Kamala Harris: a dangerous Democrat

Today I was awakened by my iPhone chirping a new message from my news app:

Trump hearings launch Kamala Harris

Oops!

From her first days on Capitol Hill, Sen. Kamala Harris has been winning kudos from progressives, beginning when she became one of only 11 senators to vote against the confirmation of General John Kelly to head the Department of Homeland Security.

She is as progressive as Markos Moulitsas. She may be intelligent, good-looking (sexism warning), and anti-Trump but that's where her political appeal ends. If all it takes is to be rabidly anti-Trump to make you a political star, then why didn't the Evil Queen conquer the Orangutang? Being anti-Trump is simply not good enough. There must be substance other than being against something.

The fluff piece from Politico continues:

On Wednesday, Harris’ team skillfully seized on her budding profile, sending out a fundraising letter titled “They told me to be courteous.”

Her pitch: “This is hardly the first time the GOP has done this — let us not forget when they silenced my friend and colleague Elizabeth Warren for trying to read a letter from Coretta Scott King about Jeff Sessions. … Well here is the truth: I will not be silenced. We will not be silenced. The American people, who deserve the truth, will not be silenced. Not when the faith and integrity of our democracy is at stake.”

This is hypocritical horseshit. Kampala is anything but honest. She is corrupt and I will provide a small sample of this below. As someone's sigline here says "Don't tell me what you believe, what you do shows me what you believe."

Here is the supreme horseshit:

She argued that as California's top cop, “when I was fighting the big banks for the people

Fighting against the big banks, KH, is that what you call it? I call it not just dereliction of duty but betrayal of public trust.

Here's a picture of her. "Let's move to the right"

From an L.A. Times, known to be a wildly progressive news outlet (s/) comes this article likening Kamala Harris as the Democratic Moses:

We can’t afford to be purists,” Harris said. “You have to ask that question of yourself: Are we going to be purists to this resistance to the point that you We can’t afford to be purists,” Harris said. “You have to ask that question of yourself: Are we going to be purists to this resistance to the point that you let these guys go?

What guys are you talking about? Donald Trump and only Donald Trump? What about the vicious battle you waged against the current Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin? Surely you remember Steve, you know, the foreclosure king.

Here's some information about Steven Mnuchin

ONEWEST BANK, WHICH Donald Trump’s nominee for treasury secretary, Steven Mnuchin, ran from 2009 to 2015, repeatedly broke California’s foreclosure laws during that period, according to a previously undisclosed 2013 memo from top prosecutors in the state attorney general’s office...

In the memo, the leaders of the state attorney general’s Consumer Law Section said they had “uncovered evidence suggestive of widespread misconduct” in a yearlong investigation. In a detailed 22-page request, they identified over a thousand legal violations in the small subsection of OneWest loans they were able to examine, and they recommended that Attorney General Kamala Harris file a civil enforcement action against the Pasadena-based bank. ..

But Harris’s office, without any explanation, declined to prosecute the case.

Well, at first the vocal KH seemed to be at a loss for words:

But the investigation into what the memo called “widespread misconduct” was closed after Harris’s office declined to file a civil enforcement action against the bank.

Harris’s statement on Tuesday doesn’t explain how involved she was with the decision to not prosecute, or why the decision was made.

A day later, KH regained her speaking abilities, a medical disorder known as political aphasia:

“We went and we followed the facts and the evidence, and it’s a decision my office made,” Harris told The Hill. “We pursued it just like any other case. We go and we take a case wherever the facts lead us.”

Does this sound a little bit like James the Weasel Comey's "no reasonable prosecutor" BS?

The Soros - Mnuchin - Harris connection:

Kamala Harris’ indiscretions at California Attorney General have exposed an embarrassing case of corruption at the start of her career in the senate.

Coincidentally, before Harris passed on the opportunity to file action against OneWest Bank, one of its owners, prolific Democratic Party donor George Soros was pouring money into California for California Criminal Policy Initiatives.

