Making a mountain out of a mole hill (Cuba)

As if the US doesn't have enough on its plate including China (Taiwan), Russia, Belarus, Yemen, Afghanistan, Haiti etc. Now we get Cuba.

Biden: US 'stands firmly with the people of Cuba

U.S. officials are moving quickly to throw their support behind protesters in Cuba who have put communist leaders on the defensive amid dissatisfaction with the economy and food shortages.

The protests -- the largest in decades -- come as COVID-19 has crippled Cuba’s tourism economy and as power blackouts and food lines renew dissatisfaction in a country where dissent has historically been repressed.

“The Cuban people are demanding their freedom from an authoritarian regime. I don’t think we’ve seen anything like these protests in a long long time if, quite frankly ever,” President Biden said at the White House Monday, reiterating an earlier statement backing the rights of protesters.

The State Department, in a call with congressional staff, said there were protests in 45 cities across the island, with tens of thousands participating, a Capitol Hill aide told The Hill. Another congressional aide familiar with the call said scattered protests continued Monday throughout the country, though on a smaller scale.

War mongering ignoramuses that aren't half as intelligent as such a team needs be.

An off-the-wall consideration of the Haitian assassination - could it have been a test of a new and improved US regime change operation? Haiti would be perfect for a test run because 1) it doesn't matter 2) it's always in one sort of mess or another. It didn't go according to plan. May not have included assassinating Moise, but operationally that would seem to be the preferred objective. What the perps weren't supposed to do was get captured and any deaths weren't supposed to point in anyway to the US. Next stop, once perfected, was Cuba as regime operations go somewhat better when a country is under increased economic stress.

But soon pro-government protesters turned out in larger numbers than the anti-government protesters. Apart from a few scuffles nothing happened and today everything seems to be back to normal.
I consider the whole thing to have been a trial run for some bigger plans. But the operators behind this must feel disappointed. The turnout on the anti-government side was lousy.

of the government? NO! Of course not! He and his little CIA are probably bankrolling the protests. Oh, but he is going after Big Ag, Big Tech, Big Balls - get a grip - we are regime changers - that's what America is all about. We kill our own people who protest but bankroll those that protest in other countries.

This shit is being done in our name! WAKE UP AMERICA!

@humphrey the protests in Cuba probably shouldn't be dismissed. It requires someone more knowledgeable than me to read them correctly.

@Marie They were also in Hong Kong, Belarus, Russia, Venezuela which get plenty of MSM coverage.

Protests in support of left wing supporters protesting in Yemen, Bolivia, Chile, Nicaragua get bupkas as far as far as the MSM is concerned.

Go figure!

@humphrey in foreign countries isn't that difficult to figure out. And isn't exactly what I was looking to get a read on.

With a few exceptions, there's not much interest within the US general public for any news about other countries. No eyeballs, no coverage. Large natural disasters get lots of media attention.

There are many variables in play for US MSM coverage of anti-government protests in foreign countries. The governments in foreign countries may be 1) US Inc aligned 2) neither aligned nor unaligned 3) unaligned and 4) USG designated as hostile. A dozen or so protesters in #4 gets coverage (ie Hong Kong). Tens of thousands in #1 gets little to no coverage (ie France Yellow Vests).

Iran (1978), a #1 country, MSM coverage was limited for the first six months of protests that were quickly getting larger. As the Shah flailed, coverage somewhat increased. Coverage only kicked into high gear when the Shah fled and the overthrow was complete. That was one year from the initial organized protests to completion.

Tunisia - mostly #3 - indigenous protests ignored until the President fled to KSA. Twenty-eight days from start to completion. Not enough time for the MSM and affiliated countries to get their boots on. (Would guess that there was more coverage in Italy.)

In addition to a country's status in relation to the US, 1) there's USG and US affiliates willingness and ability to intervene, 2) intervention by other non-US aligned countries, and 3) foreign financial support for the protestors. At the outer limit there's the foreign "all in" overthrow position. On that last one, if it's a quick slam dunk for US Inc, limited MSM coverage is preferred until the mission is accomplished.

Assassination of a country's president or prime minister gets covered regardless of the above variables. Hence the media coverage of Moise's death. The denunciation of the assassination by Biden and other world leaders and the silence from other world leaders isn't telling. Although Biden does want his comment to be read as "not us," which may or may not be true.

Consider the silence by POTUS wrt Ladies in White protests and arrests. They have received USG funding. What does Biden's statement about the Cuban protests mean? Just following his predecessor's lead in denouncing the Cuban government instead of following "my Boss'" lead?
Or have the Cuban overthrow covert operations been ramped up and these protests were the first volley?

@humphrey posting. Other CNN photos are all of the protests in Havana. While not the same photo, this one at CNN - Live in 24 is from Miami and clearly labeled as such. Might be more of a twitter-verse blooper than CNN
