I had the pleasure of seeing Steve Martin perform live at the Paramount Theater in Oakland. I remember being waaay up in the rafters with my sister and brother. We smoked a "roach" (anyone remember roaches?) and laughed our asses off. But the best part was after the show, as we were exiting he popped out in to the street and performed "live" right there for another 20 minutes or so, it was hilarious and to hear all that laughter outdoors at night was amazing. That was the groove in the Bay Area back in the day, lots of free sharing and love, it was pretty cool. I know it still exists somewhere, keep going.

Uncle Ben's mural at the top of Coit Tower in San Francisco is number 26, and I just recently restored a photo (from crashed hard drive) of it. Nice coincidence.
26.Outdoor Life. Here is a reduced copy of a restored scan of a paper photograph, the color is not accurate. You can see the curve of the tower though, and the dining table sits right over the frame of a doorway, the rest of it is shown in the photo gallery here image 10.
When I think about my uncle painting that mural, hanging around with artists like Hillaire Hiler, Stefano Cusumano, Diego Rivera, I'm like hell yeah! Solidarity. Today (since forever, really) the work gets defaced over and over, and the hatred (call it what you want) toward workers and organized labor is quite profound. Again. I get to think about grandpa and the Mooney/Billings frame-up soon enough. Can't say how much I despise the corruption in San Francisco again, it's a lot. Why make people suffer? I don't know.

Edited: fix spelling add links to give proper artist credit. There's a small Hiler piece over my bed head, it is titled Byzantine Dusk (Twilight) , and there is a large signed drawing to my aunt and uncle from Cusumano 1966. It is a torn bag of spilled walnuts, one of my most favorite pieces. Black pencil I think, on really thin white paper which is starting to disintegrate, but dust to dust that's life.

Most impressive, thanks for posting that.

Your number essays are a trip
For the young folks, when I say "hitch" think Uber with no app, no money, no worries. Just stick out thumb and wait five cars or less. Ride. That used to be my sharing economy, sometimes it took a while to get to five. Thanks.
Memories from the Chef Tom Wells
Bingo, that's how I know Van Morrison songs in my heart even though I never owned one of his albums. Wow I was spoiled by good music early on. Thanks for the free food Tom Wells, I don't remember ever having to pay anything when hungry, and I was hungry all the time. Still going :). The line "Get it myself from the mountain stream" is how I drank all day running around wild in west Marin, ticks and everything. What a blast. Thanks enhydra lutris for hosting my walk down memory lane again.
peace
quick edit: replace no waiting because there was, sometimes.
