7 is a prime (the 4th prime)
-
999,999/7 = 142,857. Any fraction consisting of an integer divided by 7 will have a repeating decimal consisting of those digits in that order starting at a different, determinable digit unless the numerator is an even multiple of 999,999 or 7. For example, 1/7 = 0.142857142857..., 2/7 = 0.285714285714..., 3/7 = 0.42857142857....
-
The short-cut is to multiply 0.142857 by the remainder of the long division, and then repeat that decimal component. Thus, the fractional part of 11/7 is 4/7 = 4 x 0.148257 repeated, generating 0.571428571428571428 etc.
-
This arithmetic oddity was something of a pain for accountants in days of yore because the shortest depreciable life to generate the maximum investment tax credit was 7 years. As a result, 7 was a very popular useful life and the computation of 150% and 200% declining balance depreciation would involve using a rate of either 1.5 x 1/7 or 2 x 1/7.

7 CE was the Year of the Consulship of Metellus and Nerva.
Caesar Augustus was emperor and appointed Publius Quinctilius Varus (yep, that Varus) governor of Germania. Varus almost immediately created a lot of dissension among the various and sundry German tribes, just as he had pissed off the residents of Syria and Judea when stationed in those outposts. This would bite him in the ass in 9 CE at the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest where some of said German tribes annihilated him and his 3 legions. The Romans did, much later, recover their 3 "Eagles", but never again had a 17th, 18th or 19th legion.

The 1993 Russian protests defending the Soviet Union

The Soviet Referendum of 1991
With the Soviet Union destroyed (No doubt with the help of the Bush I and Clinton administrations), the 'Murican capitalists no longer saw any reason to keep up the illusion of 'social democracy'.
Modern education is little more than toeing the line for the capitalist pigs.
Guerrilla Liberalism won't liberate the US or the world from the iron fist of capital.
Good morning and thanks, Aspie. An interesting graphic.
Plebescites and referendums are generally ignored by all except those whose purpose they support. Possibly with some justification.

destruction of the USSR
No such "help" required. I do agree it was probably there, but it wasn't necessary.
The Tsars set up many, many ticking time bombs when they created their Empire. I find it miraculous that the USSR, heir to all of those little problems, lasted as long as it did under the circumstances.
Russian and para-Russian history since the fall of the USSR is far more typical of that part of the world. The relatively internally peaceful and stable USSR is an historical anomaly.

I forgot and left my bike outside in the front driveway overnight. The cable and lock are strapped right on top of the pannier rack. I kinda feel like the luckiest person on earth it was still there when I woke up. Thanks a lot.
Happy Monday
Good morning, eyo. Lucky indeed. Thanks for dropping in.

I'm sad my favorite taqueria closed, but happy about garbage
california duh
Edit: because why just be sad. The Teamsters still have no voicemail set up for the customer service number they never answer. So I went out Friday at the crack of doom and met the garbage truck driver on the street, told him he was my facebook because their phone number was broken. lol
He said, "the can is twice as big now, why complain?" like I want to make more garbage and not be charged? I don't know. Whatever, he asked me what street he was on as if he might remember to tell someone, I think everything is fine. I'm happy.
He became so cheerful when I greeted him with this salute. Right on, solidarity.
I'm beginning to feel
our labor unions (whats left of them) have become a microcosm of the country as a whole.

Thanks for the OT.
Neither Russia nor China is our enemy.
Neither Iran nor Venezuela are threatening America.
Cuba is a dead horse, stop beating it.
Definitely true of many, if not most, of them. Thanks for
bringing it up, we all need periodic reminders of facts like that.

I really enjoyed Kreutzmann's book,
Deal, very entertaining.
Have a nice day all.
We wanted decent healthcare, a living wage and free college.
The Democrats gave us Biden and war instead.
Good morning, Az. I still haven't read it, but I assume that
must be somewhat fascinating. Does he deal with the days on further?

Yeah, a little bit.
Chapter 2 is the one about Acid Tests, Kesey, Casady, Pranksters and etc.
I thought Kreutzmann's book was better than Lesh's. Too bad Jerry didn't write one.
I'm reading one now called Altamont by Joel Selvin. Came out in 2016. It's about the whole year leading up to that infamous concert that marked the end of the Sixties. Good read.
Yes, I spend a lot of time in the past.

Thanks. I knew they played for the acid test and that Jerry
was Captain Trips, but I didn't know if they were on the bus or not.

hello caucusers
It is a beautiful day here. We didn't get the rain they called for this weekend. It looks like RA's droughty conditions maybe headed to the SE. The four corners looks particularly hard hit...echos of the ancient ones and their time?

The grossbeaks have migrated onward so no big colorful gatherings like last week. Our resident gold finches still give us splashes of color. The summer tanagers fill the woods with their song, but they live in the treetops rarely coming down into view...except when we're playing music on the porch. They like to come down and see what's going on then.
Spectacular wild flowers this spring. I'm leaving the big field unmowed till mid June when the spring bloom is over. About time for the rhododendrons and laurel to crank up.
Well i hope you're all having a good spring show. I won't be around next Monday. I'm going to drive down to Montgomery for the gathering of the poor people's campaign.
https://www.poorpeoplescampaign.org/index.php/events/ The anniversary of the children's march in B'ham seemed well attended this weekend, but I didn't make it. (1.5 min)

Good afternoon, lookout. Glad you're having a nice day there.

Local Dems to DCCC: Butt Out
link
It's starting to happen here too.
Went to an AZ-02 candidate forum Thursday night. We have a huge field, 7 candidates so far, 3 of 'em solid progressives. The DCCC Red to Blue candidate did not show. You know that old saying, "Be there or be talked about." That's what happened. One of the progressive candidates said that the DCCC was meddling in our democracy, the audience cheered.
We wanted decent healthcare, a living wage and free college.
The Democrats gave us Biden and war instead.
Great story. A note about Adam "Russiagate" Schiff.
I think the insurgencies will be seen partially in the primaries, but even more so in the general election. I keep wondering what will happen to the progressives who in the primaries were cheated, defrauded, insulted, smeared, and pissed come November?
Hopefully run as Indies. n/t

"Top tier candidate"
What a fraud. It means he/she who brings the most money to the DCCC.
I still think our only recourse is to get every voter to vote for the candidate with the least amount of campaign funds.
Yes, that means guys like Corker. There's honesty in poverty.
If we can't get the money out of politics, lets make use of it. Let the establishment candidates paint themselves for who they really are.
The more money they have, the brighter they stand out as who not to vote for.
After all, Trump spent very little money campaigning and Sanders actually would have won had he/we not been cheated.
The money has already become a pariah, just look at how much money Clinton had/spent and still lost terribly.
I think alot of people are starting to see, one candidate with ten political ads an hour means this guys got way to much money behind him.
The constant ads by the monied candidates are starting to turn me off.
IMHO
Neither Russia nor China is our enemy.
Neither Iran nor Venezuela are threatening America.
Cuba is a dead horse, stop beating it.
Good idea
I think you had half of a good slogan for such a campaign:
If we can't get the money out of politics,
let's get the politics out of money
Beware the bullshit factories.
The Poor Candidate Party
Kinda says it all.

I think "Top Tier" means "Likely Loser"
