NEW PPIC POLL: Bernie has erased Clinton's lead in CA

It's obvious as ever why the establishment bloggers/tweets/TV pundits INSISTED mightily, over and over, that Sanders had 'no chance' of winning California: because they were scared that he did.

Their feats (and projections) are confirmed: CA is in play, baby.

http://www.npr.org/2016/05/27/479755250/entering-final-primary-stretch-c...

And both candidates are fighting to win California. Clinton wrapped up a four-day swing Friday, while Sanders is in the midst of a weeklong barnstorming of the state.

Sanders pointed out recent polls with some glee at a rally in Santa Monica earlier this week. "She's looking very nervous lately," he said. "And I don't want to get her more nervous, so if you promise not to tell her, we're going to win here in California."

Even reading the CLinton quotes from the article, it strikes me that she is ill-equipped to fight Trump in today's modern political climate. To be honest with you, I was telling my 20somethings on campus last year that Sanders was 'unelectable' because I thought there was no way a senior citizen from Vermont could get mainstream appeal in modern Amerikkka.

Happy to report that I was wrong. IN a gift from the gods, we have a self-proclaimed democratic socialist whooping ass. It's amazing! When you just forget the last few months and think about your perception of his campiaign 10 months ago, it's a big leap.

And now, even Clintonistas talking to the NYT (a reliable neoliberal rag) are expressing fears that Clinton is not 'the type' of politician that can face down the Donald.

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/05/29/us/politics/hillary-clinton-donald-tru...

But early optimism that this would be an easy race is evaporating. In the corridors of Congress, on airplane shuttles between New York and Washington, at donor gatherings and on conference calls, anxiety is spreading through the Democratic Party that Mrs. Clinton is struggling to find her footing.

While she enjoys many demographic advantages heading into the fall, key Democrats say they are growing worried that her campaign has not determined how to combat her unpredictable, often wily Republican rival, to whom criticism seldom sticks and rules of decorum seem not to apply.

Mrs. Clinton is pressing ahead with a conventional campaign....

I've lost track of how many times at TOP, twitter, FB that I've pointed out (as many others have also) that Clinton's trying to be a traditional candidate in a non-traditional year. It's not that she is the Devil incarnate or the worst Democratic politician ever (Joe Manchin looks worse from where I'm sitting, that scumbag) or any of these ad hominem , identity-politics debates that Clinton apologists like to debate. It's simply that we're running an Al Gore against a better version of Dubya. For all their stupid as shit talk of a ' Nader ' happening, it's the AL GORE BEING CRAPPY NOMINEE (as well as John Kerry) that the Democrat Party seems to not be able to figure out.

Obama saved the Democrats from themselves in 2008 and beat Hillary, then McCain. If Biden had run for prez, it's hard to imagine Obama picking Clinton over him, but maybe Obama pressured him to not run. In a few years, we'll hear more details about this past year.

it's been a two week long process...i did an application to vote by mail online....there's only a few fields on the form, including address and mailing address. Somehow orange county fucked up and sent my mail in ballot to my OC address, thus defying the entire point of a mail-in ballot.

So I had to fax them paperwork twice to get them to send me another ballot this week, and it won't get here until my move-out day from my apartment (end of may). so this is easily the most suspenseful ballot casting process that I have ever been in. But one of the reasons Clinton's disrespect of california is dumb is that , as a blue state, voting in primaries is the ONLY time we californians get to influence a presidential election.

The western states period end of story. In their view we are only here for them to exploit. This is why Hillary did so poorly out here.

PPIC and The Field Poll are the best firms out there for California politics. The last Field survey was more than a month ago, showing a 6-point lead for Hillary, continuing the slide in her numbers. The more recent PPIC poll shows this trend, with Hillary and Bernie statistically tied.

Despite this, Hillary supporters tout the outlier poll from New Jersey-based SurveyUSA (which used pre-recorded questions instead of live callers), showing Hillary with an unbelievable 18-point lead. Now, I don't mind them doing this, but it's politically stupid. Supporters who think their candidate is going to win in a landslide are less likely to vote. And the Clinton and Sanders campaigns knows that California is up for grabs, which is why Bernie and Hillary are campaigning like crazy out here.

The excitement is palpable in the Golden State, as new voter registrations have gone through the roof. Figures and one analyst recently quoted by the L.A. Times indicate somewhere between 850,000 to 2 million new registrations have happened this year. Even in a big state like California, that's huge. New registrants are almost always young voters. This group is overwhelmingly pro-Sanders.

Hillary supporters claiming that she win will California easy are not only whistling past the graveyard, but hurting their candidate.

I hope lifting the fracking ban, combined with the blistering OIG report, really hurt HRC in CA. There cannot be that many faux pro-fracking Dems in CA, can there? Plus, I just gave to Bernie today to help his month-end number$ and keep him in the race. Go, Bernie!

2013: Oil lobby leads California spending as ocean fracking proceeds
2014: Fracking moratorium bill defeated by oil industry lobby
2015: California Oil Lobby Spent a Record $22 Million

by Dan Bacher
The oil industry spent a record $22 million lobbying California legislators and officials last year, allowing it to largely determine which bills passed and which bills didn't pass through the Legislature.

This “gusher” of lobbying money in 2015 yielded alarming results: every environmental bill opposed by Big Oil was shelved, or in the case of SB 350, a climate change/green energy bill, was amended under pressure from the oil industry.

The 2015 lobbying brought the total expenses by the oil and gas industry to a whopping $127 million over the past 10 years, according to a report from the American Lung Association in California written by Will Barrett. The report data is obtained from the annual reports filed with the California Secretary of State. (http://www.cadelivers.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/Lung-Assn-Oil-Indus...)

"There cannot be that many faux pro-fracking Dems in CA, can there?"
There only needs to be this many:

In 2015, Big Oil spent its $22 million “attacking healthy air and climate legislation,” according to Barrett. Under intense pressure from WSPA, the Legislature and Governor removed a provision from SB 350 to reduce petroleum use in California by 50% in the next 15 years. In addition, Big Oil forced SB 32 (Pavley), which would have set greenhouse gas reduction limits to 80 percent below 1990 levels by 2050, to be shelved until the next legislative session.

perhaps Bernie should be incorporating it into his Stump Speech for the next two weeks !

about the establishment. They can live with either Clinton or trump. Either one is acceptable to them, but the idea of a Sanders' Presidency scares hell out of them, as it should.

They know the gravy train would come screeching to a halt if Bernie gets elected and brings his coattails with him, and it explains the 24-7 coverage of Trump and the kid-glove treatment of Clinton. They know which side of the bread the butter's on.

Will Wall St cut Hillary loose? My guess is Obama is offering them Biden as a compromise option.

none of this shit were happening, and that Hillary weren't so reckless and clumsy with her power, but given that these are the circumstances, yes: I think they are contemplating cutting her loose and replacing her with Biden.

Or maybe with Warren, which would be the smarter (and more awful for us) political move, but which is a move I doubt Wall St would accept.

Bernie was on Jimmy K the other night. I love listening to him and he IS charismatic. Anyway, he said at the end of this weekend, his champagne will have set a record of speaking to the people........over 200,000 will have attended his rallys and heard him speak. A RECORD!
