Today's number is 11

11 and its multiples generate fun fractions (more later)

11 is the smallest positive integer with a 3 syllable name
11 is the 5th prime and the smallest 2 digit prime
If a number is divisible by 11, so is its reverse, for example: 165 and 561
if no 2 consective digits of a number add up to more than nine, then multiplying it by eleven generates a number which is the reverse of the product of the original number's reverse multiplied by 11. Example: 15 x 11=165 and 51 x 11 = 651

OK, deep breath
11 goes into 99 exactly 9 times. As a result, the decimal expansion of any common fraction with 11 in the denominator will be a two digit infinite repeat.
1/11 = .09 repeated,
2/11 = .18 repeated,
3/11 = .27 repeated,
4/11 = .36 repeated, etc.
The repeating 2 digits are the product of the numerator and .09 for numerators less than 11. For example, 7 x .09 = .63, so 7/9 = .63 repeated indefinitely.

An 11 sided polygon is a hendecagon or an undecagon

11 is significant in Thelema
11 is a master number in Numerology

11 is a come out win at craps
11 is sodium

There are 11 players per side on the field at one time in soccer, cricket, field hockey and US style football

Stravinsky's "Rite of Spring", has 11 consecutive repetitions of the same chord.
Spinal Tap's amplifiers go up to eleven.
There is a Grateful Dead song named "The Eleven" which has an 11/8 time signature.

Lookout's picture

I live near US Highway 11 which runs the valley north of Lookout Mt.

U.S. Route 11 (US 11) is a signed north–south (while physically generally northeast-southwest) highway United States highway extending 1,645 miles[2] (2,647 km) across the eastern United States. The southern terminus of the route is at U.S. Route 90 in the Bayou Sauvage National Wildlife Refuge in eastern New Orleans, Louisiana. The northern terminus is at the Rouses Point - Lacolle 223 Border Crossing in Rouses Point, New York. The route continues across the border into Canada as Quebec Route 223. US 11, created in 1926, largely follows the route of the original plan.

It is sometimes called the Lee Highway. We like to play this tune. It is supposed to sound like going up an down the mountains. (I like the line...why is man born to die?)

Another cool beautiful day here. There's still a few pockets of snow left in the shadows, but I look for them to melt later today...50 degree temp later on.

Hope you are not dealing with any of the fires, el. Sure looks bad on the news. Have y'all started your winter rains, or is it starting out another dry winter? It is really dry here for December. This is normally one of our wettest months, but not this year.

Hope you all have a good day whatever your weather!

@Lookout
fun too. The big fires are way south of us, but some odd offshore circulation is bringing some of the smoke up here an back in. That's almost 400 miles. We had one brief, wet, storm right after the Napa/Sonoma fires, and then dry ever since.

Every Monday, when I read your OT, I think of the numbers in a numerology sense. 11 is a master number, so let's all be masterful today!

It's been cold here. We start out in the teens/low twenties and climb to the 50's. Looks like no moisture is on the horizon for a couple of weeks. (Since I'm traveling 12/26, it will probably be a blizzard by then.) Raggedy Andy had to haul water this weekend as we've depleted all of our stored water. He brought 3,000 gallons. We need rain and/or snow, soon.

Great music selection today - thanks!

Only nine more working days until the university closes for the break and then I'll be off for a couple weeks - counting the days!

Have a beautiful Monday, folks! Pleasantry

into the mid-thirties overnight and I'm not at all pleased with that. Sorry to hear about your water situation. Hope you get the weather you want. Have a good one.
