New here; any other Oregon members?

I'm a kos refugee, new here at C99%. I love what I see so far! I'm sick of the 3rd way center-right Democratic party of the last 25 or so years and chuckle when I hear HRC voters refer to themselves as "progressive".
Are there any other Oregon members on here? Anywho I'm happy to join and look forward to making this site my new daily read!

My wife is wrapping up her Bachelor RN and thinking about starting her masters at some point but she has been trying to get me to move to the pacific NW (I have a spinal cord injury that responds better to cannabis than Opiates) but no longer live in a cannabis friendly state.
We have been looking at areas like Coo's Bay (I gotta be near the ocean so I can fish, fresh water is like catching bait, lol!) but don't know a lot about it.
We are thinking about taking a couple weeks to check out some potential future homes depending on how the ballot initiative goes down here, any areas you would recommend?

yeah, I am really hopeful that we can get some change
in the cannabis laws here because I really do love it despite the "Florida = Crazy" factor but I am so tired of feeling like a criminal because I DON'T want to take stronger drugs. lol!
Oh the fucking Irony...
I could easily go back to pain management and go on opiates, but they don't work as well and then I gotta deal with the humiliation of having to fake UA's because I choose cannabis over the 14 pills I used to have to take every day (14 different, not total).
It's just out and out ludicrous...
That's one of the many reasons I have been a proud LEAP.CC speaker for several years. We are changing minds, but it's slower than I would hope down here in the regressive south....

Haven't been to Coos Bay for years so I don't know how the town is doing economically but the coast line there is wonderful.The Columbia River Salmon and Sturgeon fishing might change your mind about fresh water.

can't go wrong on the coast
Coos bay is one of the larger towns on the coast. If your wife is an RN it shouldn't be tough to find work anywhere! Fishing and crabbing are great on the coast, whale watching is good too. Oregon is very much green friendly!
The coast is going to be really really cloudy! And never hot but also never cold. Lots of tourists in the summer. If you do come up to visit, I would highly highly recommend driving up and down the 101, beautiful drive! Pacific city is really nice, but on the small side.
Oregon has a solidly dem house and senate, and every statewide office is D as well. Lots of good measures made it through the house in the last couple months, and there's going to be some big ballot initiatives in the fall.
There's a very strong "anti Portland" attitude in some of the more rural areas of the state. Logging was once upon a time the economic boon of the states small towns, not so much anymore.
You should acquaint yourself with the idea of "Cascadia". Its more popular around here than you might think.

Central OR is beautiful
minus all the Gadsden flags and the occasional stars and bars. Fort Rock and the Painted hills are a must see if you've never been there.

Southern OR here
Also a KOS refugee. Here in Jackson County for 2 years. Love it. Our county Democratic Party Central Committee is by and large progressive... Oodles of environmental activists in the area. Note that rural OR tends to be R and Fox driven but the state overall generally goes Democratic. Lots of Bernie supporters where I live if signs in cars are any indication.

I too live in Jackson County
Lived in Portland for over 35 years. Retired and moved to rural Southern Oregon about 3 years ago. A small piece of land and a lot of animals suit me now, though I still head to Portland a few times a year for contact with friends and to just walk the city.
If you don't know what you want, you deserve what you get.
There are a few rural areas that are sane
the northern and central coast areas come to mind. I'm just about done with a Geography degree and take joy in producing maps. There's a guy on Dkos that does an Oregon political geography series; interesting stuff but I don't expect to see him around here. If there's any interest I can produce maps for Oregon, or the nation, or your state or wherever and post them.

Here. I'm. In Portland metro area, east side. There have been a lot of meet ups of kos members in Portland. Group name is Koscadia. Many are Bernie supporters going by their recs and comments at orange.
been in Portland since 1989
My darling wife and I met in Bandon, on the Oregon coast, way back when, well before it turned into a resort town. In the 70s it was about as far away from anything as you could get on the coast. For reference, you can take a shortish drive from Bandon and you come to a town called Remote. The coast towns are pretty much 25 miles from each other and have their individual personalities.
I'd love to live in Manzanita, or even Bandon again, but those towns have become pretty expensive. We talk about moving to Toledo which is about 7 miles inland from Newport and is, we hear, kind of arty.
But for now we're in SE Portland, watching the city change around us as the city council sells out to the developers.
