Here's How Hillary Can Earn My Vote (and yours)

You know this whole unity campaign the Democrats have rolled out the past few days hasn't gone well so far. It's killing Elizabeth Warren, I hear. People are just a little bit too angry about, well, you know, a certain stolen election, and I don't think that is gonna change by November.

Ah, but I have a solution.

Hillary can earn our votes the old fashioned way: She can pay us. In cash (sorry, but from her I won't accept a check from that woman and I don't take American Express).

We know she's good for it.

Check out all the sources of money she has available to her.

Her campaign: $76 Million

Her SuperPacs:

Priorities USA - $46 Million (with another $46 Million in pledges!)
American Bridge 21st Century - $1,165,414
Correct The Record - $620,977 (David Brock's been a busy boy and spent way too much on internet trolls if you ask me)

Then there's -

The Hillary Victory Fund: Almost $16 Million (and probably more to come)

And last but not least -

The Clinton Foundation! It has - well no one really knows how much, but in 2013 it had assets worth $277 Million, and it took in $223 million in 2015, so I'm guessing a whole damn lot.

Not to mention their own money. Hell, she and Bill could give a few more speeches to Goldman Sachs, or whomever. I hear they do pretty well with that crowd.

And when you're BFFs with Billionaires like Bill and Melinda Gates and George Soros, and the Pritzker family, and foreign governments like the Saudis, and ... well, you can see where I'm heading with this.

Now Bernie has at least 10 million voters, and 7 million contributors. Let's go with 13 million total just to be fair to all the people whose Bernie votes weren't counted. $250 a piece is only going to cost her $3.25 Billion. I think that's doable. And it's all for a good cause! Call it WinProgressivesBack.org, which I'm sure can be organized as a charity, so her donors can write it off on their taxes.

I know, you probably want more. Me too. Okay, what about this. She also has to hire us as campaign staff for the duration of the general campaign, say at another $250 per month. It would be a good investment. I'm sure we could just dominate social media with our Pro-Hillary slogans and bashing Donald Trump posts. Sure, it might seem like a lot to her now, but let's face it, elections these days don't come cheap.

What''s that you say? You're not going to sell out your principles for a mere pittance! Now there you lefties go again, with your snooty moral values and ethics and dogooderism philosophy. It's so damn self-righteous. I hate having a conscience, some days, I really do.

Oh well, it sounded nice for a while. I sure could have used that extra $1,500 or whatever it would have come out to before Election Day. You can buy a lot of legal cannabis products, if you just happen to find yourself in Colorado or Washington (hint, hint), with that kind of moola. Alas, not to be.

On to Plan C!

Anybody got one for her?

Yeah, I didn't think so.

Jerry Brown as Governor Moonbeam was my last. I was at the perfect age for a pol hero and although not old enough to vote worked on his campaign here in Oregon. He was twice the orator and rhetorical master as Obama. I often think that much of the present loyalty to the Dems. by older black people stems from RFK. He was an interesting study in a pol who really did evolve. When younger if I did not like the Dem. on the ballot I would write in Jerry Brown. I supported his primary run against Big Dog.

That generation of Kennedy siblings was raised on owing public service. Most were true to their upbringing, although they certainly could have been idle members of what was then called the "jet set." They did not get rich from holding office or influence peddling or from "charitable" work, such as creating the Special Olympics.

Although JFK did not live to see it become law, he conceived the Civil Right Act. It may be LBJ was able to get it passed despite solid opposition from the Democratic Party's Southern wing and Republican believers in "states rights" and small government only in the emotional aftermath of Kennedy's assassination. (Before he was assassinated, JFK had succeeded in requiring integration of interstate commerce, using, of all things, the Interstate Commerce Commission and, as Attorney General, RFK had made strides as well.) I believe that RFK would have made a great President. Ted did put Party over principle on a number of occasions and certainly had tragic flaws, but he also did a lot of good during his many years as a liberal Senator who knew how to work across the aisle.

I don't see the Kennedys as perfect, but I don't see them in the same category as Bill and Hillary Clinton, either, nor as "trash."

I do not see the Kennedys and the Clintons in the same category either. I have read several books on the Kennedys and there is no comparison. They took public service very seriously and did not try to profit from it. That would have been too gauche for the Kennedys. The Kennedys put a respectable face on the Democratic party and were sincerely concerned about poverty. How long has it been since the Democratic elite talked about poverty?

