So another centrist, former banker preaching labor reforms and austerity was what France needed?
A year later the people of France say 'no'.
Only 23 percent of those surveyed reported a favorable opinion of Macron in September, down from 27 percent last month, the YouGov poll for Le Huff Post and CNEWS found.
...
The former investment banker has sold his pro-business reform drive on promises that it will boost growth and jobs, but many voters ranging from conservative pensioners to low-income workers complain his policies mostly benefit companies and the rich. His government has repeatedly shrugged off poor poll ratings, insisting it will not waver on the reform agenda as politically sensitive overhauls of unemployment insurance and pensions loom in the months ahead.
Trump is more popular than Macron.
And now the far-right is on the move again.
As a result, Marine Le Pen’s far-right Front National party, recently rebranded as National Rally, is now close to overtaking Mr Macron’s En Marche outfit in the polls. The good news for the far-right comes just months ahead of European Parliament elections next year that will decide the course the EU takes for the next half decade.
Just 20 per cent of voters would vote for Mr Macron’s En Marche party in the elections, with 17 per cent for the far-right. Close behind are the centre-right Republicans, on 15 per cent, and on 14 per cent France Insoumise, the left-wing populist vehicle of firebrand socialist Jean-Luc Mélenchon.
