The latest viral anti-Biden video makes me livid...but not at HIM

I just got this from Movement for a People's Party:

In a stunning recently-leaked video, Joe Biden is heard telling civil rights leaders that they should be satisfied with his rhetorical acknowledgment and expect nothing more. Biden screams at them saying that he will not be using his executive powers to stand up for the Black community that worked hard to elect him — or any other working-class community. This is a huge development because progressives had rested what little hope they had for Biden on the possibility of executive orders — hopes that Biden just smashed as he said he would only be undoing Trump orders.

The video they link to is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXznNSMX43Y&feature=youtu.be

Did you see it? It's just an easy 1:25 long.

Here's what's weird: If somebody spoke this way to me, I would think it was reasonable. This doesn't sound like "screaming at them" to me.
Now, you know me around here and how I feel about Biden and his ilk - but if this were all I knew about him, it would make him seem very reasonable - even heroic.

"The Constitution is our only hope" - damned straight it is, pardner...but, uhmmm *polite nebbishy cough* are you aware, sir, that your bosom-buddy George W Bush famously insisted it was "just a goddamn piece of paper"? The cow's been way the hell out of the barn for *at least* 12 years. Why the hell aren't you shipping him to the Hague rather than cuddling with him and hiring from his cabinet of mass-murderers??? Where was your love for the Constitution when you wrote the Bill-of-Rights-shredding "Omnibus Counterterrorism Bill"?

You don't see that here, though; from this video that is supposed to make us so angry, perhaps even finally convert some of the partisan barnacles who have clung to "my name is not Donald J. Trump" even after the decades of despicable work in Congress, stealing the primary, Tara Reade, videos of him that Twitter considers to be "child pornography" (this by itself would be semi-objective proof that the moral standards of the corporate media are lower than those of 4Chan), dementia, and his strange and mystical ability to drain the melanin from the skin of any who refuse to vote for him, you don't see ANY of that here.

Why are people getting upset about THIS and not the things they SHOULD be livid about?

Are my standards for how others speak to me far too low, or are others' far too high??? I've taken MUCH worse than this; if I complained for somebody speaking to me this way, I'd be torn down just for complaining.

I don't like anybody anymore; I have spent DECADES of my life now prioritizing civic duty over personal fulfillment; I have studied issues, read infuriating book after depressing article, put my personal career aspirations on hold to earn a degree covering just about all the fields one would need to understand how society works, allowed pleading, woe-betiding PACs to dominate my E-mail inbox (some of what I got between 2015-2018 was TRULY ludicrous, hysterical, and even downright creepy, like the blubbering, emotional fundraising E-mails I got in 2016 that looked like they were written by a C-average 8th-grader who'd just discovered how to use the size and color functions in Microsoft Word, OR when one of the mainstream all-purpose-progressive PACs that had been sending me a lot of stuff decided one day it was worth their time and mine to make me "pledge" to go see Marvel's Black Panther movie as if watching a big-budget Hollywood superhero flick were equivalent to going to North Dakota for the Standing Rock protests or something), and given a small fortune in donations out of the pure goodness of my heart when the fact is I haven't got much money to begin with and I've spent so long helping the needy that I've BECOME one of "the needy", and my payoff now, for all that, is to be COMPLETELY alienated from the discourse; I might as well be trying to participate in the politics of a country I've never been to, where I have no rights (much less "privileges") or earned status of my own, whose officially-enforced language is a degenerate, high-context, vocabulary-poor pidgin that must be driving George Lakoff to drink.

Black Lives Matter, and ye shall smite any who neither sign nor bow before the shibboleth.
My life? Oh, it never even happened....

even heroic

Condisending is my view.
He is an extension of all who presided before him.
He may have been voted into a possition but it is one he can not run.
Arrogant ignoramus is a better explanation of his current mindset.
Perhaps I should feel sorrow for him.
He's being used by some of the most powerful and ruthless in the world and his wife is one of them.
Sadly, he will never know it.
Hopefully he is cremated as that will be one less grave to piss on.

@Pricknick ...based on this clip alone, if one knew nothing about him otherwise.

Like I said, I would never have thought of that as 'condescending' if someone spoke that way to me. Even setting Biden and all the other political malefactors aside, that must mean that something is wrong with...someone. Is it me, though, or someone else? I have no idea what the proper standards ought to be anymore, or how to determine and set them in a manner that doesn't just completely screw SOMEONE. One person's "basic decency" is another person's "toxic behavior", and vice-versa, et cetera.

@The Liberal Moonbat

When one said that he was concerned about who Biden was picking for his cabinet and he basically went off on spiel that never addressed their concerns, but tooted his own horn? Not sure how that could be missed.

I posted this video last week with a transcript of what he said.

Not much of a discussion on what Biden said, but instead a push for another party.

Which AIPAC/MIC/pharma/bank bought politician are you going to vote for? Don’t be surprised when nothing changes.

He is far too stupid and has onset dementia to accomplish any worthwhile goals using executive orders. So Trump abused this mechanism?

Trump - 193
Kennedy - 214 in three years
Clinton - 364
Nixon - 346
Warren Harding - 522
Taft - 724
Truman - 907
Woodrow Wilson - 1903
FDR - 3728

It sounds to me that Biden is hiding behind his version of the Constitution to excuse his lack
of vision and courage. I do think that he is being aggressive, nasty and condescending.

