Obama appears to take Ted Cruz's advice

Remember when Ted Cruz promised to carpet-bomb ISIS?

When asked about his previous statements advocating carpet bombing ISIS "into oblivion," Cruz said that he would "apologize to nobody for the vigorousness with which" he would fight terrorism and destroy the terrorist group, which is also known as the Islamic State, ISIL, or Daesh.
"You claim it is tough talk to discuss carpet bombing," Cruz said. "It is not tough talk. It is a different fundamental military strategy than what we've seen from Barack Obama."

Yeah. Different. That's one word for it.
Of course Cruz is just competing with all the other Republican candidates to promise the most war crimes if elected.
No Democrat would ever do this, right?

And then this appeared in the news today.

The U.S. Air Force deployed B-52 bombers to Qatar on Saturday to join the fight against Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, the first time they have been based in the Middle East since the end of the Gulf War in 1991.
U.S. Air Forces Central Command said it last flew the long-range bombers operationally in the region in May 2006 as part of the war in Afghanistan, and during a U.S.-led military exercise in Jordan in May 2015.

Unlike the first Gulf War, and even during the Afghanistan operation in 2001, there were front lines away from populations.
That's not the ISIS war, which is more of a civil war than anything else.

Brown said the bombers would be able to deliver precision weapons and carry out a range of missions, including strategic attack, close-air support, air interdiction, and maritime operations.
Karns said the bombers would enable U.S. forces to drop one or two munitions in an area, rather than use carpet bombing.

Yeh. Because that's why you deploy B-52 bombers. For a single conventional bomb.
Either that's really stupid, or a flat-out lie.

Personally, I don't think Obama is planning on using the B-52s against ISIS. I think Obama is preparing for the next, larger war, which will start shortly after ISIS is defeated.

so why wouldn't he take Cruz's advice on middle east policy?

The lamer the duck he becomes, the farther right he seems to move.

500,000 Iraqis have died since Bush launched his war based on lies. I don't know the count in Afghanistan but it must be high if Karsai publicly calls out for the USA to leave. Nobel Peace Prize? Geneva Convention? War crimes prosecutions?
