Just how pathetic are the Democrats?

So Trump gave his Afghanistan speech to justify his pointless mini-surge.
The New Yorker called Trump's strategy Neither Bold, Nor New, Nor a Strategy.
Politico says Only one thing was clear after President Trump’s vague speech: Nobody knows what to do.
Except for the right-wing media, Trump's strategy and speech were universally panned.

What's more, the public is overwhelmingly against sending more troops to Afghanistan, including 80% of Democratic voters.

Most Americans, in fact, oppose the idea of increasing troop levels in Afghanistan. In June, Fox News polled Americans and found that the proposal was opposed by a 2-to-1 margin.

So an immensely unpopular president proposes an immensely unpopular troop surge to an immensely unpopular war.

How do you think the opposition party (i.e. the McResistance) responded?

A handful of progressive Democrats in Congress are attacking President Donald Trump’s decision to escalate American military involvement in Afghanistan.
But many congressional Democrats are — for now, at least — either staying silent on the Afghanistan buildup or focusing their criticism of Trump on the fact that he hasn’t released more details of his new military plan.

Hurrah! The War Party wins again!

For now, most congressional Democrats and center-left think tanks have criticized Trump for not coming up with a more comprehensive plan, bolstering the state department’s diplomatic efforts in the country, or seeking congressional approval. But in spite of those criticisms, most Democrats have largely stopped short of demanding that Trump bring the troops home from a 16-year war that’s now the longest in the country’s history.
...Rhode Island Sen. Jack Reed in a statement. "... I know Americans are weary of the war in Afghanistan. President Trump has a duty to set a clear strategy for Afghanistan. Tonight's speech is a long overdue step, but more important will be the details and an accompanying commitment by this President going forward."

That's telling him!
And then comes the real stab in the back.

Still, the other Senate Democrats rumored to have White House ambitions in 2020 have fallen silent. As of noon on Thursday, many of the senators widely seen as likely to run in the next presidential race — Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Kamala Harris, and Cory Booker — had not spoken out over reports that Trump would send 4,000 more troops into Afghanistan.

Even Indivisible, hardly a radical group says, "Democrats who remain silent on this will be tacitly condoning Trump's warmongering.”

Democrats hate, hate, HATE Trump...except when he's warmongering.
Like when he's bombing Syria.
In fact, Democrats are absolutely swooning over the very worst war criminals and warmongers the Republican Party has created.

You want to be bipartisan in Washington? Then kill some brown-skinned civilians overseas. Everyone loves that.

Because they will only have to answer questions from the MSM... and the MSM has zero interest in this topic.

So, the real question needs to be, why is Trump trying to tarnish Obama's legacy by sending TOO FEW troops to Iraq. (Oh come on, you know somebody has floated this one at a strategy meeting...)

Why did Hillary lose? The anti-war vote

And this

When a prominent Washington peace activist was asked recently to name the leading anti-interventionists in the Senate, he responded, “Rand Paul and Mike Lee,” both Republicans. Democrats are in the midst of a furious struggle over what they stand for and who is included in their coalition, yet on foreign policy questions, their silence is deafening...
The Democratic establishment’s record on foreign policy has been disastrous. Most Democratic leaders supported the war of choice in Iraq, the largest foreign policy debacle since Vietnam. They cheered the “humanitarian intervention” in Libya that has ended in the humanitarian horror of a ruined country, racked by violent conflicts, where the Islamic State is consolidating a backup caliphate. They applauded President Barack Obama’s surge in Afghanistan even as that war dragged on year after year. They touted the United States as the “indispensable nation,” demonstrating a predilection for military intervention and regime change that rivals that of Republican neoconservatives. Many considered Obama too weak and too wary of intervention, despite the fact that he left office bombing seven nations, dispatching Special Operations forces to more than 120 countries and calling for increased spending on a military that already consumes nearly 40 percent of the world’s military budget.

His mercenary army would love to get a piece of that. Then no US soldiers would have to go, ending any "unwillingness" by Americans to send their loved ones over there. I imagine his right wing loons would love that.

All that money wasted overseas, is money lost for all the troubles stateside. The 'War' in Afghanistan is unwinnable. You might as well fly transport aircraft across that country, and throw earmarked pallets of wasted $$ across the countryside, for all the value you're going to get.

The L.A. Times confirms that the New Dem warmongers will continue to be the majority. The Progressive Caucus is dead meat:

It’s not unusual for political staffers to seek elected office, but the number of Obama alumni who have entered the field for the 2018 election is notable. In California alone, there are at least four congressional candidates who worked for Obama, as well as several others seeking legislative and statewide posts.

