Friendly note from SoCal Gas January 6, 2023

Dear Customer,

There’s no easy way to put this: January bills are likely to be higher than usual. An unprecedented cold snap across the nation in part has caused natural gas market prices in the West to more than double between December and January – much higher than expected. As a result, SoCalGas residential customers can expect the typical January bill likely to be more than double the typical bill last January, assuming the same amount of natural gas is used. Many SoCalGas employees are your neighbors and community members, and we are here to help you best manage your energy consumption, while balancing usage and comfort. To help keep monthly bills as low as possible, we offer tips, tools, and programs designed to assist you in finding what works best for your home or business.

I did not recall the specific number on last year's January bill, but when this bill came due, it was for $512 -- more than double the December tab. It is more than my Social Secirity raise that I am slated to get tomorrow.

I hope Putin got the message that I paid the bill without starting a revolution.

but the cost of propane has doubled and the electric bill has doubled and the cost
of a gallon of heating oil is about $5.00. BTW, there is no cold snap.
Like you, my SS check went up about 8%. That does not cover these spikes in
cost. Not even close. Groceries are beyond 8% and my customers can't afford to
pay. So the game now is screw us, empty all pockets and watch the stock
market rocket upwards. Some crazy shit going down.