In 2014, Soros and hedge fund billionaire John Paulson sold OneWest for $3.4 billion. In 2015 Soros maxed out a donation to Harris’ Senate bid.

What makes Harris’ campaign donations and her decision to not go after OneWest Bank even more suspicious is that despite Mnuchin primarily donating to Republicans, his only donation to a Democrat in 2016 happened to be to Kamala Harris.

The article goes on to state than Mnuchin's then-wife Heather contributed $8,750 to KH in 2010. In the same year the Mnuchin-led OneWest Bank contributed 6500 to KH.

But wait, there's more! While digging into the Seth Rich Assassination matter (part 2 to be published soon) I came across an interesting "tidbit" as James Clapper is fond of saying.

The video is 29:30 long but contains useful information, not only about "progressive" KH and her sister Maya Harris but also about one of KH's trusted aides. The aide likes to play dress up in police uniforms and barge into California police stations pretending to be a visiting police chief. People are often judged by their associates. Yeah, yeah, I know, guilt by association. But too many associations to dispel the strong odor of corruption.

Kamala Harris is bad for California and bad for America.

@HenryAWallace when the chair and co-chair of the committee made their opening statements, I almost turned it off because the hypocrisy from both sides was so overwhelming. When they started talking about democracy, it was just too much. We have lost any semblance of democracy since the Patriot Act. Before 9/11, the veneer was just thick enough to cover up the slime, which is now exuding in plain sight.

@Alligator Ed

because the illusion of democracy is crucial to them:

We have not lost democracy. We never had it.

We were constituted a republic, not a democracy. Originally, we were a republic with very limited suffrage. Over time, we expanded suffrage, but we never altered the form of government. We remain a republic. We have never been a democracy. And, as long as we keep conflating suffrage and democracy, we never will be a democracy. People don't fight to become that which they imagine they already are or fight to get that which they imagine they already have. And that is why I repeat myself on this subject endlessly.

Quite correct. Maybe I should strip the word democracy from my lexicon of American politics. Republic, pseudo-democracy, magic illusion, or whatever. @HenryAWallace

Incorrect:

People don't fight to become that which they imagine they already are or fight to get that which they imagine they already have.

People DO fight for what they think they have because of cradle-to-(early) grave propaganda.

A huge amount of propaganda has long been devoted to brainwashing Americans into believing the Big Lie that the USA is a democracy and that we go to war to defend democracy or to "spread" democracy abroad. In reality. we should be going to war to get democracy and to severely restrict the power of our corrupt, selected unrepresentatives.

Thanks for the informative essay. I thought Harris over-acted and was badgering Comey in the clips I saw, hard to watch. Too bad the Chair didn't tell her "Elections have consequences", that would have been funny Kabuki after all, not so pathetic. "Trump hearings launch Kamala Harris" indeed!

Feinstein asking Comey (paraphrasing) "You're big and strong, why didn't you stand up to Trump?" really lit my Feminist Identity on fire. Woo! Thank you Mrs. Richard "Dick" Blum. another republican-lite candidate. Nope, no how, no way in hell. I unfortunately believed Obama when he said he would hold the banks accountable and all his other lies he told.
I should have looked deeper into his past because I would have seen him for what he really was.
Harris has shown that she can be bought by anyone and that IMO, makes her no better than anyone who sells themselves. I'm sure we all know what the word for people like her is.
She had a slam dunk case against One West Bank and instead of helping thousands of people who were losing their homes, she only helped herself. Her actions went further than just California. She talked other AGs into joining a class action lawsuit that Holder was doing and we know how that turned out. How many people did her decision end up losing everything that they had because she let them down?
There was once a time when people would be able to see her for who she is, but too many people have drunk the neoliberal kook aid.
As ggersh wrote, she's a female version of O. Shorter and sweet.

snoopydawg's picture

The Democratic Party has been run into the ground by its leadership to the point where they don’t have enough votes to oppose any of Trump’s nominees, and a rule they changed in 2013 stripped them of their ability to filibuster any of the nominations. Between Jimmy Carter’s presidency in 1977 to Barack Obama, only six nominees have ever failed to be approved for confirmation.

