Open Letter to the Networks
OPEN LETTER TO ABC, NBC CBS AND FAUX NOISE --
You three stations are all mouthpieces for defeatism, excessive consumption of garbage to enrich billionaires, consumption of incompletely tested crap
drugs that people don't need often for made-up "conditions" along with the simultaneous denial of drugs people DO need for real diseases and ailments
because the xtian physicians order you to program people to suffer and die in pain from diseases they are unable to cure and to waste their tax money and
wreck their possible longevity on crap they don't need.
In this election year you sell us two similar fascists, one more hateful and stupider than the other, both owned by corporations, one pretending to be independently wealthy (he is not), and who are allegedly members of different parties with different ideologies.
THEY are the different sides of the same billionaires' coin and saddled by the 1% to gallop neck and neck in the same direction to the same goal, which has nothing to do with the needs of the 99%. YOU REFUSE TO TRANSMIT INFORMATION ABOUT THE ONLY PERSON IN THIS COUNTRY WHO ISN'T YOUR MINION and which person cares about your viewers, when YOU DO NOT CARE FOR ANY MORE OF YOUR VIEWERS THAN YOU CAN SCREW OUT OF THEM FOR YOUR CORPORATE OWNERS.
YOU ARE SUGAR COATING SLAVERY, SELLING FASCISM, HATRED, REACISM, DEFEAT, VIOLENCE, FAKERY DRESSED AS IF IT WERE REAL, AND CERTAIN DEATH, SUFFERING AND DISASTER FOR THE YOUNG, THE ELDERLY AND THE POOR.
I'm cancelling the mechanism that allows you into my home. I can get news batter from OVERSEAS. IT'S MORE ACCURATE, more truthful, and there's more real information in five minutes than you put out in an hour, with your horrible commercials.
I can get better weather forecasts from sources other than your stations. Books and broadcasting from other countries are better sources of knowledge, entertainment, etc.
I will never more buy the products you advertise. May all four of you organizations go broke.
Comments
You should include PBS/NPR,
which despite its "nonprofit" disclaimer has become as bad as all the rest.
There is no justice. There can be no peace.
They really lost ground
when the gov't cut funding and they started taking Koch money.
There is no such thing as TMI. It can always be held in reserve for extortion.
I never watch either any more
Both SELL mental health meditation and diet plans via nag night endless repeat bloviations; and the same with "planning for old age" crap. During the nag you are offerred DVDs of the gasbags which have been horking at you for 45 minutes.. the same hork you just snoozed through already.
I feel so sorry for the so-called opinion discussion hosts.. their programs are BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORING or more bullshit propaganda for korporatism.
Nice to see you here Maven

Public media too
I'm working on a piece about our public media. It blows my mind how bias NPR and even PBS have become. IMO PBS is the better of the two.
The commercial stations are all about profit - see my dairy from yesterday (Want to understand this crazy election? Follow the money"), but the public stations were created for non-commercial information. Yet they are selling the corporate message. It's time to reclaim the public airwaves and give up on commercial media as evil profiteers as you suggest.
How interesting that states with wide spread internet access correlates with supporting the Sanders campaign.

There is one "pbs" broadcaster I kind of like
mHz has news and public interest program in English from Japan, Ireland, France, China, Latin America via Caracas Venezuela, Ireland, Ukraine, VietNam. It saddens me that they no longer offer news from Flanders and Netherlands, Ethiopia and the AlJazeera news.
For a while I could get AlJazeera here, but not on cable any more, dammit.
MHz gave me one thing I couldn't get anywhere else and I LOVED it, absolutely LOVeD it.. Mysteries and cop television shows from France, Italy, Germany, Spain and the Nordic countries, IN THOSE LANGUAGES, with subtitles.
I got turned on to the novels of Dibdin because of those, and I fell in love with Denmark, Finland, Sweden (less so IMO in that Sweden has what I think is a problem with the 1%er swedes who think they're too good to contribute to the public weal.. and my knowledge of that kind of sours what I watch) and Norway.
I collected many of the best of these and they saved me from any further addiction to any US crap TV.

I don't think they're gonna write back.
Form letter saying "Thank you for your interest"
That's the Standard Operational Bullshit nowadays.
There is no justice. There can be no peace.
Maven, I won't get even that..
but if more of us from here just tune them all out and let them know why, they might, if we can get Bernie Elected, wake the f*** up and stop making their news broadcasts like unreality TV and maybe solicit some programming with original content and original message.
or not.

Give em hell, Fentress!
Raised 5 kids through high school without tv. Got one once to play Pong, but they held a vote and got rid of it. It leaves them out of trivia contests and reminiscences of "the Brady Bunch" and "Charlie's Angels", but they are still not plugged in (oldest is 40). They all think for themselves which was the point of the exercise. Finally got a tube to watch VCR's. Now I pay Dish $120/mo for satellite...hmmm.

I'm old, I'm weird, and I collect....
DVDs.
And I love shows with oddball content. most of which are not on in the US for one reason or another, all having to do with quality...
Quite Interesting, aka Qi, for one, though they've lost Steven Fry as a host after series 11.
I sat my ass down and started watching a huge box of DVD's going all the way back to the 80s recently. UK trash TV... Taggart. Hooboy was HE an *ssh*le!
I have the Equalizer yet to go through, have savored every second of The Chief, Silent Witness and A Touch of Frost. Still have put off watching Blue Murder. I've also got to sit down and get through Rosemary and Thyme (though it's much shorter).. and Luther (which is about to be butchered by a US remake). I'd love to get my hands on a COMPLETE set of The Bill -- a series that ran from 1984 to 2010. I haven't sat through Scott & Bailey yet, either.
I read, read read.. I draw, paint, write, but mostly I read these days.. read read read read read and then knit.

Kill your TV.
Embrace local theater.
Take back your thoughts and opinions.
I do not pretend I know what I do not know.
I used to work staff in local theater
While that was in a large city -- dallas -- and the local theater I worked in is defunct now, OH JEEBUZ SPARE ME from any more small town live theater productions. I cringe at bad Gilbert and Sullivan and more than any other human indignity I DREAD the coming of the collapse of the infrastructure with the death of petroleum fuel...
Why?
I figure we'll be stuck with Chataqua travelling troupes performing Our Town.
I've had nightmares about that.

Our Town... ugh...
HATE that play.
Course I've also seen some phenomenal local theater, but then...
I like almost any production of Shakespeare, which isn't done enough anymore.
Course, I also enjoy good comedies from the sixties, etc...
I guess it just comes down to whether the performers are trying to entertain or be "Meaningful".
The latter tends to ruin it, IMHO.
I do not pretend I know what I do not know.
Our Town was fine in its day
kind of innovative in a Spoon River kind of way.
I guess it hasn't aged well.
Oy, ANOTHER one I hate...
Had to do one of the monologues and lord it's dull...
I'd much rather watch even an Amateurish production of "A Funny Thing Happened to Me on the Way to The Forum..."
Yes, I know my taste is showing.
I do not pretend I know what I do not know.