@The Wizard He was the POFT we really saw people start talking about executive orders under; it seemed like it was the only way he ever got anything done (Big Finance and Morgoth getting their way as a matter of course notwithstanding); what about Dubya's, for that matter? We managed to at least slow down the Bush Regime near the end there, but for the most part they did whatever the fuck they wanted (and I will always remember that for demonstrating to me just how much potential for action and change our government truly possesses when people decide it can, no matter what the "realists" or those who dismiss government as benign/ineffectual/unimportant may claim); did he even need to issue executive orders? "Signing statements" were a big thing with him; nobody talks about those anymore. What Biden's saying to these people kind of echoes Obama saying early on that he would not do signing statements as POFT (he stuck to that as far as I'm aware, but what do I know???).

It looks like Nixon and Clinton should be flipped in your sequence, by the way; kinda bugs me.

Yes and Clinton had more than Nixon, the numbers are right but they are listed out of order, sorry about that.

Obama didn't actually do much and that's why his number is lower than expected. Also It includes executive orders like closing Gitmo concentration camp.

Executive Order 13492, titled Review and Disposition of Individuals Detained at the Guantánamo Bay Naval Base and Closure of Detention Facilities, is an Executive Order that was signed by United States President Barack Obama on 22 January 2009, ordering the closure of the Guantanamo Bay detention camp in Cuba.

Because there was absolutely no follow-through and no attempt to take any of the preliminary measures (transferring or releasing prisoners, etc.) that were necessary. It was like issuing an Executive Order that the moon shall be made of green cheese.

@TheOtherMaven ...if that's the case, how do we know ANYBODY'S executive orders EVER got followed if people can just ignore them?

In the case of Obama re Gitmo, I suspect his EO was simply to satisfy some campaign rhetoric (as he was famously caught remarking in front of a live mic). He and his backers didn't really give a damn whether it was closed. In fact, they'd rather it was open ...and, of course, it still is open. So those who would do the closing were his own folks. A totally different story if some EO applied to you and me.

Obama wrote it, was in charge of implementing it (or not), and in charge of enforcement ...which they simply ignored. Toothless words.

He is ending the coming requests and arguments by telling these leaders and activists what he will not do, so end of argument, people. Shut up and go home.
Everything Biden does nowadays is arrogant and condescending.

He was close enough to "screaming" at these people to make his case and it made me cringe. It brought to mind all the videos of him challenging people to "take it outside" with him, poking people in the chest to make his point and telling people asking hard questions that they are full of shit. He's aggressive and nasty and he's a bully. I don't blame the People's Party at all for characterizing his interactions in that meeting as out of control.

Or some of the other commentators who have done clips on it. Biden may not have been screaming, but he was definitely in full on bluster mode. He had some of the top civil rights leaders coming to him with their concerns, at his invitation, and he proceeded to tell them how it really was. He made absurd claims of his own record, how he was the first to do this and the only one to recognize that. Instead of listening, he got defensive. What’s more, he made statements putting the black community against the Latinos as if this is a zero sum game.

So yeah, your linked clip may be oversold but this call was hard to watch and not be put off. Biden was downright Trumpian in the way he was talking to these leaders who he’s supposed to be representing and working with. Watching the full call, it’s really hard to defend the attitude, anger and barely checked contempt Biden is exhibiting.

to my ears, Biden sounds like a total asshole, plain and simple. No he does not "scream" at them, obviously that is an unwarranted exaggeration. But he is lecturing, rude, and extremely condescending, he assumes the people he is talking to somehow are expecting him to violate the constitution (!) and that they really need to be given a good talking to from someone above them who knows better. Like a nasty old school principle or retired cop or something. Ick.

The thing is, Biden always sounds like this. He is an aggressive bully. I can't stand listening to him and I do not get why anyone finds him affable.

As for him crushing everyone's hope... well, boo hoo. Like I've said before, Biden made it clear a long time ago that no one should be hoping for jack shit from him. Why anyone did is beyond me. This is who he is.

@CS in AZ I was just about to edit my comment above yours and add that this is no surprise at all to anyone whose been paying attention. I don’t know how to feel watching the various interest groups getting hit in real time with what we all saw coming, given these are people who’s stated goals I agree with. But all I can do is sigh as I see the outrage over this or his appointments or whatever else from the same people who told us to vote blue and we’d push them left.

@Dr. John Carpenter

that NOW isn't the time to push him left. Why? Oh you know the reasons. You should because you've heard them so many times.

Not yet because:
1- the elections in Georgia
2- we don't even know how Biden will be cuz he's not in office yet.
3- we are trying to work with republicans to come over to our side. Seems to have happened already since there was a leaked call from Biden saying that some republicans said to wait patiently and 6-8 months down the line they will work with him.
4- the midterms are around the corner.
5- all of the ones you've already heard.

Speaking to #1 if democrats wanted to win Georgia they would be highlighting the $15 min wage and other things dems could offer people there. Like what Florida voted for. But does anyone not think that dems would breathe a sigh of relief if the senate stayed in the GOP's hands?

This is my answer to those who wonder if the dems rigged the vote why didn't they rig it so that they could have the senate or at least not lose seats in the house. Alrighty then did anyone see dems do any hand wringing when they lost it during 0's turn? Nope. Zero kept blaming 'Congress' and never called out McConnell's obstruction. Pelosi and McConnell have big shoulders to wear the yoke of people's contention.

There's no need to exaggerate the problems he poses.

Step 1: get rid of Trump. So far, so good
Step 2: get rid of Biden.

By the way, as a former resident of San Francisco I'm dismayed that Pelosi keeps getting re-elected. Come on, City! Vote her out!
