Good morning everyone.
Well, Christmas is upon us again.
E2 and I will begin preparing dishes today for the big dinner on Thursday. We are expecting over 30 guests this year, so, 2 turkeys and a ham are on the menu.
We try to make as much as we can beforehand so as not to get in a jam on the big day.
My signature dish is Spirited Cranberry-Apricot Sauce which involves pre-soaking sliced dried apricots in apricot flavored brandy. And of course, sorting through and washing the fresh cranberries takes time.
My other specialty is the sage-parmesan encrusted roast turkey, times two.
And gathering all the ingredients for the various casseroles. And some of the family/guests will bring desert and side dishes they are good at. Kind of a potluck, everyone pitches in.
Years ago I invested in 3 dozen imported heavy ceramic dishes from City Liquidators, a large import store with three floors of foreign merchandise priced rather cheaply. They will have to be pulled out from the back of the pantry and run through the dishwasher, as with all the clamshell & food containers we have saved in the course of the year to send leftovers home with our guests. Many bring their own containers.
It's more like a Thanksgiving feast (which we missed this year) with plenty for all.
The weather has been quite wet as you have probably heard on the news. But a break as been forecast for Thursday.
Yay.
An then, possible snow for Friday. Just when many have to return to work.
So, peace on Earth and goodwill to all.
And may I win the 2 billion dollar Powerball jackpot Christmas eve.
I'll buy Santa a new sleigh.
Thread is open.

sounds interesting. We also have a brandied cranberry relish
left over from T-day. Made a big batch of mashed taters yesterday
and need to pull-out the frozen turkey breast at some point. More
mundane projects are calling today. Very grandiose gesture to buy a
new sleigh for Santa's wagon.

Thanks for the OT!

The parmesan tends to hold in the moisture in better.
And Santa needs an upgraded sleigh, maybe one with with an 8 ft. bed.
Have a great holiday.

an ultra zionist, his credos look a bit shaky.

At the time, many Americans didn’t think people like Miller’s ancestors were fit to become a part of the United States. They were targeted by a virulent strain of nativism toward those from Southern and Eastern Europe that was largely about race.

and, no doubt, a wonderful time to go with it. We get the day off, big high quality lunch out xmas eve and yo-yo dinner, ordinary yoyo breakfast on the 25th and early dinner at my brother's widow's house. Our only job is to bring wine to go with Ham dinner, so probably grenache or pinot for prelims and zinfandel with meal, easy peasy.

We're gettng a tate of your weather, but not to bad here, though the north bay seems to be getting thoroughly clobbered. That's ok, all the grapes are already off the vines and into vats and barrels. ;=)

a lot of slides from burns last summer up your way on the news.
California, either shake and bake or slip n' slide. I remember it well.
Up here people get excited with a 5.0 on the Richter. In LA it didn't even merit grabbing your beer.
Hope the weather is kind to you and yours.
Happy holidays.

Our holiday dinner will be delicious beef tacos. No guests. We will watch a mini-series, "Return to Lonesome Dove".
Glad you have such a festive day planned, friend. To cover all the bases, I wish for you a Happy Holiday, friend!

@on the cusp
We have what is called street tacos. Small 4" white corn tortillas heated in a dry frying pan and topped with some chopped steak, mildly spiced green Verde sauce, sprinkled with chopped onion and cilantro. And a splash of lemon juice.
A family member makes a batch of Christmas Tamales that are to die for. She is teaching two of the grandkids how to make them so the recipe and method are not lost.
Have you seen the headstones with the recipes chiseled in?
I wish great-grandma had left her fudge recipe. Forever lost now.
Have a merry holiday.

@earthling1 One of my uncles worked for a year near the Mexican border and he had a Mexican maid. She taught him how to make authentic tamales. It is not easy nor quick. He would start making them Saturday morning, and they were finished and edible for Sunday's dinner. I never tried to cook them.
