uplifting and edifying the soul or degenerating society into complacent slaves.

@CB @CB , if you will see my response as I am a day late.

I haven't finished watching the video you posted, I'm about one-third of the way through.
With regards to that chart, the information it conveys (or purports to convey) is a function of the decisions that have been made about the structure of our society. For example, how we organize and manage public health care, agriculture, diplomacy (or the lack thereof), waste, pollution, the economy, etc..

If however, we change the structure of society, the chart would look different because we would have different outcomes. I don't think the validity of the chart is in question for implying that what we have is a closed system. I think it shows consequences of the system we have. It doesn't mean that we couldn't implement different systems.

The podcast conversation seem to be thinking along the same lines. It suggests that there are other possibilities with regard to how we structure our society. As much as many dislike the term 'paradigm change', it applies here in the sense that that is what is needed if we hope to survive.

Thanks CB, I appreciate your insights.

I mean, given that the weather is generally atmospheric, we ground bound persons are all always under the weather, taking things literally. It seems that the phrase has nautical origins, but whatever, sorry to hear that you're not feeling well.

'Tis another day for getting shit done here, but, of course, the more of them we have, the less we get done. Entropy. Must try all the same.

For you, compadre, rest, liquids, lotsa protein never hurts, keep warm (heh) or cool as the case may be. Depending on the ailment, the household remedy here is juice of one lemon, preferably meyer, in coffee mug or other somewhat heatproof vessel, teaspoon sugar, shot of brandy and hot water to make 6 to 8 oz.

My client is in it, I have to go visit him. I have to visit within 48 hrs. of being appointed as the attorney for the indigents.
The phones are supposedly secure, but they are likely tapped. We do sign language and write notes.

Life can be so unfair!
The jail visit was crazy. The dude does agree he needs a psyche eval. He knew the president is a nut, shouldn't be in office, but couldn't name him. He correctly guessed it was 2022, although he had to think about it.
Meds will fix him, right?

I seem to be bothered by them as well. Temperatures in the 100’s in the shade here in the afternoon. Liked some of the suggestions that were made. I get my morning ride done by 8:30, and then limit my outside activities to short bursts, ie to water my trees.

Take care and plenty of liquid, maybe even soup..

News seems to be depressing, concerning or maddening except for a a few bright spots here and there. Did read that it appears the fin whales in Antarctica have possibly begun to make a comeback. That is good news in my book.

The graph posted by Ian Welsh does seem to be another glimpse into our very near future.

Take care!

coincidence.jpg

It's just a coincidence that everyone that the ruling class doesn't like is evil.

It's like when they say that "socialism always fails". It's just a coincidence that every socialist nation is embargoed, sanctioned, is directly undermined by the CIA which finances revolts and coups to the tune of billions of dollars, or simply gets invaded by the U.S.

Socialism was going to "fail anyway". Our actions were all coincidental.

@humphrey I was just randomly looking at Telegram accounts about the war in Ukraine. One crazy claim was that some Ukrainian hustlers sold to an intermediary mobile French howitzers who in turn sold them to the Russians.

Looks like the US HIMARS rocket launchers are being touted as the wonder weapon to finally turn the proverbial tide of war. Russia claims to have destroyed two of them, but Ukrainians denying the claim. From official Russian sources, they claim that since Feb. they have destroyed over 700 multiple rocket fired systems. If true, Russians know how to find and destroy those rocket launchers. Don't think HIMARS has any magic to them in avoiding Russian counter attacks.

The whole arming Ukraine thing is getting insane. Scott Ritter says Ukraine wants 1,000 artillery pieces. He notes this is more artillery than the US Marines and Army have combined. One pundit noted that Ukraine before the Russian invasion was well armed with heavy pieces. Looks like the Russians systematically destroyed Ukrainian arms, and are now systematically destroying NATO/US arms sent to Ukraine. Who exactly is weakening whom? Insanity.

about food shortages and famines lately. Ellen Brown has an interesting article up at Scheerpost about this issue. The article offers some interesting solutions and is a good read. https://scheerpost.com/2022/07/08/ellen-brown-achieving-self-funding-loc...

But first, some framing of the problem. It’s not just about temporary food shortages. It’s about sovereignty from the sort of global control foreshadowed in Henry Kissinger’s notorious statement, “Control food and you control the people.”

Alarmed commentators are observing that our food systems seem to be under attack. In a June 14 article, ZeroHedge republished a list of 99 accidental fires hampering America’s food supply chain since January 2021. Meanwhile, many farmers are unable to get the supplies they need to produce food, from fertilizers to herbicides to tractor parts; and small trucking companies that deliver food to grocery stores are being driven into insolvency by unprecedented diesel gas prices. There has also been a surge of cyberattacks on agricultural companies during critical planting and harvest seasons. And an estimated 10,000 head of cattle died mysteriously in Kansas feedlots. The deaths were officially attributed to a heat wave but that explanation is disputed by farmers.

Makes one wonder what is going on with the food system. She follows up with some proposed remedies.

Community currency expert Thomas Greco, author of “The End of Money,” maintains that a produce-backed currency could be issued without even creating a cryptocurrency. A group of local farmers could be organized to jointly issue farm currency as a paper or digital community currency, which could be spent into circulation to buy what the farmers needed to produce their crops. The currency would circulate in the local community and would be accepted back by the farmers in payment for the products they sell.

Not many here talking about work.

It was a hot day after many others. 99 degrees. I've been hand digging because I'm on top of utility lines. A cut line due to power tools can earn me a big fine. No shade and hard clay. But... I work for myself, so I started at 9:30 and left at 3. I don't even think of hiring labor of late.
