Monday OT: October 28 is International Animation Day (ASIFA)
October 28 is day 301 of the Gregorian Calendar year,
Sweetmorn, The Aftermath 9, 3185 YOLD (discordian),
And let us not forget 13.0.6.17.2 by the Mayan Long Count
On this day in history:
.
.
On October 28, 1453, Ladislaus the Posthumous was crowned king of Bohemia in Prague. Not really any big deal, it is just that folks named "the Posthumous" while living tend to get my attention. I mean, when they die are they then post-posthumous. Anyway, his brief 17 year life as royal/imperial at birth is as full of skullduggery and such as one might imagine of one borh son of a recently deceased powerful Habsburg monarch.
On October 28, 1492, Christopher Columbus landed in Cuba, alas. A horrible person who did horrible things, promoted horrible things, and left a horrible legacy. His myth is far vaster than he was in reality, starting with his egregious misconceptions about the diameter of the earth. A buffoon, but an evil one.
On October 28, 1538, The Universidad Santo Tomás de Aquino was founded in what became the Dominican Republic.
On October 28, 1636, The Massachusetts Bay Colony voted to have a theological college, which eventaully become Harvard.
On October 28, 1867, 1893 – Tchaikovsky's "Pathétique" was premièred. Unfortunately, as to the composer, it was 9 days posthumous.
On October 28, 1919 Congress passed the Volstead Act with horrible repercussions that should've served as a warning so sane persons to not go and declare a "war on drugs." Sadly, no rational people were involved in the latter decision nor in its perpetuation to this day.
On October 28, 1922 Mussolini's Fascists marched on Rome and ook over Italy's government. Ours, less flamboyant and overt, quietyly and slowly insinuated themselves into positions of control and power.
On October 28, 1967, 1962 Khrushchev ordered the removal of Soviet missiles from Cuba.

Spelling nitpick: –Strait– of Magellan (no “gh”)
Unless Magellan was playing poker …
When is a “strait” not a “straight”?
• When it’s a narrow place between two expanses of ocean
• When it’s in “dire straits”
• When it’s in a “strait jacket”
Thanks & goodmorning lol, that was from last week, so I deleted
it, No power (continuing) and a luci light so I can see the keybord. Need to get the luci lights back into the now rising sun to charge. Have a good one.

good morning all
Sunny and cool in NE Alabama. After 5.6" of rain Friday it is nice to see the sun, but it is just for today. Rain again tomorrow Wed, and Thursday. We can still use it. The water table is so low the pond is only half full.
I hope you are escaping the fires el. Magi reported on all the fires in CA and it sounds bad with 2M+ folks out of power and breathing smoke. Have we arrived at our dystopian future?
The perpetual wars bring memories of 1984. Saw a clip the other night comparing Huxley and Orwell's futures but I can't find the one I saw. I'll post this 4 min animation in honor of animation day...
They are both right I think. Well I hope everyone has a great day. I have errands to run in town this morning.

good morning Lookout. Glad you have sun
and will be getting rain. No power, typing on tablet by luci light, but sun is up enough to start charging them again. Need to drag out generator to rescue fridge and freezer anyway.
Have a good one.

Good morning, el
Hope you and everyone on West Coast have power, good air to breathe and are safe from flames.
Thanks for the history and tunes.
Good morning smiley. No power & bad air. Using a tblet *
luci light jusy to drop in and day hi. Have a good one.

Sorry about your
power turn-off. Wishing you well.
Power is back temporrily. Thanks for the video.

How bad is the smoke there?
I've read reading the Gate's coverage of the fires and see that lots of smoke has drifted into the area and there are new ones popping up everywhere. Was there much wind when you got cut off? Terrible situation.
Was Humpty Dumpty pushed?
A lot of smoke, but it then veered away from us. Fairly hefty
winds, but nothing extraordinary, nothing seriously unlike all the prior years when they never pulled this stunt.

Quantum Leap
What a feast for the eyes. Nice little animated short. Enjoyed that.
I'm sorry to hear you have no power. Wish there was something we could do to help. Stay safe and keep us updated if you can.

The power is back on, but temporarily until tomorrow sometime.
They suggest that we use this time to recharge batteries and devices. I used it for that too, but mostly to try to get my generator to run right. Finally gave up and took it in to be repaired, full tune-u and all that. Runs like a top now. They're projecting a lot of this thru March, and April is our longish trailer trip each year, so it will definitely pay off.
Have a good one.

morning el
et al
Lots of SC is without power, along with much of the wider Bay Area. Crazy winds here. The Kincade fire is now up to 66K acres and 5% contained. Yesterday it was 30K and 10%. No idea what the weather/wind report is. And lots of posturing by PG&E about how groovy it is to save peoples lives. Really? After the deaths their negligence caused. People here are pissed and talking about it. IS this is the beginning of the exponential curve? We are on the way up in any case. So it ain't gonna get better. That's what I think. Would so like to be wrong. Thanks for the ot. Have a good one...

Hola magi. Their pressers are are a killer, they'e soooo
concerned and all that, plus all neighbors and neighborly (If you live in Blackhawk, maybe) and trying so hard and so much doublespeak and obfuscatory circumlative babble. An upwelling or pushback would be wonderful. I was just reading about "Donotpay" which sounds like an attempt to create a people's union able to force changes through the threat of mass boycotts or shifts to competitors. Haven't looked into it beyond the original article I saw in boingboing: https://boingboing.net/2019/10/28/parking-tickets-plus-plus.html
