Open Thread

I have been unable to make my Open Thread publish. And yes, I checked to make sure "Open Thread" is in the tags. It keeps telling me "this node cannot be updated." I then tried re-editing it and setting a different publishing time. Then it told me it was unpublished and would be published on 7/18 at 9:34. Which it now is. I dunno, maybe it will eventually publish.

If it doesn't publish, I'll publish it next week, since it's the next installment in my Outside the Asylum series.

As an amusing aside, yesterday the Florida Democratic Party called us.

Here's a couple of tunes to celebrate that occasion:

Good morning!

@Steven D Too late for this week; having two OTs and posting one late means that only one or two people will read the late one.

Meanwhile, it is both national hot dog day and national caviar day - wrap your head around that. When is national dumpster diving day, I ask you?

Wow, seriously dark humor from me today! I blame it on lack of sleep.

On this epic poem/play. It's coming much clearer now as far as a final vision, and I'm loving the hell out of it because there are so many roles that can be played by SO many actors. Essentially I'm giving the lines I wish I'd been able to get as an actor to the actors in this play. I am not one of the school of thought that the best actors are those who work without saying anything.

I'm absolutely in the school of thought that the best actors who make a choice with material that can be taken MANY different ways. So, with that in mind, I'm changing the title of this epic poem to "The Logos Of Antisthenes" in honor of the man whose work inspired this. And I intend to write a small monologue where in classic tradition of Aristophanes, a old philosopher is granted leave for a day to tell a story that had been forgotten.

Other than that, I got back to Judo last night. Good workout, and even though I had a slight gout attack from dehydration, I'm hydrating and keeping my foot up as much as possible because I'm doing it again tomorrow. (I know Cherry Juice is supposed to work as well, but I can't do that one right now, so in lieu of lubricant, I'm flushing my body's gears with water. Smile )

And a random song I like and which always improves my mood.

@dkmich I'm not kidding when I say that this one is so easy for me that I really do feel like it's not me writing it. And I'm a LOUSY salesman.

If I had my druthers, I'd release it for as close to free as possible, just so it would get PERFORMED. It's a high school Drama department's dream piece. Lots of roles for women, and lots of varying parts, with a lot of subtext that most parents won't get and thus won't complain about.

Like https://musescore.com/ I have started using the open source software package MuseScore for composition. The website hosts a community of composers who upload their works for everyone else to enjoy. I have the recent "Peace Chant" posted, plus a song I wrote about 20 years ago for a middle school girls choir. I have another choral thingie churning around in my head for the next project.

I have not researched it, but probably there is a site like this for plays?

Been busy the past couple of days . . . son turned 17 and peaches need to be picked and frozen, so I am a bit behind on reading your poetry, but I will catch up on all of it when I can. Smile

@detroitmechworks Wow, dmw. I didn't realize that what you were working on was a play! I thought it was *just* an epic poem.

This is getting cooler and cooler all the time.

@Cant Stop the Macedonian Signal production, of which any effective performance will be.

First it allows for non-professional actors to shine, since their roles will be WELL defined and easy to get a handle on. In many cases that will be the pop-culture versions of the characters, and so the easier roles for the younger actors will be the gods. Harder roles will be ones like the muses, the heroes, Antisthenes (Who will have a speaking role, in the title piece) and the Questioner who gains favor with Hermes and Hades for one day.) While that's an EASY and quick interpretation, I'm also trying to write on the level of commentary on the modern day, as well as addressing some social issues obliquely.)

Now of course, this is as pretentious a piece as you'll ever see from me. I hope to have puppies at certain points during the play. (Yes, I am going with Thalia on this one, and there's nothing audiences love more than opening a play with a joke and a puppy. Hecate's piece in particular I envision the actress being very threatening when talking about her hounds, then holding up an incredibly adorable puppy.)
