Kremlin accuses US of meddling in election

Finally, some election "hacking" that sounds legitimate.

An expected US report that could sanction Kremlin-linked oligarchs is an attempt to influence Russia's March presidential election, Moscow has said.
The US treasury report is expected to detail the closeness of senior Russian political figures and oligarchs to President Vladimir Putin, who is standing for re-election.
US officials accuse Russia of meddling in the 2016 US presidential elections.

Why do I think that this accusation has more legitimacy? Because we have a history of doing it.

In a little-known quirk of post-cold war history, the 1996 re-election campaign of Putin’s mentor, Boris Yeltsin, was secretly managed by three American political consultants who on more than one occasion allegedly received direct assistance from Bill Clinton’s White House.

There’s even a movie about it.

The 2003 comedy film Spinning Boris dramatises the true story of three American consultants who were hired to manage Yeltsin’s 1996 re-election campaign.

Hilarious when we do it. Worthy of nuclear war when there is even the slightest hint of Russia doing it.

And, of course, when all else fails, and we simply don't approve of the Russian government, we declare war and invade. Well, maybe just invade.
Which would explain why Russians consider the U.S. their greatest enemy, and are defiant in the face of our sanctions.

Update:

The Trump administration has declined to impose sanctions against companies and foreign countries doing business with blacklisted Russian defense and intelligence entities.

Democrat heads are about to explode

The conspiracists seem to believe that hitting hard against oligarchs associated with Putin will turn them against him in this and future Russian elections. But then on the other hand, the same conspiracists believe that Putin kills every opponent. So there you go.

CIA predicts the future

The director of the CIA expects that Russia will target the US mid-term elections later this year.

Mike Pompeo told the BBC there had been no significant diminishing of Russian attempts at subversion in Europe and the US.

@gjohnsit I imagine if the dems fail to gain the House or various state houses, the dems will go into full scape-goating mode. It will changing vote totals, bots and FB ads which turned people into gop zombies, etc. I imagine the Russian hysteria will go super heated from Oct. to about Jan.

As for charges claiming vote count tampering, that will go nowhere as state election officials cried "bullshit" when Homeland security claimed intrusions last year.

A Progressive Reformist Is Leading Mexico’s Presidential Polls—and Washington Is Freaking Out
The rise of Andrés Manuel López Obrador has sparked hysterical fears of anti-US populism and claims of Russian “interference.”

s trouble brewing south of the Rio Grande? Have Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin gotten together to support the emergence of a “populist dictator” in the upcoming Mexican elections? Is the present front-runner for the presidency, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, the Mexican equivalent of Venezuela’s Hugo Chávez or Nicolás Maduro?

A series of articles and opinions published by the Council on Foreign Relations, The Washington Post, The New York Times, Politico, The Atlantic, and The Economist, among others, have pushed these ideas recently into the mainstream of international public opinion, creating a surprising bipartisan consensus in Washington. Both Clintonites, like Larry Summers, and top officials in the Trump administration, like H.R. McMaster, already have issued paranoid public warnings on the topic.

Why is Washington freaking out?
Populist Mexican presidential candidate Lopez Obrador spooking investors as NAFTA talks heat up

So what is the response?
The prospect of Russian meddling in Mexico’s election is no joke

Opponents of mob boss Putin have an unfortunate tendency to step off tall buildings just as their campaign gets going. Now, Trump would want to intervene to support Putin (aka Trump's bookie). Best of luck to Putin's opponent. We can't even appeal to God for help, because the insane Russian Orthodox Church loves them some boss Putin as well.

@gjohnsit But all told, Trump and Putin, two peas in the Mafia pod, and a curse on both of their houses. They both need to go away.

I'm astonished that you think gjohnsit's response to your comment was in the style of DKOS. In fact your comment is the one most reminiscent of DKOS since you are pushing #Russiagate. That's why the jab at Karl Rove.

I suspect a lot of people are at C99 are of a similar mindset to me on #Russiagate. We have not seen any externally verifiable evidence to support any claims whatsoever related to #Russiagate. Further, the claims themselves are both nebulous and ever-changing. So if you'd like to propose a credible #Russiagate theory please go ahead. Make sure your allegations are clear and testable. If you use the word "collusion" make sure you state specifically the nature of the arrangement you are suspicious of. Make sure the evidence you provide is similarly verifiable.

While I cannot speak for anyone else here, I can tell you that I would LOVE to hear a testable theory regarding #Russiagate and then the supporting evidence which verifies it. I would like to believe that the Democratic party isn't so far fallen that it is willing to play with global thermonuclear annihilation in order to score a few cheap political points. So please... enlighten me.