I feel that the democrats losing so many seats in congress was by design and deliberate. They started losing seats in 2010 and that was when Obama appointed DWS to run the DNC. Under her leadership they continued to not run good candidates or they ran none at all. The republicans ran unopposed in too many elections to make that be a coincidence that they wanted to hold on to their majority.
For what reason would they deliberately put themselves in a position to not being able to use the filibuster? Seriously, can anyone answer that?
Now they are in no position to block the republicans legislation. Hell, they didn't even try to block Trump's cabinet appointments. Except for DeVos who in all honesty is just continuing what Arne Duncan did as Obama's education secretary.
But to vote for the other picks is just damned inexcusable!
Warren said she voted for Carson because she was afraid that someone worse might be nominated. Who the F'cking hell could be worse than a brain surgeon running the housing department?
They aren't even trying to hide their actions. Full on "where else are you going to go?

thru the Tea Party assault on America in 2010 was, "why isn't Obama standing up to these futhermuckers, standing up for his "signature" "legacy" legislation? Not once during the entire 2010 campaign did he stand up for himself and his health care Plan and say, "wait a second, assfucks... I said wait a second," and defend himself and his Plan. Instead... crickets. Instead, he allowed the Teabagger assfucks to run roughshod over himself and his Plan. Result: Dems got their asses handed to them, becuz Obama didn't give them any cover. Becuz they couldn't defend ObamaCare becuz he didn't. Now, that should have been a clue for me, but I continued to support the traitor for another four years. Wasn't until after the 2014 election that it finally sunk in that Obama was a sellout. [sigh]

Instead, we have people like Warren "very troubled" by these picks but still rubber stamping because (to paraphrase as I can't remember her actual quote) the President deserves to have the cabinet he wants. And they can't understand why progressives won't get on board. Unreal!

after the House republicans tore up the weak Dodd Frank act, the democrats in the Senate said that they are OPEN to working with the republicans on this.
Again, WTF??? The republicans went on record after Obama won and said that they were going to make him a one term president. And they followed that up with their actions by voting no on every damn piece of legislation he said 'he wanted to pass'. And instead of using his bully pulpit or standing strong, he rolled over and would give them more than they were asking for.
But now that the shoe is on the other foot with the worst president ever and the republicans holding both houses, the f'cking democrats say that they are OPEN TO WORKING WITH HIM AND THEM? As I stated, they aren't even trying.

Kamala Harris thinks prisoners are just a labor pool
The upcoming neoliberal presidential candidate who is being groomed for 20/20 doesn't have a problem with prisoners being paid $.08 to $.34 per hour.
The democrats are having a bad week after this article from 2014 has been rediscovered and is back in the news again and is being spread on social media. Then there's Hillary being okay with Black prisoners working at the Arkansas governor's mansion.

Prisoners are part of the labor pool

Lawyers for Attorney General Kamala Harris had argued in court that if forced to release these inmates early, prisons would lose an important labor tool.

That is an astounding argument, implies that the "justice" system is simply a means for acquiring slave labor and has nothing to do with so-called law and order.
Not to mention if they are forced to release inmates early it affects their profit - unless of course they can replace them with new prisoners.. (Empty prisons aren't profitable)

History
The Conservation Camp Program was initiated by CDCR to provide able-bodied inmates the opportunity to work on meaningful projects throughout the state. The CDCR road camps were established in 1915. During World War II much of the work force that was used by the Division of Forestry (now known as CalFire), was depleted. The CDCR provided the needed work force by having inmates occupy "temporary camps" to augment the regular firefighting forces. There were 41 “interim camps” during WWII, which were the foundation for the network of camps in operation today. In 1946, the Rainbow Conservation Camp was opened as the first permanent male conservation camp. Rainbow made history again when it converted to a female camp in 1983. The Los Angeles County Fire Department (LAC), in contract with the CDCR, opened five camps in Los Angeles County in the 1980's.
