Not Surprise! Pelosi turns on progressives

I cannot recall a single time in my lifetime that progressives didn't cave when the slightest bit of pressure was applied. Could this be the first time progressives actually show some backbone?

House progressives are warning that they’re prepared to defy Speaker Nancy Pelosi and oppose a $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill if she brings it up for a vote on Thursday.

The renewed threat of revolt comes after Pelosi (D-CA) reversed herself on Monday, reportedly telling members of her caucus that they could no longer wait for Democrats’ multitrillion-dollar budget reconciliation package of social spending and tax hikes before passing the infrastructure bill.
...
Pelosi’s delinking the two bills poses a challenge to House progressives — and calls into question the long-term prospects of passing a reconciliation package. “Pelosi is basically asking progressives to trust her that Manchin and Sinema will agree to a package that the broader Democratic Party will back,” says Punchbowl News. That’s an awfully big ask. The only insurance policy progressives have is the infrastructure bill. Why would they give that up at this point -- especially when they have no true deadline.”

I still expect progressives to cave, because that's what they do.
However, I would gladly see both bills go down to defeat just to see progressives stand together against the corporate Dems for once.

Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.), head of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, said dozens of liberals are prepared to sink infrastructure in pursuit of the broader package.
“This agenda is not some fringe wish list: it is the President’s agenda,” she said in a statement.

Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.), a member of a group of progressive lawmakers of color, was harsher. She called Pelosi’s plan to reverse course and decouple the two bills a “betrayal.”
“We will hold the line and vote it down,” Tlaib said on Twitter, referring to the infrastructure bill. “This is not the time for half measures or to go back on our promises.”

@humphrey
Dore tried to get them to stand up on an issue that their voters badly wanted/needed.
They refused, which was not good.

But on this one, they've gone on record. Their extremely shaky reputation is now on the line.
If they can't stand together on this, then what would make them any different from corporate Dems?

The sad thing is that I don't believe there are ANY progressive voters out there that expect these so-called progressive politicians to stand tough, NOT ONE SINGLE TIME! (except for Bernie)
We totally expect our politicians to be gutless losers.

That's pretty sad.

I've seen lots of changes. What doesn't change is people. Same old hairless apes.

either a successful movement or any change.

We really needed a third party under Bernie.