They were liberals who believed in giving back to the nation by means of public service. Three of them gave their lives to this country: Joe Jr., John, and Robert. They didn't have to work like they did. They were rich people who cared for, and fought for, the poor. Comparing them to the grasping, lying, money-grubbing Clintons is a horrible injustice. JFK didn't even take a salary as President.

The Commenter to which you are replying, Twain Disciple, intended the "rich white trash" label to mostly attach to Joe Kennedy, Senior, only. And he (Joe Sr.) was, in fact, kinda creepy. He openly supported Hitler and Mussolini in the 1920s and 1930s. Most of the cash which got Jack into the Oval Office was made by Joe Senior via what we would call insider stock trading today.

He was a sonofabitch who just happened to be our sonofabitch.

Turning the Democratic Party from an opposition political party to one that accepts and wants many of the the same things Republicans want (and is willing to "compromise" on the balance) was a bigger boon to Republicans and to the 1% than anything the Republicans managed to accomplish on their own. Both Clintons shoulder much of the responsibility for that fateful change. Then again, the Koch brothers did fund the founding and early days of the Democratic Leadership Council and sit on its Executive Committee and other big business proved much of the other early funding of the DLC.

The Clintons' record on New Deal programs, gay rights separation of church and state or social safety nets has not been great, to say the least. We remember DADT and DOMA, which Hillary supported and as to which Bill has since tried to have it every which way. Hillary very publicly opposed equal marriage, not coming out for it publicly until after both Obama and the Supreme Court did.

During the 2016 primary campaign--the one where Democrats feint left--Hillary's position on reproductive rights does not seem to be much broader than existing Supreme Court decisions--24 weeks, unless the health of the mother is an issue--an exception on which Republican Justice O'Connor insisted unfailingly. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Late_termination_of_pregnancy http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2016/03/hillary-clinton-late-term-ab...

When it comes to issues typically associated with the Democratic Party, Hillary is far from a leader. However, she stands firmly on the side of not violating existing decisions of a Supreme Court that has long had a Republican nominated majority. (Cue wild applause and cheers).

The designated Harvard ex Republican spokesperson the Dems. trotted out to show they were not all Wall Street shills. Baloney.

He pegged Rachael Maddow from the the very start of her propagandist blathering. "President Obama just killed a shitload of could be terrorist at a wedding but that's not good enough for the Republicans". In the 90's when I listened daily to NPR he sad why do you listen to this RW station. So what if they carry Garrison Keillor they are RW a right wing station. i use him as a weather vane as he can tell whivh way the wind is b regradless of which side Ror D it's coming from.

Warren is similar to Rachael as they are both fake covers for what is going down. Hey Obama is the master and CEO of this tactic. Why listen to these pols of mass deception they are full of shit and are used to appease the so called left. I sincerely doubt that Wall Street fear Elizabeth Warren any more the they fear The Mad Bomber. The establishment Democratic pols are in no way a threat to the status quo. It's all part of the kabuki show that passes itself off as electoral politics.

On the other side we get fake drivers of pick up trucks pols who hate and rant about anybody who's not a white gun totting asshole who wants to kill Mexicans, Muslims, SA American's fleeing form the hell we create, or anyone with who is not full of hate and fear. And yet what do the Dems offer? The same damn thing. Fuck them all all and the fake partisan horse they ride in on.

Votes have long been bought, either by outright payment or by more subtle means, the latter being sometimes referred to as "campaign promises."

Democratic party bosses were long connected to organized crime, which I doubt was above paying for votes. Community workers have long received, ahem, "walking around money." Employers famously told their employees not to bother to report for work the day after the election unless the employer's candidate won the election. A job is considerably more than a week's salary. Bush the Lesser promised a cash tax rebate if he was elected (and delivered).

So many anti-democratic, corrupt ways to skin that cat--and some are even quite legal.

Thank you for that article. The only part of it to which I cannot relate is that Warren is dying over this. Where was Warren's endorsement of Bernie, when it may have helped him immeasurably? Senator Warren has many fans. I am not a fan type, but I have supported her and very much wanted her to run for President: She may have had a better chance to defeat Hillary than Bernie did. But, she chose not to oppose Hillary Clinton. Importuned by voters and organizations collecting millions to persuade her to run for office, Warren chose not to try to spare her country from a general election campaign between Hillary Clinton and a Republican.

