vireo means 'I am green'. Vireos are a group of birds that are superficially similar to warblers, they glean foliage for a living, but are more deliberate in actions. There are I think over a dozen types of vireo found in the U.S.
Bell's Vireo - different subspeces in east and west U.S. may be different species.
White-eyed Vireo - common in eastern half of No. America.
Yellow-throated Vireo - common in eastern half of No. America.
Red-eyed Vireo - a colloquial name for it was preacher bird, because it never shuts up, singing all day long. Once considered the most common forest bird in eastern No. America, at a pair every 2.5 acres or so, but no much reduced, though still fairly common.
Black-capped Vireo is a threatened species, 99% of its breeding range is the Edwards Plateau of central Texas.
