Friday Night Photos Rainy Day Edition
Submitted by Socialprogressive on Fri, 09/09/2022 - 5:00pm
Happy Friday everyone. Please post any photos, memes, or music you like.
When I was young my dad would often say save a little for a rainy day. So following my dads advice I saved photos taken months ago for a time I would need them for FNP. Funny thing is I expected that rainy day would come during the winter and not in the middle of summer. Not that I'm complaining mind you. We need all the rain we can get and it's a nice break from the excessive heat we've had for the last week.

Hi Social
Thank you for the beauty of flowers.
I’d like to add two more flowers and dedicate it to eyo who has been going through a very life challenging time.

Hi, Janis
Thanks for the beautiful flowers and my best wish's to eyo. The sunflower shot by Rehan Shaik is outstanding.

Orchids are such an ethereal composition
Remember my neighbor in Ann Arbor cultivated those alien beasts.
Whenever it rained, would swing by to admire their moods, almost
like they were looking back at me. Some with a frown, some with a wink,
some even smiled! I listened as she spoke with them. Amazing!
Thanks for the flowers in the rain.
question everything
Hi, QMS
Orchids frowning, winking and smiling at you. Trippy. Sounds like some magic shrooms might have been invilved.

Naw, that was my natural state back then
creative in the extreme. Have since mellowed a bit.

From Wyoming
The mountains in the background are just above where we camp. It’s fun watching them get closer.
A close up of the peak on the left above.
Janis posted one of the meadow before, but here’s how it looked in July.

Hi snoopy
Your photos give such a tangible feeling of the warmth and beauty of the approach. The trails in your photos are always reminiscent of reaching a beautiful destination. The meadow in July is stunning with it's emerald green and deep blue skies. Thank you.
I forgot this one
The peak is kinda hidden by the clouds. You can probably tell that I love to take photos with trails in them. And for the reason you said. You can see why Xmas meadows is my favorite spot up there. But there are tons of other places on the road to camp but they are usually more packed with people. Here there are so many spots where it feels like I’m the only one there. Except for all the dune buggies with their Trump flags…

It's just gorgeous snoopy
Aspens are so delicately beautiful. Take me with you in spirit sometime.
I already have
I did think of you last time I was there in the midst of the aspen. I’m excited to go back when they are in their yellow colors. I found this one already turning and I must start taking my real camera to capture the area.
I think the phone limits how I can take photos. This is just to document the change. I have lots of outstanding photos from years past but many are on slides. I’ve been going there for over 30 years.

Thanks snoopy
Take me along anytime. I don't think I'll ever tire of seeing he Aspens.
Hi, Snoopy
Beautiful photos from Wyoming. That looks like a great area to go get away form it all.

Just outside Evanston it’s open country with lots of farms and mansions. I saw one for sale…hmm

I did miss these mountains when I was gone, but I had the Sierra. But not so many peaks. This place feels like home.

Hi pixelators
Hi all, Hey SP! Awesome Orchid photos! What flowers they are... incredible. One never forgets their first orchid show.
Congrats on the rain! Hope it puts out the fires! That Hemet one looks bad. I'm sure birders were out at Pt. Loma seawatching today, and will be tomorrow to see if anything got blown up. Tonight just before dark a guy had 4 Magnificent Frigatebird going north past the Newport Pier. No doubt storm-blown birds. Could get some going back south on coast tomorrow. Maybe some boobies with some luck.
Thanks for the great pix!

Hi dystopian
I don’t know whether to imagine a sign on your door as ‘gone fishing’ or ‘gone birding’ ; ).
It must be exciting for you to connect with the spotting of other birders and fishers.
I spent some time reading about Frigate birds, who I often saw in Hawaii, but knew little about. They are a fascinating bird.
Now who could resist this ...

frigates are awesome!
I may be gone birding, or fishing at any time, other times I am just gone...

wherever you go ; )
Hi, dystopian
With the small amount of annual rain we get any and all is welcome and if it helps put out the fires all the better.

Claretcup Cactus
This is the whole colony
If one moves slowly they may let you approach
With no sudden movements one can stalk them successfully
Gaining an intimate view into their lives
I'll raise my claretcup to Eyo too. Hope she gets better sooner...
Be well all, having a good one is the best revenge...
Thanks for the OT SP!

Nice dystopian
What a sweet gesture to eyo with brilliantly coloured cactus clarets.
Cheers!
Beautiful flowers, dystopian
I'll be sure to approach with caution and make no sudden movements.

Thanks for the orchids SP!
Those photos were like a breath of fresh air I didn't know I needed. We were lucky enough many years ago to be invited by our Thai neighbor to travel to Thailand with them to visit family and go on a month-long tour. That was a life changing trip. One of the places we spent some time at was the Queen's Garden in Northern Thailand. Acres of beauty with orchids growing everywhere naturally, almost like weeds. When we visited, it was slightly misty, even foggy in places, but still warm, tropical but not the high-humid heat. Just absolutely fabulous. So your pics brought back those memories too.
Here in the Willamette valley of Oregon, the winds have shifted and are blowing in from the east. We've been extremely lucky so far this year and have been spared the smoke from wildfires. But today it is all back. Not yet as bad as it has been but the smoke is near hazardous, the sun is a faint orange blob, and ash is starting to fall pretty heavily.
So yeah, those orchids are a blessing. I can feel the mist on my face. Thanks SP, and best to all!
edited to add: and thanks for the Deodato. I had it playing in the background while I was reading through and kind of came out of a trance and thought: damn, that bass player... I went and checked. Yep, Stanley Clarke. Many other top notch musicians on that recording I gather. At this point, I just pat myself on the back for noticing. Cheers.
Hi, peachtree
I'm glad the orchids brought back good memories of your trip to Thailand.
I remember the sun being an orange blob from wildfire smoke and everything being covered in ashes. The fire came close enough that we had to evacuate the neighborhood for three days. Not a fun experience. Thankfully there have been no large wildfires here in the San Diego area so far this year.
