New Secretary of Defense? Tulsi Gabbard?

I just read this proposal over at Sic Semper Tyrannis:

Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard for SECDEF

I found that interesting, especially the thought of would she work for Trump, if she did how long would she last, and all sorts of other questions that follow on from that. Technically, with the democratic majority, she's not absolutely needed in congress, and this may pave the way for a presidential run.

But on a more general note--who do you see taking over the SecDef position? Who would you want? Who will actually be the person?

Gabbard has little to gain from this (i.e. she's a progressive), while Trump isn't known for being bipartisan.

A truth of the nuclear age/climate change: we can no longer have endless war and survive on this planet. Oh sh*t.

@gjohnsit
Twenty years ago, he could just as easily have run as a Democrat. He's always been equal opportunity as far as political donations (ie. bribes) and hobnobbing (thus, the various photos with him and the Clintons socializing). And indeed, his entire campaign was a gigantic Fuck You to the Republican Party elite, which was so lame, useless, dysfunctional and fragmented that it couldn't unite behind a single sane, competent champion to stand against Trump in the primaries. (As I recall, only one sane, competent champion even threw his hat in the ring, and he was generally ignored.)

Of course, the flip side of that GOP dysfunction would be the DNC corruption. The Dems need not worry about a maniac like Trump winning their nomination, because the party elite can quite effectively cripple any such candidacy -- indeed, as we have seen, under the right circumstances they can select the eventual nominee before the campaign even begins.

The earth is a multibillion-year-old sphere.
The Nazis killed millions of Jews.
On 9/11/01 a Boeing 757 (AA77) flew into the Pentagon.
AGCC is happening.
If you cannot accept these facts, I cannot fake an interest in any of your opinions.

Trump appt'd all the progressives to his cabinet and screwed over the Dems and the GOP. It would be would way to unite the right and the real left who really do want the freaking swamp drained. OK, I'll quit drinking now.

The people who would complain already hate his guts and want to get rid of him anyway, so he wouldn’t have to care what they think.

he has no guts. He can not formulate his own thoughts without repeating core sentences several times. A sign he has nothing to say. He is a loose canon and destructive to anything.

WTF.

@mimi
that can try to fill the presumptive Trumpian vacuum and sculpt something progressive out of that unshaped block of suggestibility?

The way his son-in-law Jared Kushner filled the foreign policy vacuum with ultra pro-Israel and Netanyahu stuff?

I need to get outta here. I just don't fit in and my brain is empty, too small and filled up with pudding. If it would be at least chocolate pudding, but no, even that I don't get.

Sigh.

Just a few weeks ago, we had some in the military openly saying we'd never leave Syria. Now Trump announces the withrawl of all troops. We'll see who "wins out" in the end.

Trump seems to have been pushing back against the military-industrial-spy agency complex in the past. When there are calls for huge strikes in Syria, he strikes an abandoned airfield and that sort of thing. Maybe he just got fed up with it.

Or, maybe they are, indeed, shifting focus to something directly against Iran or the Russian-backed parts of Ukraine? Time will tell.

Dennis Kucinich? Not likely. Cynically thinking it might be an attempt to corrupt Tulsi, or expose her as a fraud, but I can't imagine her falling for it.

Although they sort of agree on the insanity of the US "strategy" in Syria. BTW I am on Tulsi's email list and my latest email from her indicated clearly that she is considering a run for President. This may be old news to people. I have been busy over the past few days and haven't been here as often as I would like.