From the day Bernie announced he was running, we all saw what was happening. The DNC, state parties and politicians united against Bernie, media. The DNC tried to usurp the donations from the initial excitement about his run. We saw the delayed Presidential debates, state parties supporting Hillary Clinton and only Hillary Clinton, stolen caucuses and primaries. If we didn't see all that on our own, we read it in political articles by honest observers online and in print. Is the average Sanders supporter really that much more politically perceptive and well read than Senator/Professor Warren, or was she seeing it, too?

The more I saw, the more I donated and volunteered for Sanders. If my opinion meant anything outside my own circle, I would have campaigned for him outside my circle. I did campaign for him with anyone to whom my opinion may have mattered and changed some votes. What did Warren do to prevent the result that is supposedly killing her now?

Like every citizen, Warren is entitled to do as she wishes. But please don't remain even more neutral during a Presidential primary than the President, jump on Hillary's bandwagon like a Olympian pole vaulter immediately after the California primary and before the Convention, and then tell me (or leak) that it's killing you. If you do, trying to have it every which way with your fans and supporters will only make me lose respect.

According to Forbes magazine, the Clintons have made over $230 million. I can remember when I was appalled at Bush & Cheney for their wealth, especially Cheney because of the way he earned his money. After this primary, I will never see the Democratic party the same way. They're on their own, as far as I'm concerned. Here is a link to the Clinton $$:

http://www.forbes.com/sites/danalexander/2015/10/13/how-the-clintons-mad...

BTW, George W. Bush's net worth is $20 million & Dick Cheney's is $90 million. An internet search revealed the Clintons' net worth as $110 million.

up
0 users have voted.

Hillary's 2008 primary disclosure showed a combined net worth of about $110 million; and I assume that was under the loosey goosey disclosure rules Congress sets for itself. Money has a funny way of making money, even if it just sits in the bank overnight.

If the Clintons have not managed to at least double or triple a net worth of $110 million in the past eight years, no one should ever again let either of them get anywhere near the U.S. Treasury. Then again, over eight years one can use money to set up trust funds for family members, to try in various ways to ensure a desired 2016 Presidential nomination, etc. So, maybe their combined net worth still is only $110 million.

Maybe.

I remember reading in another place that the Clinton's net worth was $158 million. I went with the more conservative figure. I do know the Clintons are big spenders, so they may have blown a lot of $$. I remember Hillary's campaign was broke during the 2008 Democratic primary. (She borrowed $$ from herself.) It's probably difficult to get an exact figure of net worth. Whatever it is, it's a lot of $$.

  • doesn't have to work to support a family
  • marries a politically astute man (who might have a bit of a wandering eye)
  • is willing to make her political home wherever she'll get the votes

Hillary says she can get things done, can even work with Republicans, right? And Obama's in her corner? OK, show us how it's done.

Go to Congress as Obama's unofficial representative and pass a $15/hour law (which she finally agreed was a good idea). Now.

Or make college affordable. Now.

Or put that $60 billion clean energy challenge into effect. Now.

Obama will be happy to give her that authority, right? It will happen during his Presidency, thus accrue to his credit, after all.

Just one demonstration of how Congress will happily work with your awesomeness, Hillary. Is that so much to ask?

if she picks Elizabeth Warren as her VP, so when she has to resign in disgrace when faced with impeachment over Clinton Foundation activities, we'll get President Warren.

Warren and, lately, many other "progressives" have destroyed their authenticity by indicating that they will sell out their country. I'd much prefer President Stein to President Warren. I think that with someone as intelligent, forward thinking and authentic as Jill Stein, it might actually be a good thing that she has little real experience in the Washington snake pit. The snake pit really needs a whole new, outside of the box, perspective.

Beware the bullshit factories.

like her. Of course, I like Warren as well. No where near as much since I've seen that she's really got no convictions, no line in the sand that she won't cross over.

All that big anti-Wall Street bullshit. Now she's carrying water for their BFF. I'll never believe another thing she says. I don't believe in all of this "she's evolved" crap.