Because they are not as bad as Trump. A Bush political operative comments:

“My guess is most of these folks, the best thing they have going for them is a picture of them and the president [that shows] Barack Obama reasonably knows who I am,” said Galen, a former California GOP operative who worked on both of Bush’s campaigns and in his administration.

The greater advantages, he said, are the relationships forged with donors, leaders, strategists and the alumni network that remains tightly knit after their tenure ends.

Obama New Dems playbook:

“It took me a few months after the election to recalculate how I could best serve,” said Kounalakis, who is one of two Obama alumni running for lieutenant governor. “It [became] clear: It was more important than ever that California lead the way on our values, whether it’s fighting for the climate or supporting and celebrating our immigrant community and our LGBT community.”

Our values do not include opposition to forever wars. Identity politics and climate change will be used to manipulate voters. This is the party of Clinton, Obama, Booker and Harris. Excuse me while I go blow chunks.

if the President gave a nationally televised speech announcing he was ramping up troop levels in a sixteen year old war and spouting nothing but vague promises of Victory! so past their sale date that even sour milk smells good by comparison, the opposition would seize the opportunity to resurrect its sclerotic chances and demand equal time for a response to OPPOSE this deeply unpopular overseas adventure.

Now we know why the Dems wanted to repeal the equal time rule: so nobody expects these lazy, corrupt clowns to actually do their jobs.

@Ellen North

the donors sometimes get nervous if they fake it too well.

A big reason the Dems are in such big trouble is that the donor class is far less tolerant of anything that even smacks of progressive rhetoric than they used to be.

In the past, the money people put up with guys like Bill and Obama throwing rhetorical bones to the masses because they were more secure about their status. Nowadays, they know their position is far more precarious and so they've decided that anything that might at all rile up the mob to get out the pitchforks is not to be tolerated.

That puts the Dems in a big bind because without being able to at least nominally promote progressive initiatives they can't raise grass roots money to regain power, and if they can't regain power they can't raise the really big money from donors.

Catch 22.

The public outrage has gone past the simmer as the frogs begin to boil so that the flesh may be extracted from their bones to be consumed by the pathologically greedy, to leave them nothing, not money, property, health, life or any hope of a future. We Hunger - Siouxsie and the Banshees

Lyrics
a ravenous greed
for a brood to feed
a lusting spawn
on a weekend fawn
do you hunger for this
sucking leaches feel the need
sucking dry unsated stomach pops
sharpened knives with flying sparks
sagging bodies with stretch marks
& your belly aches

do you hunger for this
bled white with avarice

as the rust creeps
corrosion seeps a rotting seed
eat me -- feed me
with your belching foul breath
your destructive kiss death
do you hunger for this

the bliss of a sweet kiss
shanghai'ed on a locust flight
the thirst from a vampire bite
fills the emptiness inside
consuming everything green-eyed
we hunger

Soldier Excited To Take Over Father’s Old Afghanistan Patrol Route

FAYETTEVILLE, NC—Saying he “never could have imagined” he would have the opportunity to follow directly in his father’s footsteps, 19-year-old U.S. Army Pvt. Tyler Corcoran was reportedly excited Tuesday to take over his dad’s old patrol route in Afghanistan. “It’s just so incredible that I’ll soon be walking the very same footpath as my old man, securing the perimeter of Camp Chapman in Khost Province just like he did so many years ago,” said Corcoran, who explained how, throughout his childhood, he had heard his father’s stories of guarding the forward operating base but never once considered that he would one day be traversing along the exact walls and securing the identical checkpoints his father had during his tours of duty. “To think that I’ll be monitoring the road between the airstrip and detention facility that Dad always talked about, keeping an eye out for IEDs and any suspicious activity the same way he did all those years ago. Honestly, it’s hard to believe—but, wow, it’s really happening.” At press time, a tear fell from Corcoran’s eye as he hugged his dad goodbye in the very same manner he remembered his father doing to him when he was a toddler.

Trump Vows To Leave A Better Afghanistan For Nation’s Grandchildren To Fight In

ARLINGTON, VA—Saying the United States owed nothing less to future generations, President Trump vowed during a televised speech Monday night to leave a better Afghanistan for the nation’s grandchildren to fight in. “All our efforts are focused on creating and preserving an Afghanistan that we can be proud to pass down to the men and women in uniform who’ve yet to be born,” said Trump, adding that the administration will work tirelessly to ensure that, decades from now, American troops will be fighting in a more sustainable conflict alongside a restored Afghan National Army. “Rest assured that you will be able to look into your children’s eyes and know that their children and their children’s children will be conducting military operations in a country that’s far more stable than it once was.” Trump went on to say that with the right forward-thinking policy, American soldiers could thrive in Afghanistan indefinitely.
