Greta Thunberg appears on the Ellen show

I really have no numerical estimate of Ellen DeGeneres' fans, but there are an awful lot of them. So this is a big deal. At any rate, you can see Greta Thunberg's puzzled face in the video, as if to wonder: what kind of society creates people like Ellen?
At any rate, as "Linda Richman" (actually Mike Myers) would say:

When did the moment happen?
I watched, didn't see what you are describing.

Do you think her reaction upon entering the stage at 2:38

I admit to not watching Ellen. EVER,
Sorry, Cass! I have no basis for comparison.

Talking to myself,
I say that my feeling about Greta is that only the serious and significant stuff of life overwhelms her. And even then, she seems to have the capacity to turn those overwhelming feelings into clear, forceful and meaningful directions. She is one amazing individual.
Is Ellen something like a white Oprah?

As I understand her --
Oprah's "self-help" message. Along the way, viewers get to learn that most ordinary people are working their butts off and barely making ends meet if they're even doing that. So it's interesting that Greta Thunberg is now an object of her arranged charity.
-- Ellen mostly wants to repeat the corporate message she's been asked by her charity sponsors to blather and then give money or cars or stuff to people so she can bask in their gratitude. Ellen claims to be about "paying it forward" and "being kind to one another," but of course she has plenty to give away with the backing of corporate America, and she gets to pick and choose who she's going to be kind to. It's more noblesse oblige for a laugh than it'sYou'll notice that there's very little in the way of Greta Thunberg's actual message in this video. There isn't a whole lot of it in the EllenTube page either. You have to dig to find it.

Too bad she doesn’t extend that gratitude

I agree with janis b that Greta is amazinly clear
and outspoken in conveying her message (and also courageously doing it) I just feel a little worried that she is commercialized and used by the media and that she might not see the danger in that for the sake of being effective in spreading her message. Of course she needs to get the Nobel prize, like Obamba needed to get one, right? ... I guess I am just jealous not having been offered the Nobel prize myself. /s
What I said or asked about Ellen and Oprah, forget it. I remember Oprah from the times she was with Dr. Phil. I don't know Ellen at all. Didn't watch both their shows, don't even know since when Ellen had her own show and to be frank, now even thinking about them from far away ... they are just not on my horizon.
I liked Oprah a bit in the very early years ... til someone I was close to watched her behaviour at a European airport and told me about it. Next thing I could not overlook was learning about her refuge estate on Maui. Something is wrong when you need a retreat like that.
I guess I shouldn't have said anything, may be I talked too fast and unfairly.

I did notice a momentary grimace,
but I’m not sure how to interpret it. I employed a handicapped individual who was on the spectrum who was exquisitely sensitive to close eye contact and rapid speaking. Greta struck me as being highly focused on conveying her message. I suspect that pulling a condescending face as commentary on her opinion of Ellen is not even in her repertoire.
I did notice something else that seemed like an effort to obliquely diminish Greta’s message. It may have been an inadvertent clumsy edit of the YouTube clip, but I think it is more likely that it was intentional. Greta calls out the way our society travels, eats, pollutes and consumes. Then Ellen brings up Greta’s Asbergers; her otherness. It’s done with a friendly smile, with apparent compassion, but it’s a very significant way to give the audience a hook to dismiss everything Greta has just brought up if it makes them too uncomfortable.
Greta’s message is powerful, and her focus and determination most remarkable. Her courage is inspirational and her Asbergers a gift that benefits us all.
“ …and when we destroy nature, we diminish our capacity to sense the divine, and understand who God is, and what our own potential is and duties are as human beings.- RFK jr. 8/26/2024
That's how I interpreted it
To me, her facial expressions seemed inwardly generated, as a reflexive response to the environment she found herself in at that moment. Something happened that triggered her. It felt to me almost like a full-body "yikes" went through her.
Then she adjusted and went on, which says a lot about her strength, self-awareness, and self-control.
I could be wrong, but I didn't read it as a studied gesture meant as a statement about Ellen or the audience.

Greta is on the radar of GET OFF MY LAWN! crowd
I noticed the look on her face when she walked onstage. Looked taken aback by the sound of the crowd in a fairly small place. She also likely saw the person who physically signals and directs the crowd to do that on que.
Topic Tangent: My boss, who spends an inordinate amount of time on Facebook at work, was mentioning her more than once per day for a while. He can't stand her, and gleefully takes verbal shots at her. I've asked why he hates clean air, water and earth. He says climate change is a hoax and pollution is a way to help us evolve. I shit you not.
I have surmised that he and his ultra mature (/s) Facebook buddies are members of the youth-hating GET OFF MY LAWN crowd. They take no responsibility for anything done in the name of profit, and fervently support the raping of the planet because USA! USA! USA! and capitalism because scary socialism sucks. While anyone questioning that ideal should sit down and shut up (bunch of Marxist socialist scum), especially the ones who get to inherit the shit heap we're leaving them.
Your boss?
Any chance you could wear a t-shirt to work saying “Greta Thunberg is a saint”?
Boot lickers.
This shit is bananas.
Reminded me of this...
The current working assumption appears to be that our Shroedinger's Cat system is still alive. But what if we all suspect it's not, and the real problem is we just can't bring ourselves to open the box?
